Where to put my rig on flight to Florida?
rehmwa replied to Chrisky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you picka seat near the back of the plane, it's also easier to get overhead space right away and right above your seat. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants -
There is a tough one. Was he really super bright, or did you just admire his study ethic? We have people here at work that put in 16 hour days, but they don't necessarily get anything done (as I'm surfing DZ.com - oh the irony). Or did he have test anxiety? Or was he not versed on the test matter? "Maybe there's nothing wrong with you, skydiving is not your sport, take up golf" - maybe this student was in the wrong major....... Sorry about the student anyway, it's tough to admire someone and see them lose, especially when they are really trying. ... Turtle - You can purchase private unemployment insurance, also some companies have supplemental disability to cover which you'd pay in to, etc. What I don't know is whether the gov unemployment insurance is self sustaining or does it pay more than it takes in. And it's not voluntary. I don't begrudge the program, but do consider a privatized version would likely be more efficient. There are other programs to begrudge. A typical laid off person doesn't live off unemployment any longer than he has to. But the exceptions to the rule alway torque people off and those individuals should be addressed as a separate problem than the general program. other - Kodak is in a bad way because their product is obsolete and they couldn't react (read chose to react) to enter the appropriate new market. That did affect the size of the layoff. It's a shame to even see layoffs that big in any corp. But again, I'd doubt any of the Execs would purposely make poor decisions with the intent to drive their company into the ground for the express purpose of layoffs. I refuse to bundle them all into a single easy to judge package. We are all just people to take as individuals. Poor business decisions does not equal poor character. Unless you are saying negligent decision were made, then that person will be unemployed eventually. I don't try to spend too much time on either of the outliers to the distribution. I think that's the basis of a 'stereotypical' bleeding heart. They resent/empathize the outliers but don't notice the average. ... I thought the trick was that the guy had nothing to do with the killing and it was just decoy information. Except as follows: Obviously, I thought the killer was just flakey and easily distracted during a funeral and prone to falling in love for no reason. Therefore, she's nuts and just killed the sister because she kept putting the toilet seat down. (reference Selma and Patty - The Simpson's) ... Thanks Kev, but how about something less subjective and closer to where we can affect it? Or, I'd challenge you to quanitify your metric so we can actually use it for something other than just 'gut-feel'. Edit: Turtlespeed - you forget, that prejudging someone and placing them in one size fits all buckets is what liberals do best. Or else how can you HELP that pathetic wretch who is, oh so less intelligent than the controlling aristocratic leadership. You don't need to test that teacher - the democrats already know he's obviously not qualified? Man, if I ever teach Physics, I better not volunteer to coach football. ... Nice discussion - we'll still cut off a bit anyway. My point is overshooting the initial move, and that's easily fixed with some vertical drilling. I can carve as the gripper. I'll try a couple other techniques for my IC when he has that job. We might switch the roles too anyway just for that block. As far as my job as the 'grippee' thanks, the specifics is currently what I'm already doing and I needed the validation big time. "keeping an eye on the point. A little back pressure, a little inside leg, to initiate, then let it be" Other than that, I still might want to spare a bigger share of my attention on the tail anyway, but I think the IC owns that job mostly. ... Conservative Skydivers - Let's make our platform!
