  1. finally a lefty on this site admits that their position really is an unfair position (but necessary, at least in their mind) a discussion about necessity is a reasonable debate and one that might offer cross understanding - rather than the usual crap that one side is completely pure and right and the other has no merit and is evil and suspicious I'm impressed, for the 1st time ... 2. Just listen to Hashemi - he's a heck of a guy and a great instructor. Soon enough, you'll get the opportunity to talk to other instructors too and learn from them as well. (I'd rather a student focus on skydiving "do's" instead of "no's" - we practice what we think, so why not mentally practice doing things correctly). ... 3. reminds me of Blazing Saddles - hold out the calm right hand - "steady as a rock" then hold out the shaking left hand - "but this is the hand I shoot with" shoot/pull, the joke transfers ... 4. OH, sorry, I missed that you were talking specifically about the arguments in here. I was thinking of the actual arguments going on in the courts and such. thanks I'm glad to hear that some of the courts can at least keep the practical separated from the emotional ... 7. Pro "how does it hurt you" "if two people love each other, why do we care" etc Con "it's not natural" "it's all about making babies" etc those are emotionally charged arguments that have nothing to do with #2 I see those types of thing posted more than any discussion about inheritance, property, immigration, taxes, etc etc etc. I'd much rather that government have a relationship with individuals only. leave coupling out it so that people can choose for themselves. ... 8. Marriage is two things - 1 - that ceremony/act where two people commit to each other for life - There is absolutely no reason why gov should have ANYTHING to do with that. 2 - It's that property/responsibility contract of default rights and benefits that gov enforces. the big joke - is that all the arguments pull from #1 while the only true impact is #2. That's why it's impossible to have an intelligent conversation about the issue. ... 9. That's the most clear comment and direction on the whole board. However, since the whole issue is about perceived 'special' rights that couples get over singles, your true goal will fall on deaf ears. OMG - treat everybody equally as individuals and leave partnering as something that's none of the government's business. what a crazy thought!! ... 11. Hi Andi - good thing. (And, I think that's the ONLY reason for a separate category and it's kind of a crappy reason and counterproductive to the respect these competitors deserve. I've met and been coached by too many AMAZING world class women out there to think that any woman needs a handicap to be competitive in this sport vs any other man) I'm just tweaking that old argument for the fun of it. You already know both sides of the discussion, and they both have merit. Didn't you see the smiley? ... 12. I, for one, didn't choose skydiving. It chose me. The choice to keep a rig when you can't use it and can't even pay your bills is to what he is referring. And unless a DZO grabbed you off the street and made you skydive, you chose it. let him be - he's trying to be deep. the practice won't hurt ... 16. In the US, we have a right to own property, do what we wish to with that property, and not have unnecessary interference with our choices. If a private individual wants to build a mosque in NY (per local zoning laws, etc) then they should have that right if they own the land to do it on - no matter what their private motivation is for it - even if we'd consider it nefarious or not. that's what "private" means. also - if individuals want to peacefully protest the action, that's also their right - freedom of speech and all that. the 1st guy shouldn't be stopped - though he could be out bid for purchase of the property if enough people are motivated (for ANY personal reasons each of those individuals might also have) to join forces and pool funds. the 2nd crowd shouldn't be silenced either, though for speaking their concerns now - if the 1st party succeeds, and it turns out to be a lawful place with lawful activities - that's how it should be. If it does end up being a haven for unlawful activity - then that needs to be dealt with at that time. I'm completely against taking action against someone for something we "think" they'll "probably" do in the future. We act based on "actions", not "thought". At least for now - though it lately seems the government is moving the other way. Short version - if he can afford the property and buys it, it's his to do with as he wishes. regardless of whether others think it's a crappy thing to do. That should be the position of someone that believes in the US version of Freedom. ... 21. Airspeed didn't "lose" it. 1 - tying Maubauge on round 9 - where Maubauge is likely a better random team was a big victory. 2 - A 23 is a super score for 22-B-16 - world champ caliber. But a 26 is AMAZING Maubauge really earned that win in the clutch - IMHO they were "Airspeed like" in the clutch ... 22. FF helmet - I have a bit of velcro on my Pro-Track to mate up with the velcro on the plastic insert of my Mindwarp. The stupid elastic keeper on the plastic is trash and barely staying sewed on. RW Helmet - the pockets in my Z1 absolutely suck (too shallow for the PT and the pocket opening stretched out very early) and the Pro-Track kept falling out - nearly lost the thing a few time. [[My original Z1 had great pockets - the new one the liner material is not nearly as good]]. In addition to the velcro bit noted above, I took a small packing rubber band and put it around the Pro-Track. The extra friction helps greatly to keep the Pro-Track from slipping out of the helmet pocket. note: both of these are NOT 'shitty' helmets, they are very nice helmets, but the audible retention features on both were fine when new, but got worse very quickly in use. ... 24. I can't add to this comment. (OP - no barrel rolls, track well, dive the plan, checking over the shoulder at wave off is the plan. If you are with so many idiots, or you are so bad at straight and level tracking, that you are scared and feel a need to barrel roll - then jump in smaller groups until your skills (SkILZ) improve) I backtrack after HD only to keep my eyes on the group and to slow my deceleration until the pack clears, then half roll to belly and a normal track. RW - belly to earth the entire breakoff and track. ...
