Skydiver claims he was fired for being gay
rehmwa replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
I hate that phrase - I've never seen it used in a constructive way. It's used mostly by assholes to justify themselves being assholes, juvenile or to justify even criminal behavior. Why? Do you behave the same way at a church parking lot, your office parking lot, and the DZ? I doubt it, and it's perfectly fine. There are entire resorts now for adults only, and that doesn't mean swingers' clubs. I said why. You didn't read it? Your mileage on the phrase may vary. Here's a personal example: I've seen people justify following and molesting unwilling women into shower stalls at boogies. And when it's discussed, 'some' people pull out "adult playground - she should expect it" as their excuse. A friend and I stopped the guy. And a women later posted a thanks on DZ.com and that phrase came up multiple times. I'll try to find the link for you. Either you're an adult everywhere or you're not an adult. That is NOT codeword for uptight or stiff. Adults have fun too and in many different ways. A DZ isn't a bar. If a DZO (resort) wants to check ID and ages and restrict access, that's their business, but I haven't been to one that does yet. When one does, great. In the meantime, 'adult playground' isn't a universal consensus by any means so throwing it out there is just one opinion. I'd love it if babies weren't allowed in restaurants. It's an "eating playground", not a diaper/crying station. I'd love it if smokers would stay off the DZ. It's a "healthy playground". etc etc etc (examples of where one person would restrict others just because of their preferences - that's not right no matter how clever the phrasing is - it's just a subset of customers whining) now, the ball pit and the giant slides? that would be cool. Maybe some trampolines too. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants -

I hate that phrase - I've never seen it used in a constructive way. It's used mostly by assholes to justify themselves being assholes, juvenile or to justify even criminal behavior. It's an oxymoron in that it's an excuse for adults to justify being anything but. I'd rather just talk about behavior in a thread like this and leave the impotent cliches to the newbies waiting to grow up. ... sure, everything is underfunded - if we just gave more money to everything, then all the problems are fixed maybe it's more about which laws are enforced, vs who's hands are tied, vs a lot of other things than just $$$$ ... This isn't me, this is from advice from some pros we get at our meets Control while standing there - I'm an OC (front outside on exit). I have a lot more control in the door with my LEFT hand on the bar whenever I can. It gives leverage against the prop blast so you leave when you want to, not when you are blown off. Stand on the step and hold on with the left hand. Lift your left leg up and way out (like you are drying your crotch in the wind), slight bend in the right knee to start a little low so you can jump - really exaggerate this and pose for a second before the count. Yeah, the wind pushes pretty hard, that's why you're holding on with your left hand (straight arm even)..suck it up. On the count, the knee comes in, then goes out, forward, and up (back up to the drying position). Hips out, forward and up. The trick is to open up the hips to the wind - that'll get you stable out the door. Don't worry about your arms - they will do what your hips tell them - if you have to, just exit and open up that left armpit to help the situation. Presentation with the others - think - Forward and up is nice, and the inside center needs back and down - this compensates for the prop blast and takes out that nasty CC rotation (this was great advice from a pro one comp). that position for launch is a pretty aggressive, athletic, launch. Suck it up and control your body. You'll enjoy it. ... I get the point - but I do get frustrated when I see people get bent about tracking perp to LOF but never talk about winds and exit separation. That's why I like seeing these threads so much. Despite Timmy's excellent and well stated positions on the subject (holding heading as a different subject than tracking direction - which I consider related), Rugby's point is fine (try and backslide perp to the LOF), but once they learn to control heading (for real) - they tend to move to 2ways - then I suspect they spend most of the time trying to face each other than a lake (or a barn, or the town) etc. ("hey, we almost got our first sit dock, but then I realized I wasn't facing the lake, so I turned away" - happens all the time, right?) anyway - this is not a productive digression. I'll withdraw and apologize to Rugby - I'm sure those DZs are doing what they believe is best and have some success at it. It really would be great for newbies to have an additional goal on solos to help learning. ... see how easy it is? you just simplified your work load go ahead and teach the theory and they'll learn about about freefall dynamics between groups. I'd rather emphasize appropriate exit separation between groups than a method (tracking perp to line of flight and anything related to that) that's only good for two ways and smaller if the jumpers are heads up enough to actually do it. ... Election time - Republicans 'embracing' health care reform Dems claiming they were against the bailouts funny - instead of following the party-based playbooks in their voting and then LYING as they approach November - they could just do what they believe the people really want in the first place..... I see that as the difference between the "God doesn't matter enough for me even to think about his existence" atheists and the "Dammit there is no God" atheists.. in that case, the guys can call me atheist (purely too, no 'karma' beliefs, or crap about 'spirituality' here either) if I can be the first kind ironic though in that I enjoy this type of thread ... If they believe in some manner of non-corporial, non-physical "spiritual force", then they're not agnostics. I'm not concerned with the semantics of what that are - but they are not agnostics. agreed - but in my case, the atheists I've come across have been "fanatical" about it - and rude and self superior about it - just like the excessively devout religious. so I'm avoiding the social stigmata of being an 'atheist' rather than the social stigmata of not being religious.......(yes, I wrote stigmata instead of stigma just for the fun of it) I assume that most atheists, much like most religious types, just quietly have their beliefs and don't go around naming themselves and others and pushing their own position as the true position. These people I enjoy quite a bit. (actually, agnostic just describes my position best - I don't know - but I don't really care either - atheists seem to really care about it - Jakee and I have gone around a lot on this, we understand the other's positions well, we just don't agree on how to present them....) ... I disagree - It's mostly empty rhetoric to appeal to everyone that's dissatisfied with both big spending parties that don't do what they say they'll do. but especially: 1 - appeals to the general public that's totally dismayed with the last two administrations lack of control in spending 2 - appeals to the general public that sees the current administration killing the economy 3 - and as you note - appeals to fiscal conservative republicans that will ditch the current reps for the newer breed problem is - this brought to us by the same neo-republican crowd that doesn't walk their own talk note that recently a lot of dems are also trying to state they are against the current spending/bailout/irresponsible policies even though they walked lock step with the current admin in the feeding frenzy of the last two years - again, more lies from professionals at it I love elections - it's where the critically insincere really put out the bull. ... So it's a one way street then. He benefits from others, but he doesn't contribute his on fair share by doing his job and being part of society as well---even though that's your criteria for many others, we have a different standard for some based on some arbitrary dividing line.....so he needs to contribute much more disproportionately to others to make up that difference. ok then - it makes sense if one comes from a viewpoint of the people being slaves to the government and the government getting to pick and choose how gains based on voting patterns and demographics ... restated correctly Religious person eventually grows up and admits he can never know for sure, then overshoots and decides he definitely knows something undefinable, and picks the opposite religion "Religious person becomes Agnostic then becomes Religious again" why not stop at agnostic - it's the only truly honest position - don't know, doesn't matter (unless you want to use your belief to judge other's beliefs) - I guess the "doesn't matter" portion isn't universal to agnostics, just that subset like minded to me. ...
