Yes, the only problem remaining would be where to ask about doing a linked exit holding on to someone's boobies... Safe swoops Sangiro

    One Liners!

Heya, One of the reasons why Talk Back is so noisy is because people use it more like a chat room than a bulletin board. One of the best signs of that is the high number of one-liners posted to this forum. I am not changing the rules for this forum so feel free to continue using this is you have in the past. As for the new forums, they are not chat rooms! If you don't know and answer don't post a frivolous one-liner. If you want to contribute to the conversation, think through your answers or questions, write something worth reading and post it. If you don't have an answer, don't mistake it for an opportunity to hear your own voice, see it as one to sit back and learn. I will not hesitate to move and entire post (no matter how much you like it) into Talk Back if people start post-whoring to them. Please deal with those forums in the same way as you have with Gear and Rigging and other topical forums all along. Safe swoops Sangiro
  3. The modertation stays the same... being on the path to rec.dot is because of post-whoring.... not because of a lack of moderation. Safe swoops Sangiro
  4. Heya all, As you probably noticed by now I've made some changes to the forums. I've not removed any forums or changed the rules for any existing ones, I've added some new ones and restructured the categories. The Talk Back forum is going ballistic and from here it runs a risk of not only becoming a victim of itself but also doing collateral damage. Not doing anything was not really an option. This community is not the same size or beast as it was when I created the original set of forums. In principle I don't mind a forum that's moving as fast as a chat room, (it's a good problem to have!) but I think I need to throw a life-line to those people who actually want to talk about skydiving! Good information were getting lost in Talk Back. Shortly people will start to leave because the forum structure does not support their need to find skydiving related information quickly and easily. I don't believe in "death by a thousand cuts" and has therefor chosen not to introduce change in small drips and drabs but to make substantial structural changes with the eye on the future. We have to set ourselves up for a community that will continue to grow and where the needs will continue to evolve. Although people are almost always averse to it in the beginning, change is constant and good. If we fail to recognize growing needs then an respond to them I am certain that our inaction will destroy everything we're trying to create here. I've put in quite a bit of thinking into the new forums and structure and consulted with a lot of people. There is a method to this madness. Look around, I think you'll find it useful. I urge you to carefully read my Welcome post to each forum before you post there. It should give you some ideas as to the nature and character that I have in mind for each forum. All the new forums are topical, this is the only forum where you can talk about whatever you want. There are likely to be a few more changes in the near future. I welcome feedback and suggestions. Have fun!
  5. Cut back on the one-liners please. Safe swoops Sangiro

