  1. You haven't addressed my question about how fast the buildings should have fallen, but I will address this question of yours (similarity to controlled demolitions). You say because it looks so similar, that the conclusion it was a controlled demolition (CD) is reasonable. I say that in order to make that conclusion, you should have examples of collapses that even you would accept as not a CD. How many examples of high rise collapses have you witnessed that you would accept were not a CD (of course not including the WTC)? Because all that you have to compare against is when they are a CD, then how do you know what the WTC collapse should have looked like? You have nothing to compare it to, so your conclusion is without justification, similar to the fact that you don't know how much the collapse should have been slowed by the floors below the level of failure. You got nothing. You make seat-of-your-pants engineering judgements that are worthless. I have a mechanical engineering degree, designed cars and airplanes for 18 years. That doesn't make me a civil engineering expert, but it sure makes me more likely to spot bullshit when I see it than the average person, especially compared to you. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. Yes, the lower floors did provide some resistance. Exactly how much do your "experts" think it should have slowed the collapse? So, it collapsed at NEAR freefall speeds, but how far away from a freefall should it have been, by ANALYSIS? At first, the conspiracy theorists were claiming that the collapse was actually FASTER than freefall speeds (somehow the intentional demolition had increased the effect of gravity - very cool by the way...) I will guess that they don't have an answer. That is so much more troublesome than just making the seat-of-the-pants expert engineering judgment that it didn't get slowed enough. Perhaps you think the collapse would hesitate for a half second or so at each floor? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. Last I heard, Congress gets to approve Bills, not AARP. What part of "Obama said AARP was on board - AARP says they're not" (paraphrased) was it that tripped you up? He's just avoiding having to address the actual point of the lie. Changing the subject/deflection is a normal reaction when libs don't want to admit their lib president lied. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  4. Indeed, lots of people are too stupid to see through LIES. However, we disagree on from where many of the lies are coming. Perhaps some claims about the bill are untrue, but without even referencing them in passing, you got nothing. Obama asks us to trust him (as do you in claiming that it is a bunch a lies), but for good reason his credibility is diminishing. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  5. It wasn't JUST that Obama made it clear that he thought a single payer system would be even better, he made it clear that it was his goal. But Obama now denies it, dismisses it as irrelevant to bring up his previous, multiple statements of his intentions. Just last night on Hardball an NBC news guy emphatically denied the president had ever said anything like that. Obama is a huge liar, his admin officials are sent out to lie for him, and many in the media are willing to lie for him. No conspiracy from conservatives there, just telling the very inconvenient (to libs) truth. I don't know of any claiming it will become a single payer BILL, but it is very reasonable to make the conclusion that the provisions of the bill will have the result, over time, of a single payer system. That shouldn't be a surprise, it was the stated desire of Obama to achieve exactly that. He stated that he would rather do it directly, without the wait. 6. The cheapo orange plastic knife has been known for a long time to be junk. However, it doesn't have to be a metal knife, there are plastic models that are very good. This plastic knife is great, light, and not expensive (I have one): http://www.square1.com/...inchPlastichookknife Also, there is good reason to think that 2-bladed designs such as the Jack-the-Ripper knife are vulnerable to lines getting wedged between the blades instead of being cut cleanly. 7. I think executive bonuses, and salaries, are ridiculous because the members of the board of directors want to keep them high - so they can get in on it. There is apparently no accountability for the BOD, so what to do about it? I don't want regulation to do it. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  8. No, it is not equivalent. They are very different. I am certain you can see the difference, you must just not want to admit it. Anyway, it isn't what conservatives are doing anyway. No, yelling about kids being killed was what libs were saying about conservatives many years ago. Don't you remember? I never said that was explicitly in the bill. It would be the likely result if enacted. Obama admitted that it wouldn't be possible to get a single payer system right away, it would take a while to get there. He is a huge liar. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  9. The use of that term, "needless war" is interesting. What war would you say has been necessary? I think there have been some that have been justified, and moral, but none that have been necessary. 