rehmwa replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
You're confusing conservative with extremists and I think LR's intent is this would be more of a platform for self proclaimed conservative skydivers, not a definition of the current republican party. Our current party is not acting conservative (fiscally) with the huge spending while in control. Also, the steel tariffs, prescription medicine act, now I hear we are giving the biggest increase to the arts?!! This is all not fiscally conservative at all, it's meddling and redistribution. Your points - 1 - no business dictating - agreed, stay out of the bedroom, but also stop telling us how and who to hire as an example from the dems. Both sides are guilty 2 - freedom to kill themselves - hard to agree on the stop the drug war, because that also involve people killing others, but in your vein, stop paying for rehab for people who choose to take those illegal drugs. LR might mean 'let us skydive it's our biz not yours' 3 - hands to themselves - not partisan, but a good idea 4 - mind their own business - I'm not sure the PA has either hurt or helped, but people sure are passionate about perceived extrapolation of the concept. On the other side - why do lefty schools punish expel kids for saying what they think, wearing certain shirts, drawing certain art. just examples, it's both sides. 5 - derision and mockery are good things in moderation so, What about just a platform that 'mostly' common to skydivers wallets? 1 - The reserve pack cycle is too short. Let's extend it and save some bucks. 2 - Airplanes need fuel. Let's support policy to reduce the cost of fuels. Maybe jump tickets will go down. Also, lawsuits keep aircraft designers from making new models of small planes - not right. Also, liability concerns make them way too expensive. 3 - DZ owners can have 6 or 7 figures in $$ in property, let's help their kids by eliminating the inheritance tax. 4 - Ditto for wind tunnel owners. 5 - If we were at the airport first, then new housing developments should live with it and not try to kick us off. 6 - People that take known risks should own up to their responsibilities, society should not pay for their medical expenses and they shouldn't file lawsuits to rectify their own stupidity. ... ... This kills me. A man of science and education stating that you don't need measure the thing you want to improve. Of course we don't need to test theories with data, since the world is flat, I'll just continue to accept that. If you don't measure it, you don't know where you start. If you don't measure it, you don't know when you succeeded in improving it. Wouldn't low test scores in physics identify where the football coaches are teaching? When you remove that coach, wouldn't the test scores improve and show that to be a key contributor? Without metrics, all these discussions will continue to be emotions instead of action. Rather, the actions will likely be fluff as often as real effects and we won't know which. ... Another point. Wasn't Freestyle underrepresented last year and in danger of being phased out? If so, I don't see any reason to not have a full complement from every country to keep that discipline alive as a competitive event. If we can only fill two of three available slots, then we should do what we can to fill the third slot. EDIT: I'll e-mail my entire contact list locally here as well. ... Great Missy - In that case, go kick some butt. Thanks for the info too. I've seen vids of you guys and you are great. I've already signed the petition. Seems presumptious unless the other top teams are already on board with the effort.... Who is currently elegible? Are they also "one of the" best US freestyle teams in recent history? How much better are Missy and Bill than these guys? Do Missy and Bill want to go against the normal qualification flow? I thought the top teams were all pretty close knit personally and also of parity on skill. If Airspeed has an injury at the meet and thus loses to Majik or the Knights, then Airspeed wouldn't go. How is this different? (My assumption here is the top 2 or 3 FS teams are very close, just like the top 3 4way teams are - anyone could win on any day). If the other top teams agree, I'd sign it, since they are also affected at a personal level. Else, I don't see how it would be fair. I'll check out the website later and see if that last bit is there. Edit: Apparently it's been discussed in another link that got out of hand. Maybe just point me there instead of cluttering up this thread? thanks GOT it, addition of a team which we have room for, not usurping another slot. I'll support. ... It doesn't. It helps them get elected because (and I swear to god this is the truth), some people vote for candidates based on how they look. Yes, people ARE that stupid. If the job is mainly foreign policy, how do you know which little, petty, small minded dictator you have to deal with will judge others? Or, maybe appearance is huge in some cultures. Maybe that bias was once anthropoligically based for a real reason. Maybe it's just shallow junk. In some cultures, being rather fat is a sign of success and good judgement. But in that history, being fat meant you were a good provider and successful in finding food. So it made sense at the time and is now carried into today as a social norm and there is a level of respect in having someone walk up to you and say "Hi, you are fat". It's happened to a co-worker and he had to find out just what that meant. It was a big complement. So yes, certain aspects of appearance might make you more effective. Problem is, you can't predict if they would respect someone ugly, thin, fat, masculine, feminine, etc. And our leaders deal with multiple and sometime conflicting cultures. And I'm not saying it's right that appearance might mean something, just possible. ... Thinking in terms of pressure - clockwise = more pressure on the left side of the bullet pushes it right. Using the spin of a golfball for hooks and slices ass an analogy, it's simple, but the bullet is spinning on a different axis..... In any case, then the analogy would assume the bullet is "rising" relative to it's spin axis for some reason. i.e., it flies in a nose down attitude to the relative wind..... But I don't know if that last part is true or not - does a spinning bullet have negative pitch? ...