    WHOA

That's a particularly bad idea... those are all topical forums. Don't be surprised if your posts are simply deleted becasue they are off topic. By all mean, go ahead and rant and rave as much as you like in Talk Back but don't spill it over to the other forums. Safe swoops Sangiro
  8. Welcome to the BASE Zone! This is a moderated forum. If you plan to try your hand at BASE jumping make sure you know what you're getting into. BASE jumping is extremely dangerous and you should clearly understand the risks involved before you think about doing it, whether you're a skydiver or not! There are some good BASE specific discussion forums on the Internet, but because so many skydivers try BASE jumping at some stage this forum aims to provide is a platform from where you can collect knowledge by sharing ideas and asking questions. You should know that your skydiving training is not sufficient to do a safe BASE jump. Talk to the experts and get training. There are a few very competent BASE jumpers who visit Dropzone.com regularly, use this forum to pick their brains to let them point you in the right direction. Safe swoops Sangiro
  9. Welcome to the Skydiving History & Trivia forum. This is a moderated forum. Skydiving is a sport with a rich history, interesting people and great traditions. If you're wondering who did what, when and where or want to read about the trend-setters, old-schoolers, and even the new young guns then you're in the right forum. If you have questions about skydiving history or traditions, ask them here. The idea here is to learn and get some good solid answers and discusssions going. Resist firing away with a bunch of one-liners! For the old-timers and well informed amongst us, please share your experiences and knowledge.
  10. Heya all, Welcome to the Events & Gatherings forum! This forum is moderated. As the description says this is the place for the announcement, organization and planning of major skydiving Events & Gatherings. Tell us the where, when, why and how here. You can also use this forum to discuss major events and report back after the event on how it went! If you want to make sure your upcoming event is displayed on the Dropzone.com homepage, list it in the Events Calendar Notice the word "major" in the forum description! I'm trusting your judgment on this. This is for boogies, training camps, festivals and larger gatherings. This is not the forum to announce that you will be making a cameo appearance at an unknown DZ some time in the next two weeks! For that, use the Places to Jump Forum. Safe swoops Sangiro
  11. Heya, Welcome to the new forum for General Skydiving Discussions. If you have a general skydiving related question then this is where you will get a skydiving related answer. Check first to see whether your post isn't related to one of the other topical forums in the Skydiving Information category. If so, please post there. If it's not related to skydiving, please post in Talk Back. This forum is moderated so discussions need to be about skydiving. Do not hijack threads with senseless one-liners or derail them by starting to make non skydiving related chit-chat. If you're tempted to do that, go to Talk Back and knock yourself out! Safe swoops Sangiro
  12. Welcome to the Introductions and Greets forum! This is a moderated forum. I would expect that almost all new threads to this forum be started by a new member to the skydiving or forum community introducing themselves. If you're the new person, welcome! Tell us a little about who you are, where you come from, what you do, what your skydiving experience is and how you found out about us. Remember to read the Forum Rules and FAQs before you start posting. If you haven't done so already I recommend you spend some time lurking in the forums before you fire away. There are more than 250,000 posts in these forums. If you have a question, do a quick search and see if it hasn't been answered already. If you can't find the answer you're looking for or need more information read the forum descriptions carefully and pick the right forum for your questions or comments. You will pick up on the nature of the different forums pretty quickly after which it becomes second nature. And finally, thanks for dropping in and have fun!

  15. Yup. Piece of javascript that's not too keen on other browsers.... A work-around would be to view the thread in "Threaded" mode and to copy the post URL from there.... Safe swoops Sangiro
  16. Nacmac, Thanks mate - there's some good stuff here! Thanks to everyone who've been posting and PM'ing me ideas and suggestions. Fudd is right, the problem is not creating new forums for new conversations (although that can be done if there's a need) the issue at hand is figuring out a way to prevent TalkBack from melting down. I'm in no rush - I'll apply my mind to all of these and do something. At this stage it's just a usability issue... the technology has no problem with the volume.
  17. Let him go skygal! We know you've got him in the basement.... Safe swoops Sangiro
  18. Paul, You can see the reason by clicking on the "edited" link at the bottom of your post. it's hidden so those who are interested can look it up without it adding noise to the post. Safe swoops Sangiro

    Forum FAQ

Heya all, I've created a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for the Dropzone Forums. The link is in the top navigation bar. If you're new to the forums, please read thought those first. If your question is not answered there please do a search in the forums before contacting me. I'll keep on adding to the FAQ and create versions for the other sections of the site as well. Forum FAQ

Heya all, I've taken a first swipe at creating a Forum FAQ. The link is in the top navigation bar. Please take a look what's in there and refer new people there when you see a question asked that's answered in that file. I'll keep on evolving the FAQ and create versions for the other sections of the site as well. Thanks all! Safe swoops Sangiro
  21. Have you tried to click on the "Copy Shortcut" link on the left (flat mode) of each post under the user icon? That should copy the post URL to your clipbioard... just paste it... Safe swoops Sangiro
  22. Yes, and then collect your spine at the door when you leave.... I think not. I don't think nacmac is, needs or wants to be a yay-sayer! Safe swoops Sangiro
  23. I suspect you wouldn't have to anymore.... I disabled the advanced editor. Safe swoops Sangiro
  24. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of editing a post? (There are lots of other things the greenies can do and see that you can't! ) Safe swoops Sangiro
