This is what those body parts are doing relative to the jumper, of course, not to the earth or the base.... (legs come down = legs 'push' down - relative to the earth, that'll actually lift the legs up..... as the amplified force on the lower body rotates the entire body....thus 'up and out'. Frame of reference in verbal descriptions is an odd thing) ... this ^ A good drill for all of you to go up together and get in a fairly loose circle. Now (if you are all decent enough to hold a column of air) signal from the IC everyone close your eyes and relax into a comfortable, middle of your range, mantis posture slowly count to 5 or 10 open your eyes and find each other it'll be pretty clear who needs more lead and who needs to start exercising and eating better actually, video is good here to identify if anyone 'relaxes' into a really crappy body position - they might need to 'fix' that before anyone adjusts lead (someone might just 'relax' into a heels on butt backslide or something....that would just mess up the exercise and require more basic training first) edit: tunnel time is different, it's a VERY quick and effective exercise and not need to do the eyes closed thing at all - just get in there and see who's straining slow and fast and get the fixes done real time. I'd hesitate to put 4 people in a tunnel with eyes closed at the same time ... so stating the question clearly - What rights and dignities are we willing to take away from 13 million people for every 1 violent loonie that we hope, maybe, we can predict? Still a serious question. It's quantifying the question, not minimizing the seriousness. ... You did everything exactly perfectly (no harm, prosecuting the criminal, etc etc etc) and, for your reward, you get accused of causing him physical harm. that's what's wrong with the process - bingo ... That's a tough one. First impulse is scare him away (seems the gun owner aspect of that is pointless, scare him away with a bat, a screwdriver, or a 7 iron - the tool doesn't matter really), but I'd like all my options - so gun owner, he runs away BUT he comes back sometime and now I'm not there and my wife and daughter are. I want the option for "Stopped him until the police got there and took him in custody". If not, gun owner, dead if he attacks me/family, or runs away if he doesn't" so "Gun Owner - Takes appropriate actions based on the intruder's actions" the point is, just being an intruder isn't necessarily the sole reason for being killed. BUT, being the intruder shows a willingness to break the law, and potential for violence is now a serious unknown. So, once he's does become an intruder - all sympathy is gone no matter how it turns out. So I'll vote for the dead intruder and the next option if I could vote fore both, but I don't like how that can be twisted into a strawman by how it's presented. (I know that's not your intention, but you know these things go) ... there's no "I don't know" about it. I feel exactly like you do. However, we are the exception. Not the rule. Try it. Once you get past the cynicism of it, it's kinda nice (I hate that I'm admitting that). And, it's only plastic when it's plastic. If you mean to be sincere people know. any time people are killed it's a problem - whether by mentally ill, or fanatics, or even by accident it also makes good press the question isn't whether it needs to be addressed, it's about the current ideas on the table and whether they are pointless political gestures, or truly effective. I've seen nothing to date from the usual suspects that's more than skin deep. ... I'm not sure it can be without significant trampling on the blameless. However.... I like the idea of a 'license to purchase'. In MN we have the sheriff review a questionaire and do a quick background check to authorize handgun purchases from dealers. Dealer still calls in to check to see if it's valid during a purchase I think. 1 - I'd think it should be expanded to any firearm purchase. 2 - the dealer call in is stupid and should be canceled. All it does is signal pending purchase for something already authorized. If the buyer has committed a felony since issuance of the license, then the permit would be taken away anyway. Other than that, maybe renew annually. 3 - Once the permit is issued. The buyer should be able to buy zero guns, or a thousand - no reason to register or track. He's qualified. Again, if heis GUILTY of committing a violent felony, then his guns are confiscated anyway - . It really isn't any business of the government to know what property I own if I'm law abiding. one other thing I'd add - I think the license should come with a proof of gun safety knowledge. Either answer a quiz, proof they took a course ie certified (not needed if dad did a good job teaching it - thus the quiz), etc. It should also have questions about storage, handling, and transport too. Gun safety is VERY simple, even demonstration and discussion. lastly - private sales should require the permit too. but I see no consistent way to enforce or monitor it. so that just an impotent gesture, but it'll mean something