10. Why isn't it possible that not changing anything is better than a proposal another would enact. That isn't even the current state of the opposition, but still is a valid position to take. To tell those taking that position they should get out of the way is really crappy. Dissent was said by libs to be the highest form of patriotism, or something like that - but of course things don't work in both directions for libs. Obama is making a completely bold faced lie! (and sent out his officials to lie on his behalf) He has said many times, including very recently) that he is a proponent of a single payer system, just that it won't be possible right away. He now claims that is not his intention. That is just the beginning of the lies. Why can't you bring yourself to criticize Obama? Even if you do support his real, often clearly stated intentions - he should be pursuing his goals honestly instead of doing it in this manner. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  11. That is an incredibly crappy position. It assumes that any proposal is trying to solve a real problem, and that everyone should be in agreement to what the problems are. It is not surprising that Obama would make the statement that started this thread. What is sad is that so few have critisized him for it. Blind support and all... People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  12. That you think there are no solutions being offered by the opposition just shows you are a denier or that perhaps your sources of information are shielding you from it. Obama and congressional dems have been lying about what is in the bill from the start. They have been exposed by those that have taken the trouble to read the details of the proposal. Not having a counter proposal never stopped the dems from opposing republican led bills. Obama is clearly the one that is moving toward paranoia. Didn't take him long to fall apart into a heap of whining crap. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  13. I heard him say it, don't need a website to confirm this one. So, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, and other dems that contributed to creating the mess should shut up! Obama is falling apart. His supporters will not want to acknowledge it, but this is a sign of getting pissed off at being challenged. He is really cracking up, no way to hide it. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  14. For your conspiracy to be true, not only would Bush and his people have been in on it, but his adversaries also. Do you believe they would be willing to do this? Perhaps only rep Jackson-Lee (I think) of Texas has said she thinks it was an inside job. You complain about us not addressing points that you make. I think it is completely the other way around - you ignore those that refute your arguments. Many, many of the points you make have been refuted, but instead of continuing a discussion of those particular points, you go on to others, there is always another, and another. So many of the allegations made have been shown to be laughably bogus, that it should make a reasonable person doubt the integrity of the sources concerning all their other assertions, but not to you, no way, you are just as likely to believe what they are telling you. I however, refuse devote any effort to even checking out the latest claim from the bullshiters, can you understand that attitude? I have a mechanical engineering degree. It doesn't make me an expert in civil engineering, but it sure as hell does make me more able than you to identify bullshit in this case. It is relatively easy for those without such training to fooled by the bullshit. For those experts you cite, of course they should know better, I must conclude their desire for a conspiracy to be true is stronger than anything else. So, either you also have a desire to believe that is stronger than anything else, or you like being an irritant. Either way, I don't care anymore. Even this post is more effort than you're worth, perhaps it is just an interest in the study of human behavior that even gets me to continue reading this thread. 15. I'm going to report that what I'm told by certain dem leaders in congress is "fishy", since they are lying about what is in the bill from the house. I'll also report on Obama for being "fishy", and a few news sources that also haven't been telling the truth. Perhaps including attachments of the bill itself is appropriate. 16. ...inherited a huge deficit ...that he has made worse. ...inherited a recession ...that he has made worse. ...inherited two wars ...one of which can now be considered quite successful, however Obama dare not do that, because that would acknowledge that credit goes to the previous administration. Obama's policy would not have led to this good result, and he dare not draw public attention to that fact. 17. I've found instructions on how to enter "service" mode and adjust the convergance. http://www.agoraquest.com/viewtopic.php?topic=4360&forum=25&keyword2=electronics It is really a weird set of steps you have to do to get it into service mode, like entering cheat codes or opening easter eggs. The 3 color lines appear, that is encouraging, but the joystick on the remote won't make anything move, so it looks like there is likely an IC board bad, and perhaps some fuses (from looking at some other posts on techi forums. Looks like a job for a pro, but at least the projectors themselves seem to be OK, I think that is really the expensive part. Thanks everyone. 18. It is a Sony model KP-57HW40 Thanks everyone for your input. 19. The TV is my GF's. I don't think it got bumped. I tried going through the different menus that pop up, but there didn't seem to be anything like alignment. I will try looking up the manual when I get there tonight. Is an "alignment" something that is done from the back/behind the panels, or something that is controlled from menus? As for getting a new TV, well, we don't have money burning a hole in our pockets. 