... or, How anybody can even begin to bring up charging Bush and Cheney on war crimes without including Pelosi is incomprehensible. It is the inconsistency we want to highlight and celebrate! Why is that so hard to understand? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Actually the analogy is a bit harsh. Perhaps instead of crashing and killing a family of 4, the kid just gets caught driving under the influence. It is a very good analogy, and I'm not a fan of analogies. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. What is the most common cause for malfunctions?

An important point nobody has mentioned so far is to untwist your steering lines regularly. Many people don't do this often or at all. Convenience. And saves $$$ on a gear bag. Seems kinda silly to me to buy a bag for something that was designed to fit over your shoulders already. Kinda like a backpack for a backpack or something. But that's me. -
TSA & traveling with rigs as carry on
sundevil777 replied to rjackson's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Tried that, and the TSA idiot told me the letter I produced that should be in their manual had been superseded (lying of course). I think carrying a rig on with no gear bag is asking for trouble. I know many do it without incident, but it only takes one nervous whuffo to express their fear to security and not only might you be forced to check it, but it could easily cause trouble for us long term (a real revocation of the current guidelines). What would you use when they someday make you check it (it is always their decision if they want to do it, no matter what the manual says is standard procedure)? You will really wish you had your own gear bag instead of the clear plastic bag they'll give you (think baggage handlers wanting to check out the cool backpack). Why is it important to have the rig out in the open for all to see? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. PDF - and their shit attitude to sports skydivers
sundevil777 replied to crashtested's topic in Gear and Rigging
Do they sell so much to military customers that they can afford to keep such a long lead time to private customers? Perhaps they have a long term contract that will keep their shop at a steady pace for so many years. If that is the case, perhaps they should just close their doors to civilian customers as ParaFlite did. Wisconsin court upholds GPS tracking by police
sundevil777 replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
I think this is a correct legal interpretation, but I don't like it. I think it is proper for the court to base their opinion on the law, it is appropriate for the legislature to give the courts a different law for them to interpret. That is the way it is supposed to work. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. The sentinels I used as a student looked like they'd been used as hammers and drug behind a car through the desert. I trusted them so little that by my 5th jump or so I would disconnect the wire to the handle when the jumpmaster wasn't looking. I would also disconnect the Steven's line when he wasn't looking (didn't want that huge metal handle smacking me in the face). The sentinel save I witnessed was with the type where you had calibrate by pulling out the wheel, turn one direction, then the other, etc. It was likely very reliable, but perhaps vulnerable to inaccuracy due to the method of calibrating. The only AAD fire I've witnessed was in the early '80s, when a guy had a streamer on a T-10 and did nothing. The old sentinel fired his belly reserve and saved his ass. He may have been falling too slow to be saved by a modern AAD (except maybe in student mode) - don't know what the parameters of the sentinel were. My primary point is that I think it a poor choice for someone to want a swoop mode AAD because they will want to swoop years from now. Even if you're swooping now, very few are able to go that fast, so I don't think it is worth taking away its ability to possibly save someone that doesn't cut away from a high speed mal (assuming that they are falling too slow to trigger a swoop mode version). I agree that not firing when it is confused (pressurized scenarios) is good, but the situation I'm talking about should not be "confusing" to the AAD. Very few are able to reach the speeds needed to activate the cypres while swooping. I would rather that an AAD be more likely to activate during a scenario of high speed partial malfunction, where the jumper hasn't cut away yet. If they ride a fast mal down that far, they likely have lost track of altitude and need the AAD to save them (even if the main is still there - you have to hope it works, not enough time left to wait any more). If you have an AAD in swoop mode, you risk not going fast enough to trigger it, but plenty fast enough to die. Just my opinion, that most swoopers would be much better served without a swoop mode AAD (at least in the way cypres does it). Ah yes, to pillow or not to pillow, that is the question... (often asked). I do not pillow for either the cutaway or reserve, and I like the low profile metal reserve handle shown in the attachment. I got mine through Velocity Sports (Infinity), I like it much better than other triangular shaped alternative handles that I have seen. It has been shown that it is possible to hold onto a pillow with a great deal of force, but I think that finding might not be so true if the pillow must be grabbed and force applied very quickly. When I need to grab a handle fast and be able to pull hard, I want something that allows me to grab it using that wonderful invention, the OPPOSABLE THUMB. It sure was extremely easy to pull both of these on my last mal. I have used cutaway pillows before, I just really like a loop. Below is a letter that has been posted many times before, I repeat it again here because I think it is valuable: From: Rick Horn Subject: 5000+ jumps, saved by RSL Date: 1997/00/03 I got saved by,a backup device (RSL) on Thursday. August 28th. I thought I’d relay the formation My background: 5000+ jumps, 107 cutaways, (No I don’t need to learn how to back, a lot of test jumps and films.) About 20 unplanned cutaways. 