management will only do enough of that to ensure the working base stays engaged union do even less than that for the 'little guys' it seems that it's not a matter of bosses vs unions - it should be government protecting the 'little guys' from the "Bosses and Unions" or even better, 'little guys' having enough opportunity to leave one job for another whenever the bosses or the unions screw them enough ... Only stupid idiots jump out of planes...
rehmwa replied to CobraRover's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
+1 I can't stand jumpers that believe skydiving makes them a superior human being. Take a step down off your high horse. absolutely, it's just people with a common hobby but you gotta realize this is typical for people that join a new 'group' - it makes them feel special so they build it up in their minds it's the same reason that religions all over the world can get new converts to do outrageous things but can't get the same from people born in it.... ... Did I make the right decision not to cut away?
rehmwa replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Safety and Training
don't use the word "stupid", you were "lucky this time" and you made what was likely the wrong choice I like the advice - if you can get your head through the hole, a cutaway is in order if you are of scandinavian descent - then modify that to "if you can get your face in the hole" ... had a friend with a torn canopy - flyability checks showed it good and he decided to land it He messed up his leg and hip pretty bad and was out for the rest of the season. reason - he couldn't assess his descent rate until it was too late to cutaway - hard landing, very hard landing ... tuesday's elections, a referendum on obama?

tuesday's elections, a referendum on obama?
rehmwa replied to TrophyHusband's topic in Speakers Corner
Seems to me that voting on an individual or not voting for his opponent is a 'referendum' on those two people. I don't believe Obama is running for any positions this Nov.... ... now back to the thread title - I think we are more like the founding fathers than ever before they all used to slander and lie about each other, get into fights, and pretty much try to take each other down, ruin each other (pick a side if you can't stomach the fact it's both) all for partisan politics I'm thinking the trend back to sword fights in Congress over the last 20 years is moving along nicely pretty soon, we'll be no different than any other 3rd world society in terms of unreasonable political chicanery, er....hijinx, er.....shenanigans ... that's not defined well enough sure, you can pay the extra taxes to support health care and they pay extra for a private plan and call that a 'choice to opt out' but I doubt that's what 3 of 4 people are voting on I would agree that 3 of 4 people would be happy to opt out for a private plan if they could also opt out of the increased tax load to support the plan they don't want to participate in but that would be impossible a government sponsored health savings plan would be something that might accomplish it - kinda like vouchers for schools - but it would still be a forced PAYticipation for all ... In that case the penalty depends on the quality of the evidence rather than the heinousness of the crime, which is inappropriate. nonsense - determination of guilt vs innocence is a separate process from determination of punishment. The option to have the death penalty depends on the heinousness of the crime. GIVING the death penalty vs life incarceration on a guilty verdict should (IMO) be based on two additional things - 1 - the likelihood of the criminal to repeat the crime (subjective - indicates little hope of rehabilitation) 2 - the quality of the evidence leading to the guilty verdict (direct) (kind of a beyond 'reasonable' doubt vs beyond 'any' doubt kind of thing - a bit sticky) ... As long as I have my marinated kittens, I don't really care. Did you drown them in the front yard and provide beer? "front yard" is terrible marinade, too gritty I prefer soy sauce with honey and sirachi hot sauce - sweet, hot flavor and the soy tenderizes a bit the trick is to pound the kittens so they soak up the marinade, but not too hard that they die before soaking when they meow, the marinade gets better meat penetration ... again, "how would you feel" it's not about feelings, it's about justice. Justice is removing him from repeating his crimes. I'm ok with the DP for that reason only. "I know that if someone cold bloodily (my feelings drive my opinion)" there is a big difference between justice and revenge - let's not confuse CP with revenge. Do poor people do things to keep themselves poor.
rehmwa replied to XitXitXit's topic in Speakers Corner
I refuse to stereotype an entire group of INDIVIDUALs into a pre-conceive pattern. Some individuals that are poor do what it takes to make their life better Some individuals that are poor have given up and expect the rest of us to take care of them Some individuals that are poor actively try to keep themselves and those around them from changing Some individuals that are poor get by but don't do any worse or better etc etc etc ad nauseum I suspect if you pick 100 "poor" people (how do you define that anyway) you'd have 100 stories that span the whole gambit - but a very minority can't do anything about their situation, the rest are doing something about it, or won't. ... No. It's not. If the will of the people is really your concern, which it isn't, then you should change the tone of your rants. The "will of the people" I suspect the majority of people want to see some kind of reform of private health care I do not believe the majority of people want this bill or the concepts so far proposed by members of congress so in that case, either side can claim victory by just noting the will of the people is "reform, just not this version" I do not believe the majority of people want government healthcare either, so I'd say the will of the people is "reform private healthcare, or only have government cover the gap and not the whole populace" imo - funjumpers' emotional/angry appeals are entertaining, but nothing to really work with here ... I think the desire to differentiate VFS from the artistic connotations of the word Freeflying (capital F) is probably a good semantics exercise to pursue. Though it is a bit confusing when most people treat the word freeflying (lower case F) as a generic term for anything that includes an extended resume of flying orientations beyond belly, back and knee flying (i.e., all those plus HD and upright flying - thus including Freefly, Freestyle, and VFS as subcategories of freeflying). good luck, normally I'm not a fan of being specific about labeling, but in this case it supports the goal of the post. I'd rather divide by artistic vs objective scoring disciplines instead by which axis we spend our time on - it's a much better way to group and describe the competition and the competitors RW and VRW have more in common Freestyle and Freefly have more in common So it makes more sense to not overlap VFS with RW events as the potential for teams competing in both might be more likely than crossing RW with artistic events which could more easily be run in parallel....... edit: as far as you guys and Arsenal and others working actively to support new teams..... THANKS, I wish I could travel to your area more just to soak up that offer, I can't wait to be able to go to Nats and do both 4-way VRW and RW in the same year ... Lots of good containers out there, usually it comes down to which one you think looks good, price and time to delivery.....
