  1. Yeah, Bolasss, you pack like a chick. I almost had to rent a bigger trailer to get your shit to Lost Prairie By the way, I have never seen a sillier thread - "can a chick make it to a DZ with one carry-on bag"? Geez, what ya been smoking Lucky?? Doc Hey! I actually made it to Arizona last weekend with one carry on bag plus my rig!
  2. Canon elph with the mod for remote shutter release. $10 camera and however much someone wants to charge for the mod. Note: you didn't specify if it had to be digital. These are film cameras but perfect for learning on before spending the big bucks.
  3. I'm not talking about any incidient or protection against one. Just in general why I feel a student should not wear a hard helmet.
  4. The student should not wear a hard helmet due to possibly knocking the instructor unconscious if they whip their head back. Frap hats are fine. It's much better to land with an unconscious student than an unconscious instructor!
  5. IIRC, I've heard of one prominent dz that used to pay $5 per load but switched to an hourly rate a few years ago as the pilots were making too much money. 5 bucks a load is too much money? You're joking right? 5 bucks a load is what was paid in the 80s. It's 2009. Nope. Think multiple turbine dz in sunny climates. Pilots can fly nonstop from 8am to sunset. Or maybe it was more like $10-20 bucks a load..? Don't remember it was several years ago. Just know they were making a couple hundred dollars a day before the switch.

  7. From my experiences, for lower jump numbers, Elisnore has a better enviornment for beginning free flyers while Perris is better for beginnnig RW/big way flyers.
  8. Guess she hasn't heard of birth control, then?
  9. Yep, I know, it takes a few months for the hormones to completely stop working and send messages to the brain. Any marking after neutering is more out of habit which is a tough one. Either way, if that lady owns cats that are not fixed (and the numbers alone are indicating that she does) she is not being responsible. Totally agree with you there! And there's no way anyone person and care for 20 cats.
  10. It also matters when you get them fixed. If a male cat starts spraying before you get them fixed, chances are it will continue even after they are fixed. Best thing is to get them fixed while young, around 6 months.
  11. I've thought about it to pay off some debt but I don't know if I really would. I hear the hormones you have to take are pretty serious stuff.
  12. I can't understand anyone that needs to smoke and then jump. I mean, isn't skydiving itself enough of a high? I know for me it's more than enough. What surprised me the most is when I found the dzos knew about certain people lighting up and jumping and didn't seem to care considering other mundance things they restrict.
  13. Had a friend that had her neptune taken out of her checked baggage back in 2006. Since then I always put my altimeters in my carry on luggage.
  14. Transsebrian with Woody Harelson. Very thought provoking.
  15. So the LED that comes with the Optima is unbendable? And the Hypeye is bendable?
  16. Thanks. Anyone have experience with this one?
  17. So I know the Optima has an LED set up but I've also heard the Neptune has an attachment LED as well. I couldn't find anything on their website. Is this true? Or is the Optima still the only available option right now? If there is more than one choice what is your preference?
  18. Haven't there been some fatalities/mals due to the velco NOT releasing upon cutaway?
  19. Does Kapow ever do night jumps? It's been too long since my last fix.
  20. I have a car reserved but was hoping to either share it and give others a ride or cancel and get a ride with someone else myself. I arrive in Ontario at 5:20pm on Tuesday and leave from Ontario at 6am on Monday morning. I was considering the shuttle but I do not really want to be picked up at 2 or 3 am on Monday to make the 6am flight.
  21. It goes through screening quicker if it is by itself. If you put it through with every thing else in the bag then most likely the entire bag will get flagged and they will have to hand search and swab everything. I would take it out of the bag and put it through the conveyer by itself. That way if if gets flagged there is much less to look through and swab (just the rig itself).
  22. Escaping the cold, wet northwest weather for Lodi this weekend!
  23. I signed up for a tandem in 2001 as a graduation present to myself. Liked it so much I did a second the same day. Even better was these jumps were at 6 am in the morning! Our college arranged to have the tandem instructors come down to a private landing strip near the college for jumps on Saturday. We got winded out Sat afternoon and not everyone got to jump. They told us to some back at 6am on Sunday and they would get us up. I don't think they really expected us to show up but about 5 of us did After that I knew without a doubt I was hooked. Waited a year to finally go back and do another tandem then AFF.
  24. Search craigslist and newspaper ads for used cars. Do NOT buy a used car from a dealer. Not only will you have to have proof of insurance but you will most likely pay a higher price. The best deal would be to buy from a private party. If you know cars make sure you check it out or spend $50 bucks or so and have a mechanic check it out first. Pay cash for the car and register it in whatever state you buy in. You'll be fine in all 50 states after that as long as you have liability insurance. I don't think the rules would be different for foreigners but I'm not sure. Not sure if you would need an address in that state to register but I'm suspecting you would. Maybe a PO box? This is speaking from experience and working for 5 years at different dealerships
