  1. Is it killing you that the more interviews she has, the more and more she's trying to sound like Roberts, Thomas and Scalia? She was obviously extremely well prepped, and is saying pretty much exactly what she thinks people want to hear in order to confirm her. Whether she actually believes those things, or will act like that once on the court, I have my doubts. There have been several justices over the years whose behavior once on the SC surprised people, and usually dismayed their proponents. Souter is just the most recent example. So there's still hope she'll just rubber stamp crazy left wing philosophy once she gets in? thank goodness - I was a bit worried ... 3. Hm. Interesting idea, there, John. I say we start by striking Newton's laws, and work our way from there. Tomorrow I'm calling my congressman about repealing the Pythagorean Theorem. I'm ok with that - just the basics give me 0, 1, e, i, and pi and a handful of basic rules we can derive the rest ... 4. If the so-called "best" 9 legal minds in the country come up with or 'interpret' a 5 to 4 vote on any law - then doesn't it seem that the law is crap? It looks like anything that's split that hard one of two things have to happen 1 - the judges need to be replaced with those that don't bias so obtusely per their "life experiences" or; 2 - the law needs to be sent back to the legislature where the jokers that wrote the thing are required to rework it to be more clear the goal of law should be to get as close to 'right or wrong' as we can. When we have "laws" that require art funding, or naming libraries, or fuzzy and contradictory applications of racism for the sake of non-racism, etc, then it's easy to see why it's so hard to do. A judge's job should be easy if the law-makers do their jobs and only focus on the basics. ... 11. tailgaiting is wrong and those drivers should be caught and jailed when they pose a hazard your friends should also be caught and jailed if they toss rocks and bearings - they don't have the right either However, I really like you throwing the guys butt back into his car. 12. So, you are the only one that does it in the whole world (or the only honest smoker). Can you come to our metro area and please clean out all the gutters? I'd be happy to dump them in your trunk or your lawn or house in order to help.
  13. Impossible - every single smoker I've talked to insists they smoke in the their cars only when there are no passengers, with the windows shut (so everyone else doesn't have to smell that crap), and they ALL use their ashtrays. 16. I have no problems with your entire post, if you read my posts, we agree on most all the points. Except that a bonfire can be many things, not just your boogie attitude and your post tone. If a bonfire is moving out of hand, it's time for the kids to go to the camper, it's not time to have the others settle down - one can respenct the other adults and care for their kids. If it gets REALLY out of hand, then most of the adults tend to go away as it is, because at that point, the others are being assholes and they are NOT respecting the other adults. Again, these are the ones that tend to also complain about kids are also the ones being inconsiderate of the adults too. You know it's true. I also agree with wright's response to your post that the most irresponsible behavior tends to come from the pseudo-adults. ... 17. not much to add here, just it resonates also, the Republicans tend to be (or pretend to be) ashamed of their addiction to misuse government power to control the masses (but they do it anyway). The Dems seem to revel in it like it's their due and celebrate their crapulence like it's a good thing. It's like the Reps want to control the people even though they realize the people could take care of themselves if left alone and the Dems, frankly, believe that some people really are better than others and need to be calling all the shots for the rest. in practice, I can't tell the difference ... 19. The flaw in this logic is that childen can participate in these activities. In which part of skydiving is a child allowed to participate? camping with the folks, watching the jumpers, grilling, hanging out with friends and being at the bonfire - if skydiving is part of my life, it's part of my daughter's life so there's no flaw, skydiving is not special in the end, it's just another hobby. insecure newbies try to treat a day at the DZ like they would a big boogie, but that's not the same at all. As for gratuitous profanity? I don't think it's so cool to drop it around adults either - it makes people sound like idiots. I think the same people swear in regular life as at the DZ. 13 year olds do it all the time to impress their friends - and their mothers think it's adorable. so the boogie attitude - that's not the weekend DZ, that's a big adult party. It's not about skydiving, it's about the party - so I see not having the kids there (and dogs - which city people seem to confuse with human children). the DZO can do whatever he wants in his regular business - depending on the demographics, it's either profitable or not to allow families. If he wants to advertise the DZ as the 'never ending boogie' then I'd expect to not see kids. If he wants a regular business of all aspects of society, then he'll let families come, singles come, anyone that wants to play. What about full time live in DZ employees? do you expect them to keep their children in a tent off the DZ? I know quite a few full timers that also wish the weekenders would grow up and not totally trash the place every week. There's a lot in here about respect vs an attitude of "yee haw, I can be an asshole whenever I feel like it!" It's not that big a deal to do a couple things: behave with respect for others but expect parents to be parents (which is really part of the first thing) (again, those that complain about kids, are usually the same ones that have out of control kids at the DZ a few years later - they don't equate skydiving with a cool activity they love, instead the equate skydiving with irresponsibility - before and after they spawn their little demons) ... 23. It's funny how this conversation goes - Instead of acknowledging that people like different things because we perceive things different, many choose to belittle whatever they don't like. Much like the intolerance of political discussion. Makes it difficult to actually trade ideas when the knee jerk reaction is "That's not exactly my position, therefore it's crap" I'm not a fan of beer in general - it's pond scum and any reasonable person would drink wine and hard liquor ...
