I think one of the cats figured out how to get the door on the wire hampster cage open by pushing down on the handle of the door. I don't know if it was by accident or intelligence, but the door kept opening mysteriously and the rodents didn't last long. That was fine by me, I never really did want them. As I mentioned in a separate thread, I've never had a brake fire prematurely, even though I put 1000 jumps on old style toggles with no nose hood, only velcro to hold it down and no riser covers. I've also never had narrow risers that allow a slider to go sliding at high speed over the toggles. So, now that I think of it, that sure seems like a likely cause of at least some or many of these brake fires. The slider going over it must surely be able to put some downward pressure on the toggle, just like unstowing it. It is all a matter of how much force the slider can apply, which would depend on the shape/position of the toggle, size of grommet. Perhaps I am jumping to conclusions. Any thoughts? To get rid of this, you don't have to scrap capitalism all together, just the current system that allows anyone to own and sell a tiny share of a company at any time. What is your idea of capitalism? Are you advocating laws that would prevent management from cutting jobs if they make bad decisions, maybe a law that would fire management instead? In a capitalist system, management is free to make bad decisions, and the lower level workers will suffer, that is true. If you can think of a system that prevents that, I don't think it will be capitalist. The job of the low level worker is usually to make results for the company now, the job of the higher level worker is usually to make results possible for the company in the future. Both sides are free to fail at their job. This probably sounds surprising coming from a conservative, but I would support laws that would moderate the short term thinking that is so common within the management of publicly held companies. I think this short term thinking is a result of the very fast 'turnover' in the stock ownership of many companies. As mentioned before, riggers are specifically allowed by the FAA to determine compatibility of components. Even if the PD reserve was TSO'd with slinks, and other reserves were not, PD does not try to tell you that only a certain mfg, size, and material of metal link is allowed to be used - it is up to the rigger to determine compatibility, and PD slinks are approved for use on reserves. The only thing that I was slightly concerned with is, what if a rigger in the future refuses to repack a rig because he wants to comply with PD's 'advise' to only use them with their reserves? That would be a big hassle, but I think not at all likely to happen.
