  1. you guys are funny - arguing over who's crappy specimens are superior... too skinny (and smoking like morons) and out of shape vs too fat (and this with really crappy and processed food) and out of shape I don't think either one of you are really touching on the true key point here it's a worldwide problem of lack of fitness or intelligent diet ... 2. best to solve this one issue..... still the problem is now that couples of all types now have special rights that single people don't so it's still not equal for EVERYONE, we just took one more demographic (gay couples) and put them in the special club (with non-gay couples) and still individuals are left out in the cold the only real solution is for government to get out of it completely and treat all their citizens as individuals - regardless of how or if they partner up - with all the same rights ... 3. well, I disagree with Mitt and NC on this one. it's not really the business of a large group or government on how two people want to legally contract their support to each other. you can buy the semantics stuff or not - I also see it as a legal thing, but we're in the minority - that's the whole point. the fact that others do make it 'crap', as you note, is why it IS a problem unless you have the power to take people's emotional reaction to a word (that's people of BOTH sides of the argument make it an 'emotional' issue, not 'religious', as you state) out of the issue ... 5. I think it's an important distinction. If we only acknowledged the legal benefits aspect for any type partnering as a civil union, then the focus is simple in terms of promoting equal rights between individuals. The government should ONLY be involved in the types of things that a couple individuals could generate with a simple legal document anyway. These discussion seem to generate productive discussion. the term marriage is goofy, in most of the arguments I hear are emotional and snippy and otherwise, and talk about who's sleeping with who, or some vague notion that it'll magically create respect or acceptance - this is all subjective and not really the point of the government involvement. It's really nobody's business. I don't normally respect the semantics that goes on here, but this argument really does seem to take on distinctly different personalities depending on which term is used In the meantime, any two people (or three, or whatever) that have chosen to make a partnership, but don't yet have the legal ability to get it sanctioned by the government, are complete and total idiots if they don't go get a lawyer to layout a contract to approve things like hospital visits and power of attorney, and wills, etc etc etc etc. ... 6. colors don't really roast you (a few will disagree here) - as much as ability of the fabric to breathe - and, that comes from what type of fabric you need pick the colors you like and don't worry about temperature. the material type will be set by your body type and fall rate needs. pick the colors you like and don't worry about dust and stain - you can do laundry too (caviat might be to at least keep the lower leg in a dark color if you jump in the desert, or in snowy climates - snowy areas tend to provide also muddy and harsh surface chemistry - think salty sidewalks and tarmacs, etc) ... 10. Thank you for acknowledging, even though backhanded, that governments frequently use tax payer money to advertise and promote private business in their jurisdictions. I understand the backhandedness though, it does blow holes in your earlier posts. yes, we have a large level of crapulosity on a Friday, don't we? ... 12. A lot of very rich military contractors? very true. It's a problem with the current RNC RNC has three main groups - 1 - evangelicals Reps - they want everyone to obey and follow their version of socially correct and will legislate it if they could. - With these guys, we really don't need Dems (with the same agenda, just a different focus). Both groups I suspect are sincere in their beliefs, but fanatics always scare me just because of that. I think these are the real villians in society just because they are so self righteous about their causes. Seems that the super vocal and rude on dz.com are in these camps a lot. 2 - Home defense/security Reps - they are happy to spend whatever they can to support this agenda and don't much care about the economic impact. Their friends get rich as a nice goal too. With these guys, we really don't need Dems (with an analogous agenda, just a different set of friends they payoff.) Not so worried about this type, they are easy to identify and know what they are. 3 - Fiscal conservatives - they want people to keep their own money for various reasons, both selfish and for the good of the country. We have a group of those in the Dems as well. We need more. see the theme - it's no the party that matters, it's the focus. Unfortunately, in both parties, this flavor of people in group 3 is in a huge minority since the "social buttinskies" can energize the simple minded idiots of both sides, and the "in it for the money and power" types can buy/promise influence. It's just more successful to be in the two selfish groups. ... 15. so, in your world, it's not ok for the Feds to take my money and give to people that don't need it and demand more (after the Feds take their cut). But it's just fine for the State to do the exact same same thing. I guess if a city council decides to take a big chunk of money for city employee team building trips to Hawaii - then that's fine too nuts - criminal abuse of the social contract is wrong regardless of what level it happens ... 18. Oh, I think he was pretty quick to come out and say that he still opposes gay marriage and civil unions, and that he won't ever change his mind on that issue. OK - so Obama says (this week) he's for it, but he won't do anything about it. And Mitt is still opposed. So what really happened to improve the state of equality???? (except for voting for Bolas which would make things equal). Nothing - it's just shallow, impotent, PR. ... 20. the 'state' isn't paying anything. the taxpayers are. Minnesota has yet to remove any 'temporary' tax it has ever started. Inferred revenues are interesting, I'd rather the 'state' invest in something direct, or just stay out of it and let the businesses operate on their own corporate welfare - no different than the banks, or the oil companies, or the green companies. it's easy - each individual files a single tax form for themselves regardless of marital status and everybody follows the same tables and rules get the government completely out of it Or possibly this family group could incorporate, and pay tax as a corporation. 22. if the city and state can make a "real" profit on it, then they should just build one on their own and use it to generate direct revenue to pay the bills. I bet they could never do it for real though If a private company thinks that they should get help because it helps local businesses, then they are certainly welcome to establish a legal partnership with those local businesses directly rather than forcing it through legislation. Hell, they could even set up a trust and solicit donations from those that want it so bad. ...
