Did Kittenger really go supersonic?
sundevil777 replied to SkydiveJack's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
If you can prove it wrong, go ahead, but here's the link to the page with the speed of sound vs altitude: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/atmosphere/q0112.shtml People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Did Kittenger really go supersonic?
sundevil777 replied to SkydiveJack's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
It seems so obvious that the speed of sound would be so low at that altitude that he must have broken it at the 500 or 600 mph he was going, right? Not so actually, the speed of sound is faster at 400,000 feet than 40,000: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=555381#555381 People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I left Seattle in July of 1995, before they the Mariners had their first winning season! Eight years of going to the Kingdome and I had to leave before they got it together. Remember when the Seahawks won their division with a .500 season? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. How do i get a rig through the airport?
sundevil777 replied to mach2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sometimes it is not your choice. They can tell you no, they don't care what your TSA papers say and your only recourse it to waste time and miss your flight trying to convince higher ups. The airlines do have large, thick plastic bags to use in case this happens. Precision's Fusion should be considered for a docile 9 cell, and is going for really cheap ($1195 for a 190). http://www.skydivestore.com/english.cgi?&12152005190847 People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Bump... The Ridgeline has won Motor Trend's Truck of the Year Award. The Civic won Car of the Year, first time that a mfg has won both in the same year. http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=462884 http://motortrend.com/features/news/2005/112_news051220_truck_of_the_year/ Please don't pass judgement on it's styling until you've seen it up close. OK, how about just saying that laws can determine what is legal and not legal. Wasn't it true that the mayor in S.F. for a while was granting same sex marriage licenses against state law, with a court later stopping him by ruling that he did not have that authority to change state law? If Californians want to change the law they can. A constitutional amendment could clearly establish it as a right for the whole country, or clearly deny the right. Lawmakers had the wisdom to pass the civil rights act instead of leaving the issue to the courts. It seems that our lawmakers don't have the guts needed/too afraid to actually pass a law concerning such hot button issues, so we have unelected judges in effect passing laws by making rulings on specific cases with specific circumstances. Our legislators should do their job and take the credit or blame for their actions. I was once told to unpack both canopies (Columbus, Ohio). Didn't matter that I had the TSA policy and everything else others have mentioned here with me. They said the TSA policy had been superseded (not true or course). They have the advantage of time, and can allow/disallow what they want. I think he was just bored and looking for someone to inconvenience. This is the only time I've had trouble, but it does show that you should be prepared to check it with the regular baggage if they are dumbasses. Then why are so many gays upset that they can't marry? Just call the governor of your state and get it fixed. Did you mean to type 'not equal'? Do you mean laws cannot bestow rights? The referendums voted on in so many states were attempts to legalize same sex marriage (to make it a 'right' by passing a law specifically allowing it), and they failed. Rights can be from the Bill of Rights, the Consitution (which can be changed by voters and their elected representatives), and by normal laws. I understand that it is frustrating for liberals to be out of power, it was frustrating for conservatives also. Not so. Don't remember the many referendums last November? Those were laws that were being voted on, the people and the legislative branch make laws, the executive enforces, the judicial interprets. If the Supreme Court says no good, then the legislature gets an opportunity to revise the law to pass the courts test. What a bullshit argument. You and BillVon are just sooo clever, change the words everyone will see how enlightened and smart you are and how ignorant the obvious bigot is...it's just like how races weren't allowed to intermarry... Well then, my extension of this argument to include polygamists and others is just as clever and valid. I think gay rights activists don't like these comparisons because, fallacy or not, they know the general public does see them as valid and does not support polygamy or other such marriages. Addressing the current topic is more effective than lousy comparison, but apparently not nearly as much fun than ridicule and labeling anyone not willing to agree to same sex marriage a racist. I understand that you wish it were not a question of law, and therefore not subject to the wishes of voters and their elected representatives, but it is. The people in MANY states have voted and rejected the claimed right for same sex marriage. That can leave some with the conclusion that such voters are just as bigoted as racists of old, but I contend that is bullshit, and also quite intolerant. Also, I would like to thank mdrejhon for rejecting Billvon's assertion that activists are not "flaunting their gayness" and effectively supporting my statement that gay advocates are so far out of the closet that they are waving their arms in the streets": Actually, his post begs the question that I posed about whether the cause for gay rights is better served by less flaunting, or whether the flaunting helped to achieve the advancement of the cause in Canada. HERE HERE, I find them gross... I posted almost exactly the same comment to start this thread, except I used the term revolting. I was then labeled a homophobe, hater, bigot, advocate of ethnic cleansing, etc. A lot of hatred comes from those that think so highly of their own supposed enlightened tolerance. I never advocated stopping anyone. By the definition of a 'phobe offered in this thread (strong bias against...) there are a lot Republicanphobes, consevativephobes, militaryphobes, breederphobes... If someone feels the need to declare their homosexuality with every post, people might assume some things that are unfair to assume. It is not me making the assumption, I'm just asserting that they run that risk of others doing it. I could be completely wrong about that. I never said that anyone is not allowed to declare their sexuality with every post, I only said that I consider it an example of "in your face". There is a difference. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Clearly not! There is a huge difference. I don't think people have the expectation for a family friendly environment at Mardi Gras as they do at Disney. That is the important point here. Is it the intention of the gay days group to force the general public to accept their over the top exhibitionist behavior? It appears so. If not, please help to set it straight, because that seems to be the message. The pics might look like they are taken at a party, but how to know? The hands weren't just on the outside of pants, the were also inside. Don't you think there should be a little more restrictive dress code? Again, the anti-site might be a total fabrication. I would think that gay rights groups would be used to countering the assertions of this group, so it should be easy for you to show such info. Did you see the video from the site? They claim it was a stage show at the park. If Madonna wanted to have a stage show doing similar things to the male dancers she performs with, I would also consider it completely inappropriate. I think that a sig line declaring yourself to be gay is an example of being "in your face". If gays want to advance their desire to be more accepted, then I think they should consider not intentionally segragating/standing out so much. Standing out can take many forms. Heterosexuals are already accepted, so a sig line by a guy declaring "I love boobs" will get less criticism. It may not be fare, but it is reality. If gays want to advance their cause, facing this reality will help, in my opinion. If blacks were wrongly associated by the public with child molestors, then it certainly would be in their best interest to do so. But they are not, so it is not relevant. I clearly admitted that the site is anti gay days. It is not so clearly anti-homosexual as it is clearly anti gay days, and the assumption by gays to be able to behave in the manner depicted. Do you think the behavior shown is appropriate? Again, I can accept that the anti gay days group might be misrepresenting what happens during the event. If so, then help set the record straight. Very few have even been willing to touch on the subject of what happens there. Silence can speak volumes, or something like that. During every gay rights event, they could make their position clear during speeches, for instance. It is an unfair burden for them to have to do so, but their interests are at stake. Freedom of speech is one thing. Enabling and instructing people on how to break the law and be more likely to get away with it is another. If we can't limit freedom of speech in this way, then we are in trouble. Apparently new laws or a constitutional amendment is needed. In recent times, people are very scared of making changes to the constitution, but there have been many amendments during our history. Many things are currently left to judicial decisions that I think should be addressed by amending the constitution, thereby clearly establishing the limits of judicial authority. Probably nothing . My mind doesn't always work logically. It's OK, the masks will fall down.
