  1. Yes, yes, yes. Sunpath will probably take some heat for this. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. The Wonderhog was the hot setup back when I started-I'd jump that in a heartbeat. Anyoe wanting nostalgia should get it by jumping old containers, not old - round canopies But, you should consider the realistic amount of money you will pay to a rigger to do a few modifications/updates, do you have a rigger that is capable of doing this? Do the math yourself, I can understand jumping on a limited budget. I started on an original version Sweethog. That thing was crude and ugly compared to an original Wonderhog. Also, this may be a 2-reserve riser setup. You need 4 risers for a sq reserve (a couple of reserves were TSO tested with 2-risers, but you don't want to do it). My local rigger made a set of 14 inch risers to attach to the harness at the L-bar link. The original 2-reserve risers were so short that the toggles were easy to reach. This was such a good way to get 4 risers out of an old rig. It also helped that I jumped where the rigs were made (Northern Lite-now Velocity Sports/Infinity). 7. The military doesn't want to compete with private businesses. C-130's are available for hire, they are not exclusively military, but they are very expensive (about $60 at WFFC). If you operated a air cargo company that could supply such an airplane, you wouldn't like it if the air force was your competition for business. So along comes Thailand, willing to do it for tourism and their air force can consider it part of their normal training flight hours. edit-you know, with the record growing so quickly, that means more slots, more opportunity to be a part of such an attempt! 8. So much of the answer depends on the condition of the canopy and exposure to sun, dust, etc. I have the same PD210 main canopy, it still lands me great-, ~250 jumps on it, it and I weigh 50 pounds more than you. But, it is less forgiving for poor flare technique than more modern canopies, and you should not transition directly from your student gear-do it in steps. Unfortunately, that doesn't go along with goal of jumping your own gear. The value of the canopy could be from nothing to a few hundred dollars. Just figure this into your thinking and you are OK. If the main is not worth much, and you are wise enough to realize it, then you should be able to buy it at an appropriate price and shop separately for a main-it is not so hard to do. Nothing wrong with buying the rig for the container and reserve. There is a lot of gear for sale out there. edit-I'm not a rigger People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 10. A lot has been written about that already. My understanding: There have been changes to fix this available for a while, but don't know who is using what. edit-actually, I wish that I had thought to ask for nickel or stainless for just the harness 3-ring. That is the one that gets really makes a difference, appearance wise. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 12. Do you think they really are still Cad plated? I thought the recycling regs drove the price so high that everything (hardware) started to use an alternative. We sure did when I was designing for Boeing. Cad plated was simply not to be done anymore. What do you think/know? 13. I'm sure I was wrong about what Sherri's newsletter said. It probably did say/imply that there was going to be a limit on participants. It sounds like a great Vacation. 14. I don't think it was invite only. I got an invite just by being on Sherri's list. I don't even think it mentioned specifically any restrictions. I deleted the email, but it sounded as if they were telling people there was still room - to call them. Of course a C-license limit is a reasonable think for a boogie organizer to be able to require, as appropriate. 16. I don't think we need or should want a revolution. Revolution means unpredictability, and that means a worse economy. I have no problem at all with people not voting. It means they are pretty happy the way things are, it seems to me. Bush will win.
  17. That's right, the Terri Gross interview that prompted an apology by the NPR ombudsman, Jeffrey Dvorkin. Of course you loved it, she was not asking questions/interviewing, she was attacking/accusing. If you don't like a guy or his politics, then it seems righteous. I could be wrong, but I don't think Terri Gross apologized. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 18. Who should be embarrassed? I understand that it is irritating for liberals when the Dems are not in power. The best advice I can offer is find a way to get used to it, or learn about conservative principles without using liberal sources for the education. How do you suppose Judge Pickering obtained the highest rating (well qualified) from the American Bar Assoc, the historically liberal organization that is deemed by Democrats to be irreplaceable in screening candidates for the bench? When President Bush endeavored to end the ABA's half-century of de facto control over the nomination process in early 2001, Democrats squealed mightily to preserve it. How do you suppose he was unanimously confirmed to a district court position in 1990, when that congress was Democrat-controlled? The Dem party is so desperate that it has resorted to wielding its blunt demagogic weapons with increasing frequency and wantonness. This is a good time to remember these words: "Every Senator can vote against any nominee. Every Senator has that right... They can vote against them [in] this committee and on the floor. But it is the responsibility of the U.S. Senate to at least bring them to a vote." -- Senator Patrick Leahy, 1997. 19. There are some other reserve handle alternatives. The "small handle" picture shows sticks out much less than a std D-handle, and is still easy to use. The pic was taken before it was installed., that is why the wire is not routed through the housing. I like this handle much better than other alternative triangular metal handles that still stick out as far from the harness. As you can see, I also like being able to grab a handle for the cutaway. 21. Quite right! He did not comply with the agreement that ended the war in '91. For many, including certain professors with disturbing green alien creature avatars, this is not a problem. He was "contained". No more concern needed than was shown for the little Austrian corporal when he defied the limitations of the Treaty of Versailles. 23. The Jalbert Parafoils are usually used for accuracy, because they behave so well in deep brakes. They are usually big (252/300 sq.ft.), but I had the smaller 189 'babyfoil' with the old spider slider - attached with bridal through the canopy to the pilot chute. 25. Speaking as a Honda design engineer that used to do it for Boeing, I can definitely relate to this story - so true! Automotive News article Call it the allegory of the baked potato. This comparison of how different automakers might bake a potato has been making the rounds on the industry's e-mail circuit. In some versions, the second automaker is General Motors. This version came to our attention courtesy of a Ford supplier. How a Honda employee bakes a potato: Preheat new, high-quality oven to 350 F Insert Idaho potato Go do something productive for 45 minutes Check for doneness, then remove perfectly baked potato from oven and serve How a Ford employee bakes a potato: Instruct an Idaho potato supplier to preheat the oven to 350 F Demand that the supplier show you how he turned the dial to reach 350 F, and have him come up with documentation from the oven manufacturer proving that it was calibrated properly Review documentation, then have supplier check the temperature using a sophisticated temperature probe Direct supplier to insert potato and set timer for 45 minutes Have supplier open oven to prove potato has been installed correctly, and request a free study proving that 45 minutes is the ideal time to bake a potato of this size and variability due to orientation within the oven Request a Six Sigma Study showing variable cook times for various potato sizes and orientations Check potato for doneness after 10 minutes Check potato for doneness after 11 minutes Check potato for doneness after 12 minutes Become impatient with supplier (Why is this simple potato taking so long to bake?). Demand status reports every five minutes. Check potato for doneness after 15 minutes. After 35 minutes, conclude that potato is nearing completion. Pass through Gate review reporting all Green status. Congratulate supplier, then update your boss on all the great work you've done, despite having to work with such an uncooperative supplier Remove potato from oven after 40 minutes of baking, as a cost saving without loss of function or quality vs. the original 45-minute baking time. Serve potato Wonder aloud what on earth those Japanese folks are doing over there to make such good, low-cost baked potatoes that people seem to like better than Ford potatoes.
