  1. meh - semantics - this statement is pretty much exactly what the "religious bigots" do believe in - they just have a lot more tapestry to it - and they want your money clearly this statement shows you have a religious bent and don't like the concept of "Religion", so you rename it (IMO) to something you can handle. I don't differentiate between one person's set of fantasies and another's - regardless if one is very formal and his god has a name and they have rituals; and the other one just simply likes to stare into crystals, commune with nature, and throws out terms like "karma" like it's real. it's all the same stuff to me. pretty much a comfy blanket Edit: I pretty much agree with your views on the subject. Difference is, you like to muse upon it and are happy to hear what people think on it. I don't think it matters one way or the other and am annoyed by those that really take it so seriously one way or the other. ... 3. I stand corrected - you are advocating changing up the exit order. I think in this scenario - that switching it up to capitalize on a tiny bit of vertical separation (assumed) - is pretty minor and just confuses jumpers that don't understand the wind drift mechanics. Heck - anyone in the group pull 3-4 seconds too soon, or too late will screw up your vertical sep. And, frankly, people in both groups with tiny canopies and people in both groups with big canopies will still be in each other's pattern just due to piloting styles. You'd be better off arguing scenarios that show drift to require fast to go first - is there one? perhaps downwind jumpruns where the lowers are blowing opposite the uppers? cross wind jump runs are another good one to just figure out who is flying the tiny specks and let them out first - but that is not freefall discipline dependent by any means. (I get so mad in these threads when some newbie states that freeflyers are also the hot swoopers - idiots) ... 5. I see NWPohl's points - and it seems to be a thread of talking past each other. 1 - Our current slow before fast assumes - winds at altitude and winds below are in similar directions and uppers are faster than lowers. It's a good assumption. I think NWP acknowledges this, but also notes that it's good to understand the bookkeeping when the assumption isn't true. I think that's all he's talking about, nothing more. Posters acting like this is advocating changing up exit order, I believe, are imagining an agenda I have yet to see him write. other than that: 2 - Kallend notes throw vs freefall discipline is much more significant than most people think. He's right. 3 - There are very few scenarios, where RW before FF isn't always a good assumption. 4 - People like to argue semantics and piss about little details and find it fun and frustrating. 5 - Billvon's rules of thumb are pretty good for most wind conditions. 6 - never assume vertical separation helps in safety is even remotely as important as horizontal separation - there are very few people remaining that dispute this now (at least on these forums) - it 'could' help, but it's not predictable and can't be relied on. I like cake. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  6. Interesting - I find that the most fanatical are usually the most informed on a subject (even if it's just the one side they agree with). So "most knowlegeable" likely means informed on multiple faiths rather than just one. So it makes sense for at least atheists. an agnostic likely doesn't care much as religion isn't a big deal to them - so I'd really doubt they know much one way or the other - in general YMMV but an atheist is more active in his faith - so he'd need to know about multiple religions in order to argue his sermons....... - whereas a fanatic in one faith would just need to study his area alone. anecdotally - most really religious types I know don't really understand their own beliefs as well as I even recall the little indoctrination I escaped as a youngster. ... 11. one problem with odd little gimmicks and mods and too loose a fit is sporadic inflation and, just plain, flapping material. You want to fly a suit, not have a suit fly you. Caution always with vents and pockets and tricky clever little items that just result in an option upcharge to the price of a suit. My wife makes a Big John model - simply a comfortable fit, freefall arms instead of spandex, the biggest booties and grippers we can find, double layers. It was designed originally for a guy that was in the upper 200's for weight and about 6'2" and it was sufficient without cords, vents and oddball leg designs. also, double layers add drag without sacrificing performance any suitmaker will work with a customer on this issue - but most every time I see some new "whiz bang" feature, it's crap and the only purpose was to add another $30-50 to the order. ... 15. I believe I included both popular current parties in the fear mongering category. That includes the one you mention, and the one you conveniently overlook. Vote for me or the other guy will send your kids to war. Vote for me or the other guy will force you to go to his church. Vote for me or the other guy will let the rich eat your babies. Vote for me or the other guy will let the poor disassemble your X-Box and build campfires in your living room. I can provide examples all day. Pick a list - R or D unless you mean some third other "ONE party" - Vote for me or the other two guys will tax and borrow and spend and spend and spend the country into an unrecoverable hole of despair and ruin but I might listen to that third guy that's why you can't just take the R or the D and make some snap judgment. That's lazy. You need to know what they say they will do and whether they'll really do it when it's important enough to matter. ... 19. do a search - there are so many threads about fall fallers and suit features that you'll have a hard time picking one. 20. what a waste - you people are arguing about tax rates on INCOME - while the real pile of disagreements is that one side doesn't want to tax savings while the other side does but can't, so they want to make up for it by taking away all the income they can from those with savings ... 21. this is NOT the sole push of republican's - both parties push their brand of morality on the rest of us. 23. Clicky - I'll look at it later 1 - I don't like what the dems are doing at all. But I expected that and trust them to keep screwing things up on purpose. 2 - But, the Republicans can promise all sorts of things, but I don't trust them to stick to their words. I sick of the government going between "tax and spend", and "borrow and spend". That's my only two choices right now. Where is "stop spending so damn much" - that's who I vote for (if I actually trusted them to do it once they got into power). Edit: here's one for example Our plan stands on the principles of smaller, more accountable government; economic freedom; lower taxes; fiscal responsibility; protecting life, American values, and the Constitution; and providing for a robust national defense. sounds pretty good except for "American values" - to me that's just buzz word for the government sticking their nose into personal people's values through legislation - I don't like it when the left does it and I didn't like it when the right did it. stay out of the subjective areas and minimize involvement with individual choices. Delete that bit, and I'd be happy - but I don't believe they'd follow through with it - both parties get in, then go spend crazy. at least some discussion can get in before the insults and Lucky diarrhea begins and this thread gets overwhelmed with crap. ... 25. nonsense - people keep saying this......the poll assumes you have the option to choose - there's no inconsistency - saying pull what ever handle you can get is a non-vote. It's not like if someone can ONLY get the main, that they'd refuse to pull it "well, he wanted me to pull the reserve, but I couldn't reach it, so I assumed he wanted me to just let him go and die. too bad, the main hacky was right there." Always Pull my reserve if you have the time and the option. {It pretty much goes without saying - pull the main if that's in reach and the reserve isn't - but anyone that need that clarification is too stupid to skydive} I think the 3rd option for AAD is pretty much a vote for reserve also - for people that I think aren't skilled enough or altitude aware enough to make the save without killing themselves or hurting me even worse. ...
