  1. What is it that the FAA sees as any more like an airline than using twin otters? There are airlines that use otters. 2. These two statements seem to be incompatible. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. I always had to pop the brakes on my old Paraflite Astrobe (7-cell ~210) to get it to open. It was kinda nice, like a trigger. I also had stay open toggles to help make it easy to grab them. Probably 200 jumps doing this. Never a malfunction. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 4. >>How could you better serve the customer? Try marketing a reserve pin that can't be bent by a closing loop (no matter how tight), or bent by leaning against something in the plane/door. If it takes a slightly larger diameter and a super moly-razmatazz alloy - whatever. The cost for the tooling would probably be a lot less than your new 3-ring, or the skyhook, etc. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 6. All the info you need is in the link at the top of the page "Dropzones". One is a tandem factory, one is recently closed. 7. You need to know whether the chute will fit better on the back or is it better to sit on it, or spread out on the back and seat. There is a used seat rig here: http://www.parachuteshop.com/used_pilot_parachutes.htm Also try: http://sl.cometsystems.com/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.softieparachutes.com%2F&qry=pilot+emergency+parachutes&rnk=3&aff=inkt&v=8&origin=asearch&tmpl=0Aen People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 9. Although not a 'swift' by name, the Cirrus reserve might be included as a size option to the original swift. It was about 230 sq.ft. I believe. For the swift plus, they also made a 200 sq.ft. version. I had one before going up to the 225. 10. Iindicated air speed means uncorrected for pressure changes at altitude, or something like that. True air speed - TAS vs IAS. 11. It would be interesting to know an estimated cost of replacing flaps on various rigs that typically get damaged from bad landings. A couple of damaged reserve flaps making a rig less than ten years old not worth fixing gets me thinking about the new Viper H/C that claims to be so easy to do the same. Maybe just some of the flaps on the Viper are really easy to replace, I don't know, but it would be nice to have some incentive to design the rigs easier to fix. Maybe getting this kind of information out to buyers could be something to suggest at the conference? Eloy tomorrow! 12. I think what is being referred to is that the Cypres manual implies that the unit will not complete the self check if the air pressure is not stable. I don't know how long it checks for a stable pressure, but if the plane is not climbing much at the time, it seems plausible. What seems so totally unbelievable is that someone would turn it on in the plane on the way to altitude. 13. Thanks for sending the info on my trouble to USPA. I did show the clown the TSA letter, but he said that it had been superseded, so what was I to do? I really think he just wanted to do it on his own discretion that is within his authority. We face that discretion/risk every time we go through this, I just would like to make sure that he really was full of shit when he claimed there was a new policy (he said only 2-3 weeks old). I wrote the clown's name somewhere, I'll post it when I find it, or when I go back on Sunday I'll confirm his name with the local TSA guys. I really like the way that Tracy Ullman would ridicule airport security guards on her show. 14. Yes, I'm in LA now (so is the rain). I'm headed to Phoenix Friday to see family and jump. Hopefully the bozo TSA supervisor was just full of shit about the new policy. Of course the old policy allowed them to require a full search if they want. I just wanted to know if they were doing it because they suspect me, or if it was really SOP. Maybe he just didn't want to admit that he was 'picking' on me. Cliff People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 15. It is the padding that will crush and absorb the energy and spread out the load that matters. Many fancy, expensive skydiving helmets have very little padding. There have been a few ski helmet threads. These helmets actually have a few different test standards to allow the consumer to gauge their value with regards to safety. 16. Thanks for checking their site. They certainly didn't satisfy their stated policy to see that "all efforts will be made to search without opening the chute". I will print out their web page site on this subject and stuff it in the face of the jerk at Columbus. Well, I would like to do it that way. Has anyone else encountered this bullshit about a new SOP? 17. I'm not crazy about how much the primary/only riser flaps (they have to be big to work well) on many rigs overlap/cover the reserve container. I don't know of any evidence that would indicate that rigs with secondary covers cause bag spinning problems, do you? 19. The TSA supervisor there tells me that a new std operating procedure (2-3 weeks old) requires (not optional) that unpack it for them. He tells me that the August TSA letter is no longer the latest. Of course I am not allowed to see it. Have I missed this issue in earlier threads? I hope someone has more information about this. Of course this new policy sucks and it will hopefully be revised shortly, but I would like to know whether I should not even try to take it through security at LA and Phoenix this week. Having to go back to check in and back again through security is lousy. 24. Perris had a bit in their latest Parachutist ad saying to check for more information on the status of the jet on their website, I couldn't find anything at all. But they are saying that it will be available for some events at Perris and Boogies later this year. So, just how close are they to getting their engines (earlier threads mentioned engine work required?) or whatever other systems troubles fixed? Many of us would like to know more details about the plane, and its condition.
