  1. You didn't have a malfunction if you were able to get out of the line twists. I understand that you were spinning after you stopped tracking, but exactly what was the problem during the track? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. Wrong. It can be argued that it wasn't worth invading Iraq. To say we had no right to invade is absolutely not true. SH did not comply with the terms of the agreement that ended the '91 war. SH didn't even negotiate the terms of that agreement, they were imposed upon him because he lost the war. Sanctions were imposed upon Iraq shortly after the war to persuade SH to comply, but only resulted in great suffering of the general population. I think we should have either attacked Iraq again to impose the terms of the agreement, or just admit that we weren't going to hold SH to it at all. Which would you choose? Back to this thread's subject - I don't think it happened. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 3. Would you agree that it isn't a good idea to be so retro to use pack opening bands? I remember the hook ends on them having a reputation for snagging pilot chutes. Perhaps the hook ends were modified/covered on the original poster's rig so they wouldn't be a snag problem. 4. Have you watched the Special Report with Brit Hume? I think it does a good job of mixing straight news, some politically oriented news, extended interviews/extended news stories, and 2 long sets of panel discussions in each day's hour long show.. They have Mara Liasson and Juan Williams of NPR/PBS to represent the liberal position. 5. In the grey world, Iraq has to answer for its involvement in the war against Israel. errrrr...I think you have your countries transversed Perhaps SH's direct sponsorship (payments) to the families of terrorists is the point. 6. Plenty of planes can carry 50 tons. When one of the truckers was loading up a really large diameter drum, another guy mentioned that it was too big to bring in by plane. I'm guessing that during the summer, planes take in cargo. In the winter, the trucks. 7. You presume that making nice is sure to provide better diplomatic results. I say bullshit. Having a Jew as president would scare the shit out of the Arab world, and that might help a great deal. Diplomatic negotiations from a position of weakness have been shown to give poor results. Of course! Islamic culture seems to be quite overtly sexist. Do you think Golda Meir (prime minister of Israel from '69 to '74) experienced probllems with muslim leaders? I say it might be very constructive for the muslim leaders to forced out of their comfort zone, to be forced into the position of being told what they must do by a person they would normally never respect. 8. Your poll answers are too limiting. Whether it would piss off Arab leaders and whether that should matter are different issues. I think Arab leaders would have a problem with it, but they need a push toward peace. A president sympathetic to the Arab position against Israel would not help the chances for peace. 9. Quite right! Some DZs actually fly NEW airplanes! Who would have thought that would be possible? The PAC and Kodiak look like natural competitors for that DZ that makes the big investment for a NEW plane. It is hard to say how much a Kodiak would cost if it came with a more basic set of instruments/displays as the PAC is equipped. It is really terrific that it can be a viable operating-cost driven choice compared to planes built in the '60s. New airplanes with one engine are competitive with a used twin engine! . 15 jumper single engine turbine tricycle gear designed for rough unpaved runways, high wing and tail, it sounds good to me. I don't expect airplanes to be designed from the ground up for skydiving. I expect them to be adaptations of designs that fit a larger market. The Kodiak and PAC have close to the same number of jumpers. Probably 15-17 for Kodiak, PAC has 17 seat belts. Looks like the cabin size is at least as tall and wide as the PAC, and the door might be bigger. Everything else being equal, the high wing and tail is better. A lot of traditional jump planes have a low tail, such as DC3, Beech 18, king air and even the C182, but given a choice, higher is better. Anyway, I think it looks great for a jump operation. From earlier posts in this thread, a couple DZs are already planning on getting a Kodiak, so we'll see how that goes. 10. The Kodiak has now been certified. It is nice to see another viable single engine turbine that is better for us than the PAC. It has a higher tail and bigger door than the PAC. Shorter takeoff, better for rough fields and better climb than the Caravan. http://www.aero-news.net/index.cfm People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 11. I have about 60 round jumps, 2 round reserve rides, 2 square rides. Back in the day, people pretty much never stopped jumping in brisk winds just because they had a round reserve. I think that would be the same now, if we still used them. We knew it would be a bad situation if we needed to use them in such winds, but just put up with the risk. I sure was glad when I had my last 2 reserve rides on squares. The first was in Seattle, I doubt I could have avoided the trees and