Recovery disk program within Win XP home edition?
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in The Bonfire
Seems like everyone is pointing me to the function that is useless if the hard drive is no longer working at all. The last time my hard drive failed, I couldn't even get it to boot in safe mode. The drive is easy/cheap enough to replace, but I lost the stuff I hadn't backed up in a while and it takes a long time to update the system software. Thanks again for your help. Recovery disk program within Win XP home edition?
sundevil777 replied to sundevil777's topic in The Bonfire
The guys at Circuit City showed me the windows program to burn a recovery disk with all the stuff including drivers so that the next time my hard drive dies it will be easy to recover/reload a new hard drive. Starting from the disk with the edition of XP delivered 3 years ago is not so great. Problem is, I can't find this program. Is it maybe something not on the home edition, but on the pro edition? Is it a component of XP that I maybe haven't 'activated'? Is there some shareware or cheap software you can recommend to accomplish this. I've been considering getting an external hard drive, but really just burning copies of my digital pics and a recovery disk with my windows config and essential software is all I really need. Thanks for your help. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. hip & chest articulation on a container, why ????????????
sundevil777 replied to kleggo's topic in Gear and Rigging
Is the Wings container the only one that puts the hip ring in a location where it works? It looks like Wings' claim of their structure being better is correct. sundevil777 replied to kleggo's topic in Gear and Rigging
Some rigs get the exact bend/kink in the main lift web that the hip ring is supposed to prevent. Some rigs have the ring located differently and avoid this apparent contradiction. Here's a pic of BB from McGowan's gallery on this site... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Featured_Photographers/Michael_McGowan/Freestyle&image=2-2%20Tango%206%20Betsy.jpg&img=&tt= edit - pic too small, made link instead. I think the only way to actually judge an increase in comfort would be to get the exact same rig built with and without. It does make it easier to replace certain parts of the harness. I totally agree, but from my experience many people need that lesson, including packers, but I guess the display is apparently tough enough, as I haven't heard of people needing it repaired. How do i get a rig through the airport?
sundevil777 replied to mach2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree that carrying it on is preferred. And you should not have to hide it, but in general I think it is a good idea for your rig to be out of sight and has no disadvantage that I can see. This location is not unique to the V3, I like the placement better than others because the display is not subject to abuse when setting the rig down on the backpad. I don't think the difficulty is worth a complaint. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. My opinion isn't worth anything, but it does seem wide at the shoulders, and the hip rings look low? What is the point of having hip rings when the main lift web will 'bend' anyway? Javelins do this also I think. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I don't see why the airlines would see a distinction. I wouldn't count on them seeing it your way. Why wouldn't it be just like a backpack to them? Perhaps you're more aware of how they interpret this policy, but this is subject to change depending on their mood. I think airlines are in general reluctant to enforce carry on restrictions because they don't want to offend their customers, but in their eyes you can quickly change from someone they don't want to offend into someone they don't give a damn about offending. That's a good idea, and might satisfy an attendant once on the plane, but unless they are willing to put it in the flight deck (locked from the passenger cabin), then you can still get at it during flight, and the attendants know that any wild notions about what you might do with it are still possible. If a passenger complains before you board, security might well demand that you check it, without accepting that alternative. Put yourself in the shoes of security/flight attendant, they just won't care about TSA policy allowing it as a carry on - they will exercise their discretion if some passengers starting getting all worked up about some guy on their flight having a parachute. That's cool, but many people are not able to be so flexible with their travel plans. Also, they might tag you as trouble because you are prone to scaring their passengers. You're probably right about the size of the allowed carry-on, I'm just remembering that the clear plastic size test 'box' that is at the gates seemed really small to me. Does a size wize actually fit under the seat? That is where all carry on bags are supposed to be able to fit. I don't mean to be rude about this, but I just think that you're more likely to draw unwanted attention when you have it out, with no advantage that I can see. I Guess (according to some) Clinton Would Have Lied Too?
sundevil777 replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
It's not about lying, it is about being wrong, and not being able to show what was done with them. However, I don't think Clinton or Gore would have liberated Iraq or Afghanistan. I think they would have shot a few cruise missles and declared that good enough. SH was actively supporting terrorism. To not put your rig in a bag is asking for trouble, in my opinion. It might be fun to get some questions, but it only takes one passenger that gets nervous, and tells an attendant of this for you to be forced to put it down below. Do you want baggage handlers throwing it around without it being in a bag? Do you want someone's busted bottle of who-knows-what dripping on it? Not many rigs will fit in the 'box' that all carry on is supposed to fit. Airlines are reluctant to enforce this rule, but they can at any time. You also cannot be sure there will be room in the overhead bins. The closer you are to the plane, the less likely you are to be able to get one of the airline's big clear plastic bags to put your rig in. TAS (true air speed) vs SAS (skydiver air speed) is explained in the protrack manual available on line, page 25: http://www.l-and-b.dk/pdf/english_protrack.pdf It is a way of 'standardizing' fall rates so that the numbers that a guy jumping in Denver can be directly compared to those jumping at a sea level DZ without need for compensation. I had the swoop cords added to my Tony model suit, but haven't needed them. Still good to have available if money is not an issue. The heavy cotton fabric and double layer arms are for you, I think. I also have the booties and knees made of cordura, the really heavy stiff fabrics have more drag. You don't want to have others needing to adjust to your slightly faster fallrate. You will not fly well if you are near either end of your range, much better to be near the middle. Small groups can adjust without too much bother, but that won't work well with larger groups. Sorry, it seems like there were a lot of crashes not related to enemy fire, and I also remember the serious issues the transmissions had with metal particle contamination, I think, a long time ago. My perception being wrong on their reliability is obviously a good thing. Wasn't Geraldo Rivera in one that had to make a hard landing? I think that was after some damage from enemy fire. Optimal for team stuff will not be so great for the common larger loads or even small groups with the ordinary fall rate jumpers. Teams tend to want fast fall rates. A fall rate of 112-118 mph SAS (not TAS) from my protrack is typical for the experienced RW groups that I have jumped with lately. Skybytch's suggestion that you look at your new suit to provide a different fallrate than your current suit is good advise. The guys at Tony may actually suggest the Tony suit which is even slower than the swoop model. If you go with the Tony model, ask for the leg grips to be like the swoop/pit special, and not the stupid S shape that is std on the Tony model. Always get inseam leg grips, and the double layered arms are effective at slowing the fall rate. LLS is bad, but when there is a lot of traffic, too many assholes expect that they should not be slowed down. They are special, they want to pass. Too bad. This means that sometimes all the lanes are needed so that the freeway can move as many cars as possible in total. Some people think that everyone in front of them should move over, because they want to pass, as if everyone else in front of them does not also want to go faster. I realize this does not apply to everyone, but it does apply to many. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. It would be helpful if you would confirm exactly what you mean. Is it pumping during the last bit of flight right near the ground, or a flare executed up high, then a surge to full flight before the actual landing flare? I can't find a pic of the Wings low profile handle. Is it a triangular type shape, or same as mine or what? Does it fit in the std D-ring pocket?