20. It is a Sony 8 year old big ass projector style. It is 8 years old. Suddenly now the picture is all messed up with the different colors slightly offset from each other - kinda looks like a 3D movie before you put on the glasses . It looks the same no matter where the input is coming from, so I know it isn't just a bad coax or video cable. Of course I'd like to know anyone's thoughts - is this a typical sort of problem when a particular component fails and whether that is super expensive, whether it is a do-it-yourself part replacement project, or if a pro is appropriate, advise on how to find a good pro. Thanks in advance. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 21. My friend's girlfriend is a doctor, and recommended doxycyclin for my 16 year old son after meeting him. After less than a week I saw a dramatic improvement. After a month now, I'd say he's about 98% better. I had no idea an oral antibiotic could help so much. He took 100mg twice daily, now it will be just once daily. It is extremely inexpensive. We'd tried so many other things with only limited and temporary results. If you know anyone that suffers, pass this on to them so they can ask their doctor about it. If their doc doesn't already know, they should. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 22. To me, that would rule out problems with battery/starter/alternator. And it would cause me to suspect a problem ignition system or fuel system. To me that might point to the starter/flywheel. If it turns over without catching, he could be refering to the starter not catching the flywheel. When a guy says that it turns over without catching, it means that the starter is turning over the engine at adequate speed, the not "catching" means it doesn't start. A starter not engaging with the flywheel is never described like that. To skymama, perhaps 3K off the MSRP is still a good deal, if the trade-in isn't worth much to sell normally. 23. Do you think the report argues in favor of new oil field development? I cannot see how it does not. Perhaps you could say that new development should be timed so that it comes on line when things really hit the fan, but I don't see how it can be argued that it argues they should not be developed at all. Charles Krauthammer had an interesting idea. Raise taxes up high on gasoline, stimulating research in alternatives and motivating people to use less, but at the same time, reduce payroll taxes an equal amount. Basically revenue neutral on governments and ordinary people, but stimulates innovation and conservation. What do you think? I'd be all for it, especially if we had a national policy to not import oil from unfriendly countries after some set number of years. 24. In respect to how many people died compared to how few would have had there been the courage to declare war much sooner...it could have been much, much better. Victory in WWII was not at all such a sure thing. At many points it could have turned out VERY differently. Another way that it turned out poorly was that Soviet influence increased greatly. If Germany had been put down much earlier, the Soviets wouldn't have been involved at all, so much would have been different in Eastern Europe. That is the point you don't seem to grasp - the war should have started much sooner, so much would have been averted. Some had the vision and wisdom to see the "Gathering Storm", others would not concede until their survival was in doubt. You don't seem to get that lesson - Do you think WWII should have started before Poland was invaded (putting yourself in the shoes of the French/British)? Do you think we should have joined the effort in Europe before Germany declared war on us? A non-interventionist policy as you advocate would have left Britain to be conquered. If Japan had not attacked us and Germany declared war at the same time, Britain most likely would have fell in the next summer. Do you think the first gulf war was justified? 25. If America had wanted to remain isolationist, I see no reason to say that we could not have defended our territory. What makes you say that was not the case. It would only mean that we would have to not care about the Britain. We would not have had to do much "fighting" to get a "stalemate". I am absolutely firm in my belief that we should have involved in the war earlier. Had European powers been involved much earlier, American involvement would not have been an issue. You seem to not agree. I think that is a HUGE difference. But if it would have been better to not be involved in WWII, why would it be right to invade Afghanistan? Besides, war causes a lot of greenhouse gas to be released, so that would have kept Gore from invading. By winning the first war, we got to decide, and revise at will the terms of the cease-fire that allowed SH to remain in power. Those terms included flying above their country. Apparently you think that doesn't matter. You haven't answered whether you think the first gulf war was justified. It was a full-on effort organized through the UN. That cozy relationship shouldn't have been, and it didn't last. The cozy relationship with Stalin shouldn't have been, and it didn't last. Hardly a new thing, that enemy of my enemy thing, don't you know, but it doesn't change the issue at hand, it is just useless nanner-nanner stuff. Over 200 years ago it was very easy to be an isolationist. Not so easy now. You seem to be unsure if that was the right position to take in WWII, but why not take that position with Afghanistan? At least to the point that we shouldn't try to invade/conquer. Of course a lot of people die even without an invasion, so maybe it is better to just recognize our adversary, in this case Afghanistan, and do our best to protect ourselves. Please let us know when you decide if you're an isolationist or not. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.
