  1. The difference is that one is a reaction to the other. so if she was the one that cheated, you'd be ok if he beat her with golf clubs afterwards? that's nonsense these are two separate things, the fact that they are related to each other in no way diminishes the severity of either one ... 3. then this absolutely doesn't read as "voluntary" then this reads as some horrible proposal of a law to force it on everyone or, it will drive more people to make very explicit wills to avoid this pile of crap still stupid ... 4. Which is why it's stupid. still stupid - a "voluntary" action by the owner to have his will state he'll use this process. The process is apparently defined by Dreamdancer as the default if the owner won't define it explicitly in the will........ ... 5. If the proposal is a voluntary action on the owner's part (i.e., he can decide whatever he wants to put in his last will and testement) - then this whole thread is even more a waste of time. If the owner wants to will his property to his kids - I'm fine with that If the owner wants to will his property to his employees - I'm fine with that If the owner wants to will his property to his cat, give it to charity, or put it in a giant pile and let it get rained on until it melts - I'm fine with that the common point here is that the guy gets to decide what happens to HIS stuff, body, money, etc\ ... 6. you don't understand his viewpoint - they don't care if it ruins the economy or impoverishes families they only care that they have little, and they don't want to work for it and this might, possibly, at terrible expense to society even, still result in them getting a little extra - maybe. But at the same time, definitely destroy the families of others they envy. so it has two purposes - isn't that great? ... 7. according to your philosophy children would be killing their parents (for an unearned redistribution) left right and center
  8. Though your thread is satire, What's scary about that is that we are in an out of control political swingset. We just traded one high spender on social issues (GWB) for another one (BHO) that's even worse in spending and just on the other social extreme, and when all the dissatisfaction from that mistake hits, it's just as likely we'll swing back to someone with another extreme social viewpoint even worse than the first one (just at the other end). Palin fits that description. Slow the ride down. But I don't think she's remotely interested in the job. But they could find someone else. ... 9. it's absolutely idiotic if the owner wants to will his estate to his employees, he can choose to do that already - perhaps it would be a good way to attract top employees - that's the only way for this to work I don't think you've thought this through at all, the employees risk nothing as they already get paid - the children of the owner had their own risks when the parent invested in the business, sometimes in lieu of the family's quality of life, the kids education, etc etc etc the man that takes the risk gets to choose because it's his property if you want to be all socialistic about it - here's that spin - splitting up a business will likely destroy the business and lose tons of jobs. Keeping the business in the family will ensure a better chance at uninterrupted operation and preservation of that job base. Letting the owner decide who gets what is a better choice for keeping the business alive you idea is total crap ... 10. Well, HE earned it, he's dead. So the next best thing is to let it stay with whoever HE wanted it to in the first place. seriously, WTH does "back to those who earned it" even mean? it sounds like a crappy system in any case - it sounds like it would discourage people from taking care of their families, from increasing a business and hiring more people...... etc etc it would encourage people to sit on their hands and wait for the 'redistribution'. It would encourage others to celebrate the deaths of successful types or even proactively seek the deaths on successful people..... etc etc really - what a concept - promote less than mediocrity, and discourage loyalty to family - right up the alley of certain political philosophies ... 12. "Karma" is just a PC word for Religion for those that want to believe in something extra, but can't admit it. . . . Inherited wealth may or may not be earned. I guess it depends on how hard you worked for your family prior to the time the old people died off. If I worked for the family business for 20-30 years, go to school for degrees targetted at running the business, and then inherited the business when the dad passes on. I'd be pretty upset at anyone saying I didn't earn that. . . . Wealth was earned (and taxed) by someone at some point, and since they earned it, they should decide what they do with it - spend it all, spend some and give the rest to the kids and grandkids, etc. Except for pirates, and sock puppets, they are just GIVEN their gold. ... 15. I never get city people. It's a pet, not family. Simple. I grew up with pets, they are a huge part of my life, I love my pets. But they are not people. Anyway, you are forgetting the bonus of having a dead cat - there are about 200 uses for a dead cat, 'doorstop' doesn't even begin the list really. At $4000, it's not even a tradeoff of any kind. At $400 (dog) or $40 (cat) it might be. Put it down, get a replacement kitten. Don't agonize over it or let tired old cliches sway a practical decision about your property and finances. And unless you have medical reasons to buy a specific breed, why pay $35 for a kitten when you can get them free most times? Good luck, Doc. ... 16. It certainly looks like it's starting to be corrected now, yes. I'm glad you agree. Scientists, not you, not Sen. Inhofe, not Fox News, and definitely not rushmc, will evaluate it. 17. actually, they depend on grants (academia) or results that lead to profit (real world) for short term thinking, neither of those need truth to work long term? truth plays a stronger factor (science is self correcting) unfortunately, AGW has a longer proof cycle than the careers of anyone that cares strongly about either position ... Clearly, the new Star Trek series of the 90's show that we will outgrow war. the downside is: we'll be a bunch of wusses we'll be so self congratulatory and smug, no one will like us judgmentalism will be rampant we won't be able to have any adventures without a simulator - thus life will be predictable and boring so sure, we'll outgrow, then we'll all kill ourselves ... 22. You are a denier. I postulate that the existence of non-white swans is a hoax perpetrated by your ilk. You obviously are taking white swans and dying them black, purple and green. This is very clear, because every black swan I've found was very easy to wash back to white with just a lot of bleach. They can also be plucked and then when put into a cold room with a bed of white feathers, they tend to burrow into the white feathers - clear indication of a wish to be their natural color. ...
