  1. Another problem with that rule is that it assumes that there will be only one canopy landing first. At Couch Freaks last year, we had a couple of no wind days. It was common to see the first canopies landing in opposite directions so the remaining jumpers didn't know who to follow. At our DZ, on light wind or no wind days, we designate a compass direction for landing and announce it before we take off. Eloy's solution seems to work well. Land in the direction of the arrow, period. It might be cross wind, but land that direction anyway. (Or land out.) Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
  2. Don't wait for your next malfunction to find out. On your next jump, reach down and grab your handles as soon as you feel opening shock. I try to do this on the first jump of the day (unless there are many canopies in the sky in which case my hands go directly to my rear risers in case I need to turn to avoid a collision). The handles will be higher up than on the ground. Don't wait for you next mal to try grabbing your handles, do it now! Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

  9. This is a video of a canopy deploying on exit during an rw jump from a PAC-750 last month. http://manifestmaster.com/video/pin_check.wmv I debated which forum to use for this post. On one hand, it was an incident although there were no injuries. I thought about posting it in Gear and Rigging but I chose this forum instead because I feel it is a significant safety issue (moderator please feel free to move this post) For more details about the jump go here: http://manifestmaster.com/video/horseshoe.html The story has a happy ending but it had the potential for disaster! 10. COMPLETE! COMPLETE! Thanks to Fred Sand for sending me the Jan 64 cover. http://manifestmaster.com/parachutist/p_1964.html The collection is finally complete! (well, except for the older newletter type issues) Also mucho thanks to Howard White and Garth Taggart for their contributions. (and sorry Garth for driving the price up on those eBay auctions). Guess I'll have to find a new hobby. Maybe I'll finally learn to sit fly now. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
  11. Does anyone out there have the January 1964 issue of PARACHUTIST? We now have every cover photo from January 1963 thru present with the exception of the January 1964 issue. You can view the archive at: http://manifestmaster.com/parachutist/years.html but we need the January 1964 cover. PARACHUTIST actually dates back to 1959 (or earlier?) but it didn't start being published as a magazine until January 1963. Prior to that date, it was more of just a newsletter (as you can see in the archives). I was hoping to someday have every issue on line. We're only one issue away from that goal! Help! 12. We also print directly on printable DVD disks using the Epson R200. They work fine. Ink is pricey, like $78 for a set of ink cartridges (it takes 7) Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
  13. IAD and Huey Helicopter? Sounds like a recipe for disaster when the p/c hits the tail rotor! Did I miss something? Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

  22. Times have changed. I came from the days when your first hop n pop was your first non-static line jump. I can't identify with having 8 or 9 minutes of freefall time and then having to do a hop n pop. Is it spooky? Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
  23. You rock, Doug. Thanks for all your hard work. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
  24. Just to be picky, it was Jeb Corliss who docked on Luigi (that is, if you're talking about the January 2005 cover photo of PARACHUTIST). Loic took the photo. Good luck Luigi! Be safe, amigo! Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
  25. June 1964 until November 1975 Norm was Executive director, followed by Donald Beach. Off The Wind Line....With Norm was a great monthly feature. The last installment was in the October 75 issue. Looks like he didn't want to move to Washington DC when USPA left California. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
