I always had to pop the brakes on my old Paraflite Astrobe (7-cell ~210) to get it to open. It was kinda nice, like a trigger. I also had stay open toggles to help make it easy to grab them. It would be interesting to know an estimated cost of replacing flaps on various rigs that typically get damaged from bad landings. A couple of damaged reserve flaps making a rig less than ten years old not worth fixing gets me thinking about the new Viper H/C that claims to be so easy to do the same. Maybe just some of the flaps on the Viper are really easy to replace, I don't know, but it would be nice to have some incentive to design the rigs easier to fix. Maybe getting this kind of information out to buyers could be something to suggest at the conference? Eloy tomorrow! I think what is being referred to is that the Cypres manual implies that the unit will not complete the self check if the air pressure is not stable. I don't know how long it checks for a stable pressure, but if the plane is not climbing much at the time, it seems plausible. Thanks for sending the info on my trouble to USPA. I did show the clown the TSA letter, but he said that it had been superseded, so what was I to do? I really think he just wanted to do it on his own discretion that is within his authority. We face that discretion/risk every time we go through this, I just would like to make sure that he really was full of shit when he claimed there was a new policy (he said only 2-3 weeks old). I'm not crazy about how much the primary/only riser flaps (they have to be big to work well) on many rigs overlap/cover the reserve container. I don't know of any evidence that would indicate that rigs with secondary covers cause bag spinning problems, do you? The TSA supervisor there tells me that a new std operating procedure (2-3 weeks old) requires (not optional) that unpack it for them. He tells me that the August TSA letter is no longer the latest. Of course I am not allowed to see it. Have I missed this issue in earlier threads? I hope someone has more information about this. Of course this new policy sucks and it will hopefully be revised shortly, but I would like to know whether I should not even try to take it through security at LA and Phoenix this week.
