  1. Buying a piece of equipment, doesn't mean that you can't seek opinions of others who bought the same equipment! My question was directed to the people who currently own a Vortex II. I forgot to mention that my new container has not been delivered yet. ( just a few more days to wait ) Yves.
  2. I'd like to know more about how a VIGIL is programmed to perform it's tasks. We've all seen that a single unit can be programmed to be used in student, tandem or expert modes. What are the safeguards that have been implemented in the VIGIL, so the unit can not be switched, inadvertently, between the VERY different modes of operations ( for instance, the tandem mode would fire the cutter at a very different altitude than the expert mode?) Yves.
  3. I ordered a Vortex II container, and I was wondering how many of you have this container? What do you think of it? Yves.
  4. Thanks Kolla! I'll check with the manufacturer of my rig. Yves.
  5. Hi all; I'd like to know if any of you has a packing volume chart for the Sabre2, and also for the Crossfire2? Thanks. Yves.
  6. No, Poverty and suffering, are the breeding ground for terrorism, not the muslim faith, or any other faith. Yves.
  7. I just got back from the last presentation of the IMAX movie "Adrenaline Rush, The Science of Risk", that was held tonight (friday)at the Quebec city IMAX theater. The movie ran for 7 months at the Quebec city theater. Carl Samson, the producer of the movie, was there for the occasion, along with 4 of the many skydivers that participated in the filming of the movie. I managed to speak with Carl a few minutes, and asked him a few questions about how the movie was doing, worldwide. He said that the movie has been a huge success so far, everywhere it's been presented. And yes, he confirmed that a DVD will be produced, some time in the future, but doesn't know exactly when, at this time. Carl also told us, that the movie will be featured in at least 35 more IMAX theater through out the United States in 2004. So be patient! It's coming! Yves. Yves.

  9. I get the same kind of spam, at least 20 times a week........ I just can't think these spammers keep sending similar messages to the same people, over and over. Stupidity at it's best. Yves.
  10. Crock pot cooking is one of the easiest way to make you eat excellent pre-cooked meals. As I often work very late at night, I rely heavily on my crock pot, during the week, to keep me away from junk food. On Saturdays, early in the morning, I prepare in advance the meal that I'll be eating when i get back from the DZ. The slow cooking times of the crock pot, allows me to be away from home for some time, and enjoying a full day of skydiving at the DZ, without having to worry about the meal to burn before I get back home, and the result is always a delicious meal. I have the RIVAL model 38601 (the electronic one, that lets you choose specific cooking times, between 4,6,8 and 10 hours). With the crock pot, it's easy to prepare many meals in advance, and put them to the freezer. Crock pot cooking is perfect for the skydiver who want to spend his time at the DZ, not in the kitchen. Yves.
  11. Thanks for the tips Kim. I know that PD has an excellent customer service. I had my previous canopy, relined by the PD staff, and they did a superb job. Yves.
  12. "Do a google search on "crusades." If anything catholicism should be made illegal, if stopping wars is your objective. " Well, this is one of the shittyest post i've seen in years.... Yves.
  13. The difference between religion and race is a very thin line. Yves.

  15. Thanks CanuckInUSA, Aviatrr, and all others, for your tips. I'll have many things to try next week end. I'm not giving up yet. I'll try psychopacking the Sabre2, just to see.. Thanks Yves.
  16. Right now, i'm in the process of eliminating all probable causes, for the canopy to open off heading, one at a time. I load my Sabre2 190, serial 0001720 at 1.33 (I bought the canopy, brand new, in december 2002). I'm about to take delivery of my brand new container, which was built for me. My previous container had been made for a guy taller than I am, so, I had to tighten my leg straps pretty tight (walking like Lucky Luke ). I'll have a good idea if this helps, when I jump my new container this week end. My previous canopy was a Sabre 210, and the Sabre 210 never slammed me on opening, like my Sabre2 190 do now. I will try a few more things this week end, to see if they can improve my openings. Most of the time, the canopy opens violently and turns to the right, right after the slider comes down fully against the Slinks and risers. On a few occasions, the canopy started to turn to the right, with the slider only half way down. Anyone know if PD recommend that the Sabre2 be packed just like the Stiletto? Anyone has tried psychopacking the Sabre2? Yves.
  17. If I can't fix the problem with my Sabre2, I'll probably start looking for a Cobalt or a Crossfire2. Yves.
  18. Let alone the opening problems, the canopy flies and lands like a dream Yves.
  19. There are a couple more things i'll try this week end, before I make a decision on wether I should return the canopy to PD to have it checked. I'll let you all know. Yves.
  20. Hi all; I also have a Sabre2 190, serial 0001720, and I'm having the same problem. I have done 50 jumps with it so far, and i've got like 47 hard, off-heading openings, with the canopy turning to the right, in a dive. I will probably send it back to PD so they can check it.
  21. If you want to listen to music while skydiving, I recommend that you look for a RCA Lyra2 MP3 player. There were two RCA Lyra2 models sold on the market: The RD 2209 and RD 2211. You can find both of these model on Ebay. I bought mine ( RD 2211 ) about 2 years ago. The player came with a nice wired remote control, and a 64Mb compact flash memory card. But soon, I got tired with the 1 hour limit the 64Mb card provided, so I recently bought a 512Mb compact flash memory card, and I can now enjoy about 8 hours of uninterrupted music ! The advantage of flash based MP3 player is that they're immune to high G shock sports, such as jogging......and skydiving. I also have a 20Gb Nomad Jukebox, and it's skips when I walk rapidly.....so, for skydiving, forget it. Don't think about a hard drive based MP3 player, and get a flash memory based player instead. (A friend of mine had a 512Mb card, and I asked him if I could try the card, to verify compatibility before I shell the big bucks on a useless card. It works perfectly, but I found that the Lyra2 has a 100 song limit, regardless of the available memory. So unless you're willing to record entire albums as a single MP3 song, You'll be limited to about 450Mb worth of music (100 songs). So with careful "memory management", you'll be capable of filling the entire 512Mb, just as I did. I'm pretty sure the player would function correctly, even with the now available 2Gb Compact Flash card) As a side note: IBM Microdrives are extremely sensitive to rapid barometric pressure changes, so they're definitely not recommended for skydiving activities (digital photography or MP3). Yves.
  22. Adrenaline Rush is a hell of a movie! The scenery is awesome, and the skydives..........unbelievable. As far as the music's concerned, Peter Gabriel, and Afro Celt Sound System. The song is called: When you're falling