21 years jumping, AFF I/E, static Line I/E, Full time instructor at Perris, AFF Course Director for USPA. Equipment Background: Rig- Javelin, Articulated harness (Rings top and bottom), RSL and Cypres equipped. Soft Reserve pillow, Main, Stiletto 135. Reserve- PDI43R, I wear my leg straps and chest strap quite tight. The jump: A great APP Level 4, the student did well, I watched deployment on the student’s canopy, and hung around to give a thumbs up forte camera. This put everything happening a little lower than usual, so I threw the main out at about 2100, as opposed to the usual 2500 since I’ve gotten older and hopefully wiser. The main opened into a severe spin. There were no line twists, but I don’t know what caused the spin, as I could not see the left side of the canopy. After the usual playing around with It, I decided to get rid of it. My procedures are grab cutaway, grab reserve, pud cutaway, pull reserve. I went for the cutaway handle, and to my surprise, it was on the LEFT side of my chest I grabbed it, and reached for the reserve handle. It was somewhere under my left armpit I could only touch it with my thumb, and not grab it. My theory is that a combination of the severe spin and the articulated harness allowed the handles to move so far. I had also practiced hooking my thumb between the reserve pillow and the housing. I was unable to do it. I then pulled the cutaway handle, as I was not accomplishing anything in my attempt to find the reserve handle. After pulling the cutaway, I continued to search for the reserve pillow. I was unable to find it. I theorize that it tucked under the main lift web as the harness slid back into position That theory took a couple of days to figure out. Being honest, I have my sincere doubts that I would have found the handle within the 6 seconds of working time that I had left. My ML prevented me from knowing the answer. I have since modified my rig to include a standard ripcord on the reserve. This should also serve as a reminder that backup devices, whether they be ML or AAD can save your life, no matter what your experience. Please don’t make this into a debate thread, there have been enough. I just wanted to share the experience, so people could make informed decisions. There are plenty of people with serious medical conditions that are absolutely known to be passed on to their children. The probability of passing on many conditions is higher than the probability that there will be an in-breeding problem from blood relative parents, especially if both parents have the same genetic condition. You say "...likely to have problems, therefore we can prohibit it." All we really do is prohibit their marriage, that doesn't do anything to prevent them having children. That slight difficulty shouldn't stop the drive to remove the bigotry. It is just a matter of figuring a reasonable set of laws to control the benefits while being married, and what should happen with divorce. If the desire to prevent bad genetic conditions is all that is making blood-relative marriage illegal, then there should be a LOT of other people that should face similar restrictions. If a friend of yours came up to you and admitted they were gay, you're supposed to be accepting and supportive. If that same friend admitted that their gay lover is their brother/sister, then you should also be accepting and supportive, correct? I think that polygamy has such a bad reputation is that so many of them victimize young girls. The age of consent and how that is used by polygamists is a separate issue from polygamy, in my opinion, and should be dealt with separately, perhaps polygamist marriages should require the girl to be over 18 without exception. Of course it is more likely that children will have problems, but we allow people that will most definitely be passing on genetic problems to get married and have children, and just because blood relatives aren't married doesn't prevent them from making kids together. Some blood relative couples can't make kids, shouldn't there be an exception for them? If yes, then we should all admit that we'd face the fact of having to be accepting of those relationships, for if 2 brothers (or any other now - taboo combination you could think of) want to get married, then nobody should think it is wrong, isn't that correct? Survey: Church-goers more likely to support torture
sundevil777 replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Criminals just want to get money or something like that. The ENEMY we now face wants our society to collapse. Quite different, I think. Even Obama doesn't treat them like criminals, and doesn't think the constitution applies to them. If he did, he could transfer all the Gitmo prisoners to some federal prison and put them on trial in regular federal court. But of course he can't, and he doesn't. If regular rules of evidence were imposed on them, they would most likely go free. He did agree that it wasn't torture. THAT is NOT the same thing. Armed robbery is not murder, but it still shouldn't be allowed. Now you're competing with Billvon for crappy analogies. He said: Perhaps I'm wrong in assuming that it means he thinks it should be allowed, so be it, but I think it is reasonable. Do you think those things should be allowed? That is the politically correct thing to say. Even Obama was just left with saying that we may have obtained the info without the enhanced interrogation techniques. Seems like the police are successful in getting confessions and info from suspects with the techniques. Shouldn't the CIA/military be able to do the same?
