  2. "they grew up?" kidding.... I like a DZ that has a mix of every discipline - means more friends to jump with also, an atmosphere of people that do several disciplines is a lot more fun than hanging with a bunch of one-discipline wonders (and their shoulder chips) ... 3. both groups (belly and ff) have the same relative wind, the same hill. but there body orientation determines how far the wind pushes them. so belly would be pushed back further from the same wind, but freeflyers exiting on the same hill are less affected by the wind because of there body postition. it's a lot easier to tie in this concept with the other portions of group separation if you talk about it as "forward throw" or "penetration" rather than the "wind pushing them back" no one goes back - just more or less forward throw RW will have less throw - but I'd worry more about the total relative drift, and not just relative throw. any separation thread goes into the details - Kallend is great on this and you can find his input on those same threads ... RW suit

It's an opinion. nothing less, nothing more - my 'limited' observations have noted that 2 piece is more about comfort than performance your mileage might vary ... 5. I agree any type of fanaticism (envirofreaks, religious freak, overly political types, etc etc) is dangerous to society. But that argument is self affirming and doesn't really have any legs - we all agree that the 5% of people out there on either end of a topic that fit that description are wackos (except for those 5% themselves who think THEY are normal and that the other side has a 10% problem - ) But here, you have to assume the VFW commander's motivations are more than just his personal sense of practicality. You might assume he's a flag worshipper and ranting about it all the time (most of the old guys I've seen that go to VFW just want a circle of friends to have a drink with occasionally). I suspect that if he caught a kid toilet papering his yard, he'd not call the cops either - rather he'd make the kid clean it up and do yard work for a week or two as recompense and a lesson learned. Just an old guy dealing with a 'kid'. And yes - that would be vigilantism - but application of the term to these cases REALLY dilutes the meaning of the term. I just don't think people are that deep (neither the vandal, nor the VFW commander) - this is a personal thing that happened, not a huge political statement on either side. But, a lot of people see shadows in every corner - because they WANT to see shadows in every corner. So I equate this with any other other vandalism, etc. Others here assume elsewise just because a vet or a flag was involved. I think that tells us more about those posters, and a lot less about the old guy or the vandal.... ... 6. nooooo, that's not vigilantism apparently , that scenario 'would have been' vigilantism if you stole a FLAG instead of a candy bar AND if the 'lady' was a vet - then we can all assume the store employees were 'bad (assumed) right wing type people 'and had nefarious motivations I hope that's clear now ... 9. I can't tell if you are advocating burning flags and screaming protests and angry mobs over peaceful demonstrations and public forums....or.....you just got possessed by one of the one-subject oddballs from around here and are off on a tangent If it's a tangent, then my expected response is: 1 - to pretend to not understand your point and note that "but the VFW guys didn't deploy a military force, they just drove over and talked to the guy" (mainly a Billvon tactic, effective and, bonus, annoying. 2 - Or, if I did understand your point, then I have to question your logic that just because the public considers an public action to be unreasonable and over the top, then that gives them carte blance to protest in an over the top, illegal and harmful ways. More of a TomA response - reasonsed, but doesn't take us very far and avoids the topic you want us all to nod and smile on. you expected a better argument from me (even though we've been on the same page) - now I'm expecting a better one from you ... RW suit

completely NOT a fan of the concept - but if it can be pulled off, I'd think Tony could find a way if you want to freefly - use a freefly suit if you want to RW - use a RW suit if you want to camera - etc etc piece parts suits are for people that don't commit ... 11. certain kinds of protest are absolutely necessary - but if it turns (or is planned) to be ugly and confrontative, rather than to get a forum for respectful discussion - then it's counterproductive burning flags - screaming idiots -> doensn't help anyone's cause ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  12. nope - flag burning, 'shock' 'art', violent protests, flinging pee bags, etc are all abuses of reasonable discuss and healthy speech - they are the outlets for idiots, the lazy, and the poorly informed - the disrespectful especially when it involves the damage or destruction of someone else's property in short - I believe all works of this kind have little to do with any real 'causes' and more to do with getting away with the childish act ... 16. I follow this logic - even well meaning personal action in terms of addressing crimes can have unintended consequences - But I doubt this one incident would have any effect on whatever the guy's "cause" was. I suspect the 'message' is as follows "I'm a drunk asshole that doesn't respect private property and I thought burning something would be cool and might help me score" in the end, that's all these guys are really about. it's one reason why justice needs to be met coldly and dispassionately and with consistency - and ESPECIALLY without the victims taking part I don't have a huge issue with the VFW guys in practice for this specific item (much like having some kid come over and mow the lawn for a few weeks after he TPs one's yard), but I do have a big issue with the concept of what they did - though legal and fine. It's a bit difficult to reconcile. I'd have preferred the story gone like this - "asshole burns flag at VFW - flag has great personal/sentimental meaning to members - members track down guy, inform police, and police make arrest - asshole serves jail time and court requires asshole to make large restitution to VFW" ... 17. That would be coercion. It would make this act illegal. If that happened. Well, the VFW member said he tracked the guy down and they came to an "agreement" and while I can see a person agreeing to holding a sandwich board sign with some embarrassing statement on it, I have difficulty believing a person is going to agree to being duct taped to a flag pole for six hours in the sun. without more info - I can see it on the VFW side. They tracked the guy down and offered him the "public option" vs pressing charges - this could have happened over the phone for all we know this is not coercion, this is a verbal contract however, in terms of strict justice where society handles all aspects of law - the only 'vigilantism' that the VFW participated in was not reporting the crime to the proper authorities immediately there is no crime with entering into a contract there is no crime tracking down someone and having a conversation frankly, the asshole should have gone to jail and fined for for the crime (vandalism, arson) and then should have gone to civil court for the value of the flag (including it's personal value as a unique personal item - which should have been huge) the VFW guys gave this guy a HUGE break ... 20. perfect - your fastest faller should be able to fly right in the center of his range while in a strong and relaxed mantis- in a form fittiing suit that doesn't have any flapping or excess material - don't tie him up by making him dearch and get sloppy - or by having to wear a 'slow' fall suit that flaps or (really worse) has 'gimmicks' to slow him down. Let him fly - the rest can add lead for the same effect as for the pros - I think over the last few, they've experimented with real fast, real slow, etc - energy and weight is a mobility tradeoff.... ... I'm very good at RW (so is she), and but only functional at FF (and she's brand new at it) - so we FF together a lot because it's new for both of us to be doing the next new skill and neither really have anything over the other on it.
