Well he was sure sought after by a lot of people. He gave me better openings than I gave myself and no malfunctions on more than 1200 pack jobs for me. He packed me in less than five minutes. He still does a lot of packing. Easily 50 per week. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

My son started packing for me when he was nine and for others when he was 10. By the time he was old enough for the FJC he had 2500 pack jobs and $5,000.00 set aside for his jumping. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

Looking to make a group winter trip -- Midwest

If you send me your email address I'll put you on my list so you'll be up to date on the trips I organize. I usually do at least one tunnel trip each year (this year I did two). They are always maxed out within about two weeks of announcing them. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be. -
I ordered my first Wonderhog directly from Bill while my buddy and I were on a Deland jump vacation in 1975 or 76. This narly looking guy walked up to me with a set of risers and he "forced" me to take one end. He then instructed me to pull back while he pulled on the other end. I gave it a half hearted effort at which time he emplored me to put some weight into it. Not wanting his "biker buddies" to get involved I really leaned back on the risers. He then told me to pull this piece of plastic (golf ball or chunk of wiffle bat ???) which was attached to a plastic cable. I almost fell on my ass as the 3 rings released. I immediately told him to hook that up so I could do it again. After the guy proudly explained to us how his new born child came to be, my buddy and I ordered rigs while we were there. He told us that we had a choice. We could get the rigs right away and have R3s for the cutaway system or wait until he got the large ring TSO'd. He had no idea how long that might be because he still had not found a source to forge the large ring. I told him to wait until the "3 Ring Circus" was TSO'd. My buddy didn't want to wait and ordered the Rodrigues cutaway. After about 8 weeks or so my friend showed up at the DZ with his new rig. I was envious. One week later I showed up with my new rig with 3 rings. My friend was not only envious and jealous he was pissed at himself for not waiting. My new Wonderhog was awesome. Even with the belly band, blast handle and folded over bite of bridle to keep the main closed, I would still jump it today with no worries. I'm pretty sure I had the fiftieth Wonderhog ever made with 3 rings I've been jumping Wonderhogs ever since. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

If your trip south doesn't work out then you should join our group to the Colorado Tunnel in February. We go every year. Usually buy 20-24 hours of time. we car pool out from various cities ( IA City, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines) Leave on Friday morning and come home Sunday night. Also with the weather the way it is now, if you don't want to drive all the way to Hinkley (with the chance of bad weather) then come on out to Skydive Iowa and check us out. Brooklyn is 40 minutes west of Iowa City on I-80. We also have several people planning on a winter jumping trip. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be. -
I have my rigs washed every two years. My rigger rinses them in a utility sink and then puts them (one at a time) in a front loading (low water) washing machine. Hang for a couple of days to dry. They come back looking like brand new. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

Where????? give me the heads up on that please. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

I have had the same trouble in the past. I don't think they're very good at responding to emails. At least that's my experience. Maybe Amy can help you. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

While having a few beers with Ward about 3 weeks ago, he said there is no light at the end of the tunnel. He has no expectations of completion and I think he would actually prefer not to discuss it. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

John what is your answer to this question? Look, John already mentioned somewhere up thread that the canopy with the better L/D has the expectation of going the farthest. That's not in dispute. At question is the cute bit of wisdom that 7 cells means you walk more. It has been years and years since I landed off the dz with my Spectre. Lots of people on their Sabre2s have landed off and I go to pick them up. Many of them even had a lower wing loading than I do. So the cute bit of wisdom doesn't always hold true. It depends on the pilot. That's what John has said over and over again. If the 7 cell pilot lands next to the road instead of in the middle of the field next to the 9 cell pilot, who walks less? Probably the 7 cell pilot who doesn't have to walk so far to the ride that picks them both up. 7 cells or 9, poorer pilots walk more than good pilots. Skilled pilots land where they want to. Less skilled pilots land where the parachute takes them. Thanks for the response. Now as I asked before...... John, what is your answer to your question? I'm just curious. I'm just adding to the thread, not responding to the last post.............. I made a statement upthread (post 38) and these videos just prove my point. That last video was a self induced spinner. Stop looking up and grabbing risers during deployment. You will have fewer malfuntions. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

Use the "Fly to Survive" video from USPA. Call Jim Crouch. He'll help you. I've found nothing better for showing exactly what you are looking for. The best part is you can show the full landing and then pause it at exactly the spot you want for emphasis. You can also slow motion it back and forth. It's much better than a single still. I know this is off topic, but many people say that looking up and reaching for risers during the opening sequence invites off heading openings and line twists. Because most people don't do this very symetrically causing an unequal loading of the harness. I would have to agree. I stopped that habit years ago and believe it has made a huge difference in my openings. I now look at the horizon and work to keep my shoulders square. I also put my feet and knees together as I start getting pulled up to the vertical position. This allows the harness to get equal loading on both sides. Just a thought. Canopy flying sideways on final
Skydivesg replied to slcooper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Get someone to video your landings. Several of them. Then have someone who is very knowledgable about canopy flight to view the video with you. This usually corrects these problems. It is occasionally the canopy trim but very seldom. If so, the video will help to determine that. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be. -
I stand by my original statement. For those of you who want to be informed and educated, do the research. For those who don't care,........ just keep regurgitating what you've heard from others. And for those who are stupid and lazy,............. keep gobbling up that which has been regurgitated. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

I would check out the Cookie Compsites helmets. The new inner material is very impressive and is actually designed for pretection and comfort. If you do the research on d30, it's hard not to be impressed. It's not as cheap as a Protect. But I'm more concerned about protection. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

How many were they trying for. I was on the state record back in the late 90's. I think it was a 44 way. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

The steering lines (brakes) will have a loop at the end where you just put the toggle on. The length is already set from the factory. Don't change it. It sounds like you should have a rigger or at least someone who is very knowlegable help you set up that canopy. It will come with Slinks and you need to be knowlegable about using them. Get some help. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

Actually, I know of a TI (about 8 or 9 years ago) who did not hook up either of the tops and did not know it until after he opened. Apparently the passenger hangs quite a bit lower with only the laterals connected. Go figure. And there's art..... Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