to honest people that do follow the law - they'll ask to see the permit. Gun safety should be offered in school and suffice as certification. Other than improving the general public's knowledge of firearms and taking away the hollywood mystic. these wouldn't fix your loony issue at all. nor would it fix illegal acts. Nothing will really. But it would give the law abiding citizen good grounds for ownership. As for 'loonies', I think it's a false trail. If someone commits a felony, then they are a felon and their rights are ended. That goes for sane as well as loonies, so it's already in place. IF someone is really a 'possible threat' due to loonie behavior, well....maybe the training and licensing of the public in more thorough fashion about guns will make people more aware of local laws and good practices about (as I said, handling, transport, and storage) - and make it a bit harder for the loonie to at least take away someone else's gun. And to be more aware of when others abuse the right. (I want us to watch out for each other, not watch over each other - there's a real difference there) ... apparently the process is as follows: 1 - someone admits they were bullied, or it's observed and reported to the authorities. Or bullies create a database of people they pick on and he's on the list 2 - the person is then separated from society and his guns are taken away 3 - a "panel" of (apparently) power hungry "experts" sit in judgement on this individual and decide if he gets to have guns or not. it is unknown if these experts were or were not bullied as children 4 - someone has to pay for this 5 - individual thanks society for protecting society from himself It's not even thought police. It's "what I might imagine you are thinking" police. ... 1 - just because a kid is bullied is not grounds to call him a loonie and deny him the ability to purchase stuff as an adult. Even Kallend's scenario only said one of the hundred turned out bad. Though he would deny the 99 certain rights to contain the 1. But even he didn't just blanket decide all 100 were loonies. 2 - also, I'm not 'giving' any kid access to guns. But, when they become legal adults, it's not my business to decide what they buy (even if they were bullied at some point) ... so you claim you'd lock up 99 kids for the vague chance that the 100th is a violent looney. (I think the 1 in a 100 was just for discussion purposes....if 1 in a 100 kids that are bullied acts out violently, we'd have a shooting a week in each school - so really, you are advocating locking up 999,999 innocents to maybe protect 1 - the concept of your argument still applies, but let's get the scale clear) How do you pay for all these panels of 'experts' that don't want to make the decision? If some professional was on the panel and they actually desired to hold the power to restrict people that otherwise have done nothing yet, wouldn't you be scared of that type of person in that kind of position? ... Why would a government want a list of gun ownership?
rehmwa replied to toolbox's topic in Speakers Corner
it's better than that, it might open up "opportunities" for tons of revenue sources for spending programs that would benefit everyone that's smart enough, sane, and generous, to understand that long term spending on things like - perverted arts, social studies, and foxy boxing equality centers are a benefit to all - once, of course, the politicians and their buddies take their fair cut ... Why would a government want a list of gun ownership?
rehmwa replied to toolbox's topic in Speakers Corner
sure, what the hell. We should just also give them a list of all the meds in the house, any jewelry, a full list of accounts and assets, pretty much a full list of property. Surely the government should also know our entire history of sexual partners maybe we should also post a journal of our dreams every night too for analysis I doubt the good folks in washington would do anything wrong with that info, or desire acquisition of any of the wealth or assets either. They care about the little guy. -

If the underlined part is true, this would result in a better glide ratio. Correct? yes, it's conceivable, if done correctly, that you can get just as good a horizontal velocity when you get big and track, as when you get tight and track. Therefore, if the horizontal component is the same, and the vertical component is slower - you get to track longer. it achieves a shallower path relative to the mass of air (glide ratio) you are tracking in (with all your friends) edit: discussed in other threads. If you can get your body's angle of attack to whatever is most efficient for horizontal motion in your relative air column. It doesn't matter if you do it by tilting down at the head (you'll fall faster - think about the upper body getting small so you tip down) - or if you do it by tilting up from the legs (you'll fall slower - think about adding drag to lift up you lower body). In the end, your body is still at the same attack angle, but you achieve one by speeding up fall rate, and the other by slowing down fall rate. ...
