So do we get to hear the reason you've axed her from the list? Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video -

How did you get into skydiving?
docjohn replied to sparknote_s's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Purely by accident. Stationed in Ramstein Germany in 1974, I ran across the January 1974 issue of PARACHUTIST in the barrack's magazine rack. Read it cover to cover and got hooked. Took the first jump course and never looked back. Should be getting my 30 year certificate from USPA soon. Kept that issue of PARACHUTIST. Wanna see it? PARACHUTIST January 1974 Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video -
Yeah, too bad that Sky Systems stopped making the Sidewinder. They got tired of trying to keep up with all of the different types of cameras. Y2K composites makes a helmet similar to the Sidewinder. Check their ad in PARACHUTIST Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

video camera: how many skydives before failure ?
docjohn replied to alain's topic in Photography and Video
Sony/PC-1/800 jumps/ user related failure (I dropped it hard) Sony/PC-105/150 jumps (so far)/kicks ass Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video -
2 things in life I never understood: step thru harnesses and bicycles without kickstands. B-12's and kick stands make life easier. I guess they're just not cool. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

1 mal as a student and one at about 200 jumps. Since then, 2300 consecutive jumps without a malfunction. 2 reserve rides but those are from CRW wraps, not malfunctions. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

Need suggestions for eliminating snag points...
docjohn replied to Douva's topic in Photography and Video
You asked a serious question and received some smart ass replies as well as some good solid advice. Listen to all of it. It also sounds like you found a great deal on a camera helmet from the early 1990s back when we were all jumping heavy Sony Handycams and cameramen were getting killed by helmets like these. Seriously, what do you tell a jumper who just got a killer deal on a Strato Star and a chest mount reserve? Ditch it! Same goes for the junk you have. Don't risk your neck. Get rid of it. If finances don't allow you to spend $400 plus on a good, safe camera helmet, then this isn't your season to start filming. Save up and buy some decent gear to jump next year or the year after. I made 500 + jumps and a home modified Protec similar to yours with 20 plus pounds of camera gear with mega snag potential. Thank God I lived thru it and that helmet is now in my scrap pile. (but I'll make you a killer deal if you want it........ sorry, couldn't resist ) Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video -
a VOB file is just an MPEG file renamed. Just rename it. (ie. change MYFILE.VOB to MYFILE.MPEG). Try it! Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

Use a Sony Camcorder as a driver? HELP?
docjohn replied to Pilotmonkey's topic in Photography and Video
When I plug in my PC-105 via the firewire port, my computer treats it like a removal storage device so files (photo, etc) can be transferred to and from my camcorder's memory stick. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video -

I made the knot at the mark and couldn't stall the canopy. Had to move the knot up about 6 inches. NO, DON'T CUT THE EXCESS!! Finger trap it. Talk to a rigger or better yet, have him/her set up your new canopy. And, yeah, the Pilot is awesome! Love mine! Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

If my Cypress ever saves me (other than from being knocked unconcious), I'm quitting skydiving. It would just prove that I'm not cut out for this sport but I've been given a second chance on life. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

Did you have a recent cold? This really sounds like serous (not serious) otitis, or a clear fluid collection in the middle ear. It would explain all of your symptoms. It will usually clear on its own but could take weeks. It doesn't need antibiotics. Cleaning your ears with peroxide or anything else won't help because the fluid is on the other side of the ear drum. Decongestants like Sudafed should help as does Afrin. Nasal sprays like Beconase, Nasacort, Flonase, etc are steroid nasal sprays and take DAYS to work and they are more for hay fever (allergic rhinitis). They don't do much for eustachian tube dysfunction (which causes serous otitis). Don't be afraid of Afrin but don't use it more than once a day. Take Sudafed before you leave for the DZ, use Afrin before your first jump of the day. If your problem doesn't clear in a month, go back and see your ENT. And if you need a tube put in, its not a big deal. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

Creating still images from digital video is fair quality at best. I do create a CD rom for my tandem customers and give them 20-30 still images (jpegs) taken from their video. Those images are OK for sending via email but forget blowing them up to 8x10. If you really want good still images, add a digital still camera. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video