made the clearing under a round. The second was at Eloy, again with a fair amount of wind. I landed off the DZ, and the desert out there is fairly dense with nasty vegetation that is no fun to play with. 14. Do you honestly believe - even just a little - that over 50% of Congress actually wants the US to lose the war (however you define that)? You really think that the Democratic party wants American servicemen and women to die? If you are buying into the punchlines and rhetoric of right wing radio so much that you actually believe the Democratic party has a platform that amounts to treason, how is it even possible to have a remotely rational conversation with you? Close, but not exactly. They want the deaths of our military servicemen to stop. They are willing to achieve that by losing the war at any cost. 15. The simplicity of an SOS is attractive, but I've never been able to understand why it is on the left side. I would think that later retraining would be easier if the SOS handle was on the right, so that the students instinct to go to the cutaway first instead of the reserve handle side is still there. 16. What a load of bullshit. If you want to lay claim for the position that the world would be better off with SH in power, that territory is all yours. You ignore reliable reports of their infrastructure not being maintained/repaired properly for decades. For instance, they had electricity, but not nearly all day long. You are a conspiracy theorist, I don't care that you don't care. It does give one very good reason to not trust anything else you claim to be true. We were also allies of Stalin. Strange bedfellows and such, you know. Certainly not something new. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 17. Your instructor should have not said anything to you about the missing handle. No need to give you that information, he should have just had it fixed without you knowing about it at all. When I started, we used military surplus (gut gear) student rigs, while watching the experienced guys go up with modern rigs. You really had to want to jump to put that shit on your back, so consider yourself lucky. I've been waiting for pushback from the gate in an airliner, when the captain will get on the intercom saying that this or that is wrong, and we will have to get it fixed, blah, blah. I think they're stupid for giving too much detailed information - telling exactly what bit of equipment/system is on the blink. Just tell us that something really trivial needs to be checked and we'll be on our way in a minute. No need for passengers to have so much detail to worry about. 19. I should have made it clear that my jet jump wasn't really the first WFFC jet load, it was the first jet load of the '06 WFFC . I was about the 10th person out, so it was still easy for people to exit very quickly after each other. The spot was good. 20. Hello Harry, I don't know if you'll remember me, but do you remember the attached jump/pic from Kapowsin? I'm at the four o'clock position, with Jesse Farrington trying to take off my shoe. It was great how we got everyone to look at the same time, makes for a great pic. 21. That was definitely NOT my experience on the first WFFC jet load. Way too close for comfort. The plane goes 50% faster on jump run than normal, but if people follow each other as quickly as possible (as instructed by the jet's staff), it more than cancels out the extra separation provided by the additional air speed. 22. Good metaphor, I mean really nasty metaphor You test it by doing what you did and checking to see if it does what it did No, you have to replace it. It could be a lot worse. If you know enough to bleed brakes, you can probably do it yourself if you get a good manual and have the right tools. Some auto part shops nowadays will loan many special tools if they are needed. You might as well do a complete flush of all the brake fluid from the system. 24. In order to make your old rig compatible for a square reserve, check out this thread for info on how to add an extra reserve riser. You'll also need a freebag made for your rig. The mfg might be willing to do it. I got the original mfg of my rig to make it for me. I converted my Northern Lite II container about 17 years ago. So, it is possible. It will probably cost you at least $250, you'll still have trouble finding riggers willing to pack it, and you can probably find a newer rig for about that much. You'd really have to be in love with your rig to make it worthwhile. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Then & Than

Really? It never even occurred to me that anyone should actually have difficulty remembering the correct usage of the terms. Do you have similar troubles with 'of' and 'have'? BTW Zep, your OP is still incorrect, it is not 'labotomy' - think about it, they remove a lobe not a lab. Quite right, I never thought it would be something needing a 'device' to remember. Of course most of us mere mortals will commit some spelling errors or grammatical mistakes, but to mistake then and than is weird. I suppose it is, as you suggest, like 'of' and 'have' - that when spoken quickly/sloppily it sounds like the other, but I can't understand repeating it back that way when writing.
