Will a wind tunnel help me pass AFF Level 4?
marcandalysse replied to Mockingbird's topic in Wind Tunnels
My two cents.....since my friends Ron, Bucky, and Arlo have posted on the notion of quality of tunnel coach.... An AFF instructor in the tunnel with him, especially if aware of what caused him to fail the level so many times (and I agree with you Ron, just watching him in the tunnel might show you that), would help focus on that. Then the next day he could redo the level with that same AFF instructor from the tunnel session. It builds confidence in the student. I know because it worked for me! (and still does!) For that reason, I don't agree that just any tunnel coach/worker, as good as they may be in the tunnel, can match the experience of someone with hundreds/thousands of AFF jumps, and inspire that confidence in the beginning student during the redo of the level. Will a wind tunnel help me pass AFF Level 4?
marcandalysse replied to Mockingbird's topic in Wind Tunnels
Yes that may be so, but you are not a world champion several times over and she has at least ten times more hours coaching in the tunnel than you do, plus thousands of skydives doing RW, AFF training and coaching. Everything she teaches in the tunnel is based on that vast experience. Actually she is in Atlanta training with her team for another world championship. marc -
ask tk...... actually, we did tunnel training last nite, so we are satisfied. we did stop by lake wales to see the dz.com folks today.....but it was too hot to get motivated... marc

what's the worry? once Iraq is a functioning peaceful democracy, they will be so happy with our efforts that we will get a pipeline direct from them for all our needs! By the time that runs out, we will all be extinct anyway..... yes, oil gives us lots of other products too. SUVs are only a symptom, attacking them or our twin otters overlooks the real issue....the way we americans waste so much of our resources. In Florida they've been bouncing back and forth the idea of bullet trains. In Japan, bullet trains work, because every station it stops at has many local trains to get the rest of the way to destinations. If I take a train to downtown tampa, I am stuck there without a car. My Solution: Bullet Train Car Ferries! Just as I would drive my car onto a ferry boat to travel from seattle to vancouver (and read a book or enjoy the view in the bar on the trip)....why couldn't we drive our cars onto the train (like containers do), and sit back and enjoy the trip. Then once we get to the closest stop, we have our cars to get the rest of the way. Sure beats trying to drive I-4 from Tampa to Orlando!! Just my 2cents to help save our oil!!! marc

reserve out of date???
marcandalysse replied to kevinwhelan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Zhills keeps a record of our repacks and if its past due we can't jump that rig. So if I don't keep track of the date, as happened a couple weeks ago, they will let me know! So what were my options? -borrow someone else's rig -rent one -pay the rigger a 'rush' fee to get it done that morning I chose the 'pay for a rush repack' option, and although I missed some loads, I got to watch the entire process of how the rigger checked out my gear, and did the repack. That was well worth the few bucks more, and I was back in the air soon afterwards. marc -
Hi Heidi! I just visited your website, and I really enjoyed your paper about Shiatsu, 5 elements, and skydiving. I think everyone can enjoy reading it, so here's a clicky: http://www.skyspirityoga.com/shiatsupaper.php we miss seeing you at zhills!! marc and alysse "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

If you don't want to drive all the way to Aspen, for a shorter drive, stay over in Breckinridge and wander around the hills there or take back roads back to Denver.

Road Trip – NewEngland to Florida – What to do for Fun?

Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC !!! marc -
Its a big state, and you don't mention WHERE in colorado you will be. only a few days to drive around? You could stick to driving around the foothills around whatever city you are at. If near Denver, then check out Boulder. one very cool town, fun to walk around Pearl Street and drive up Flagstaff Mountain for a great view. If you drive west on Canyon/Arapaho Roads into the mountains, you will have a great drive up to Gold Hill and other old mining towns. Makes a big loop and you end up in Boulder again or Estes Park (Rocky Mtn Natl Park) marc

how about I just kick YOUR ass! I blame the Anvil for all this rain i saw him drinking that Herradura and dancing naked madly in the rain! with a girl named Arlene, too! that probably offended the weather gods! "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

Even weirder, here in Sarasota, a few hours south of you, it has been extremely sunny all morning, no winds....but very very humid! Alysse has been in the pool for an hour to escape the humidity. Since we are usually at zhills on the weekend, it's nice to finally play in the pool.... marc

TK, you know we'd rather be chatting with you and suiting up for the next loads.....oh well!

You may be correct about the talk circuit for Aziz... This week's newsweek has a paragraph on him: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8101180/site/newsweek/ Footnotes in Senate documents show that Aziz, the urbane English speaker who was Saddam's principal mouthpiece to the outside world, confirmed key details of Saddam's alleged corruption. David Kay, former head of the postwar U.S. team hunting Saddam's weapons of mass destruction, told NEWSWEEK that Aziz and other Saddam aides were eager to discuss corruption in the former regime, and particularly Saddam's efforts to buy off friendly foreigners. Kay says that Aziz "sang like a canary" about Saddam's effort to use oil deals to buy friendship among French, Russian and U.K. politicos. Kay says that Aziz once told him that if the U.S. government released him from prison, he would tour the United States, telling journalists and the public about the evil deeds of the former Iraqi regime, about Saddam's corruption and about the former dictator's "demented" mental state. Kay says that when he asked Aziz how the United States could be sure Aziz would keep this bargain, Aziz told him: "Mr. David, because you now own me." You are a great person to share a skydive with. We will all miss you, especially your 'older brothers' Jan and James! Keep in touch. I am sure you will have fun in California....chopchop and friends will welcome you with some good jumps. see ya, Marc

Not TRUE! We jump at the same dz. We see everyone's landings (and they see all mine for good or bad!). And sadly, sometimes we hear the thump and the people crying out 'CALL 911!'....We do not want to see that! Believe it or not, through all the negative vibes you are getting now, it's because we don't want to see you or anyone getting hurt! And what started the negative vibes was a post on Bonfire asking to send you positive vibes for what could have been much worse than messed up feet! Really...stop reading DZ.com and pick up a SIM instead, and sit with Sally or Laurie and ask every question you can think up! God bless you, Marc

stacy, that is true. i am far from 'old school dz.com', but i do remember a different dz.com! hey stacy, pm me and let me know what's up. quit skydiving? is that so? marc

hmmm....i wonder what he means by that? although I AM old enough to remember buying Steely Dan's vinyl recording of 'MY OLD SCHOOL'.... "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
