I like the idea of the entire pouch holding down on the PC, instead of just the mouth. The cordura pouches have to be looser/bigger since they don't stretch, and in my opinion look bulbous/pregnant. Spandura seems like a great way to go. Best of both worlds. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I see from your profile you already have an Infinity (or maybe it's the rental gear you're using). All of the exposed reserve pilot chute rigs can give their owners some grief to keep them pulled down/in place correctly (the riggers also get some grief having to tidy them up, and the owners expect it to be done for free). I think the Wings and the Jav to a lesser extent cover quite a lot of the reserve 'profile' with the main riser covers (main side flaps). I don't like the implications of that for deploying the reserve with the main still in place. Of course they have tested it, and the freebag gets pulled out starting at the top, but it is a negative in my opinion that the Infinity does not share because the secondary riser covers on the reserve side flaps do not require so much of the reserve profile to be covered up by the main flaps. I think the most important thing for comfort is to get measured correctly. I have not jumped anything except an Infinity or its predecessor the Northern Lite II since '88, and I jumped where they are made for 8 years, so I am biased. Of course we know what importance the reserve holds. Do it every week if you want, but stick around for a couple decades or at least a few years before coming to such a firm conclusion that 180 or 360 days is unreasonable. If regulations (TSO spec?) are stopping manufacturers from making a pin that can't be bent even if you were to lean or smash your rig up against a hard corner, or put so much tension on a rig that the closing loop breaks, that is very interesting and should be brought to the front of this discussion. I think you should be able to do abusive things such as this and at least be confident that the pin will not bend. Damn, we sure have low expectations! In my opinion, the bending of a pin should not be possible by having too tight a closing loop. Think about it! Do you really think the strength standard is adequate? I have found a bent (early 90's) while doing a gear check. You simply should not be able to bend a pin by having it too tight, throwing it on the ground, leaning as hard as you can on a door frame, catching a reserve flap on the door, etc. I think the standard should be in the range of hundreds of pounds, not 10 or 15! There is a serious lack of imagination if we dismiss doing something better because of the way pins are currently swaged on the cable. Is it just me? It would appear so. The point is, that there is no safety advantage in 120 vs 180 days. Unless you roll around in the muck, etc. like a student regularly. I think it is true that making the 'mistake' is easier to do with a pro-pack. However, I was very suprised when I managed to get a line-over (made the mistake, wasn't careful) last year with my 20 year old flat-stack pack technique. But I still think you are not as likely to screw-up when stacking. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I posted a poll a while back asking "are 'good-tested' pins good enough?" A very small percentage answered "no". I was quite suprised. Why is it that the main pin is so much more rigid than the reserve? Just because it needed to pass through the small hole of a hard cone 30 years ago! Bullshit! I don't care if it has to be made of composite poly-razmatazz-kryptonite alloy, or just larger in diameter. When Aerodyne makes new 3-ring hardware, etc, I can't believe that the tooling would be prohibitive. Who among us would not pay a small amount more to have the reserve pin that would withstand 100 pounds instead of the wimpy 10-15 now? What mfg. would continue to offer the old pin when such an obvious improvement was available? Sounds like a market opportunity that needs to be filled. Perhaps the demand will only be there when it is actually available, or when someone dies because of it. Is it just me? Being married does change the way that the government treats you in many ways. If this were not true, this debate would not matter as much. You might argue that there SHOULD be an absolute wall between govt and recognition of God, but the separation clause could not have been intended to mean this, given our founders actions/writings of the time. So I contend that the creation of such a wall should not use the separation clause as a justification for this position. A power of attorney would take care of that, correct? That's a pretty bizarre example to argue the case for mother-daughter marriage. Are you ready for father-daughter, father-son, mother-son, mother-daughter, brothers, sisters, and on? I contend that most are not at all ready for that, and if same-sex marriage is OK, then there is no reason to deny the other variations. Sounds like a bit of gear fear, perhaps. Try watching a reserve get packed on one of the student rigs. Nothing like knowing what is inside to add some confidence. I don't think I would ever think of delaying my reserve pull after cutaway, unless I was VERY high, it is just too much of an instinct to "punch - punch". What I would not want to have to remember is that you should disconnect the RSL under some malfunction scenarios. Neverendless question - Wings,Javelin,Javelin Odyssey

Well said, Kelly (without putting down another mfg.) Infinity advertising asserts that your tuck under flap design is not dependant on the closing loop length, and I have found this to be true. The tuck flap is part of, and engages the top flap, so this makes sense. I don't see how some can be so sure that an up-tuck design is more secure. If something rubs against/down your container there is no tab to prevent it from being pulled out of its slot. Only the stiffness and overlap of the tab keeps it in place. I just don't see how it is infinitely more secure (at least compared to an Infinity . Why do you think the main pin cover is more secure? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am -

The first square reserves were available in only one size (small). Round reserves also were effectively smaller than a square main. If you've been doing this a long time, it is likely you started with a 35 foot dia T-10, but the reserve was a 24 foot. If done properly, smooth corners so that lines don't get snagged, there should be no concern. I would consult with the factory and have them do it. Of course the factory might also suggest that they might be able to adjust the main container size by replacing a couple/few flaps. I would think that the H/C mfg would have more of a right to say what links are OK, since the link must work with the riser configuration. What book? Would the FAA care if Aerodyne's recommendation was not followed? I think it quite likely that the rigger has discretion here, at least as shown by FAA action/inaction. I brought this up in a thread 2 years ago, to make sure of whether some riggers would have a problem with reserve slinks on a non-PD reserve. The answers from many riggers was not very certain, but most thought it would be OK. Some compared it to a particular H/C that on a big label stated that only a certain square reserve could be packed within (reserve & H/C were same mfg - imagine that?)
