Jumper exited at 12000 and had an uneventful freefall. At main deployment (approx 2000 feet) the Jumper pulled his main which opened with a lineover. The jumper rode this spinning Malfunction to approx 400-500 feet before cutting away. He flipped to his b

Heya all, I'm landed back in South Africa yesterday. Thank you to everyone I got to meet on my month through the US, at the Holiday Boogie and the PIA Symposium. I had a great time. Looking forward to seeing you again later this year and meet some new faces. I'm busy digging in here a bit so it may take a while before my internet access is set up but I'll be around as often as I can (at least daily). My apologies in advance it it takes longer for me to get back to you than usual. Cheers! Safe swoops Sangiro

Ron, This happened to me a few weeks ago. Had gloves on as well. I tried to grab the line, get some slack and release the twist around my finger and couldn't get it off. I flew it in that way and landed it with some rowing and a PLF. Thinking about it afterwards here's what I thought I may do next time: Pick up one twist on the other break line as well to get them even. Test my flare a few times up high to see if it flares even. I have to admit I did not (at the time) think about the risks of having to cut away once in this situation. Is this why you advise to knife it rather than trying to stabilize the canopy by picking up the other steering line as well? Safe swoops Sangiro

Yup - the spammers seem to hit it as fast as I clean it up. It's automated so i'll have to switch to a new application for the guestbook that provides more protection. Safe swoops Sangiro

Heya all, I've created and Archive category right at the bottom of the forum list. I will move all temporary forums (like the BOD Election Forum) into that once their time has come. You will be able to view and read all the existing threads but can not create any new posts or threads. Safe swoops Sangiro

If you want to keep posting to this forum I suggest you keep guns out of here. You have more than your fair share of in SC. Thanks. You should know better. Safe swoops Sangiro

Heya all, I have changed the permissions so only registered users can view user profiles. This is to protect user profiles from being crawled by spam-bots that harvest email addresses. If you are not logged in and you click on a username you will be redirected to the login screen to log in first and will then be automatically returned to the profile after you enter your username and password. We take the privacy of our users seriously and will continue to do whatever we can to fight spam. Safe swoops Sangiro

Changed this so only registred users can view the profiles. Good suggestion. Safe swoops Sangiro

No there isn't, but looking at now is not good enough for what tomorrow may look like. I have to constantly think about how the current solutions scale and also look for ways to continue to create the kind of dynamics that I think will improve the longevity of the forums. Just staying here and not looking ahead is just not good enough.

It was not a spam-bot... it was Google. The suggestion is still be a good one though.... Safe swoops Sangiro

I've had many, many conversations about this with a lot of people. I agree in principle that this is a very good idea but have nott found any self-moderation model online that I think is sufficient for what I'd like it to do. I'll continue to research this. If you do it you need to do it right. Change, especially those that involve people closely like this one, is painful in a community. I do not want to create a system that just needs to be lifted again a short while later. Safe swoops Sangiro

Phree, It's wrokning for me (all on one line) but this means that small changes in screen width will make it drop off. I'll build in some buffer. Safe swoops Sangiro

Good feedback. I'll take a look at the application logic on the manage your ad page and see if this can be done easilly. Safe swoops Sangiro

TO ALL: Marines, Soldiers, Airman, and Seamen
sangiro replied to DiverDiver's topic in Speakers Corner
He didn't empower himself. I did. I'm at the end of may patience with the amount of verbal abuse that the people who volunteer their time to help me here has to endure - some on here but mostly via PM. Feel free to disagree with them on the merits of the argument like and adult and feel free to post it but if you choose to "let loose" on my moderators then you're simple not welcome here. Take a month off to think about that... Safe swoops Sangiro -
Hey, I sent you a PM. I have not heard this from other users but I'm looking into this. I just sent you a test email as well. let me know if you get that. Also - did you recently set up any additional filters... especially a SPAM filter? There has been instances where people created rules in the wrong way and it filtered out almost all of their emails. Safe swoops Sangiro

Nope. There's no way to do that and I'm not going to implement that either. As it is it's difficult enough to deal with anonymous users. Having the ability to change your username every day or hour erodes the little accountability people have in online forums even further.
