  1. .......and they'll have nobody to blame but themselves. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  2. Hi Jerry, thank you for the explanation. I would love to learn more about the RAX. Sandy Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  3. Jerry, is there a particular reason that you only want to share that info with Tom? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  4. OK. I understand that jumping the things you mentioned can change your EPs. I also understand, while jumping those things, the desire to jump without the RSL hooked up. Those items are responsible for the change in EPs. But how does just the RSL or lack thereof change your EPs? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  5. Airtwardo, while I admitt that it is 4:00 am, and maybe I'm not thinking straight but I can't for the life of me come up with an answer to my question. So here goes: How does having an RSL or not having an RSL change anything in your EPs? After I decide to cutaway, I look right, pull right, look left, pull left. With or without an RSL. Is there more to it than that? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  6. The Westwind crashed about 10 days before the Perris Otter. Defintely not Coolidge. It was in Eloy. I'm pretty sure it was '92. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  7. Am I in it? Am I in it? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  8. I just purchased a 2K after looking at both helmets in great detail. I've only had it a month. I was so impressed with the 2K that I have since become a dealer. If you want to discuss it in more detail, pm me or send me an email. Sandy Grillet SkydiveSG@aol.com Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  9. When you call down to PD about a demo, ask for a young man by the name of Nick in the PD Tour department. He's quite knowledgable about all the PD canopies and how they compare to others on the market. He loves to talk canopy flight and will provide you with a wealth of information. And when you do.......... tell him I said Hi. Good luck. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  10. A couple of early exits due to engine trouble on DC-3s in the eighties. Reasonable altitudes not much pucker factor. Engine out on an Otter. Enough altitude to get out over the DZ. Skyvan aborted take off on a 300 way attempt at Skydive Chicago. We ran off the end of the runway into corn. Sheared off the nose wheel. No injuries. We grabbed our O2 hoses and got on other planes and did the attempt. Westwind crashed on take off in Eloy in '92. The pilot forced the plane off the gound before it was ready to fly. He took turns slapping the wings on the gound then sheard off the gear which came up through the floor. We then skidded off into the desert with the engines running full power. Man did those props kick up a lot of dirt. Several injuries. No fatalities. Airplane was totalled. I really thought we were going to cartwheel as the fourth wing strike was about to happen but thankfully that is when we hit the gear and took off for the desert. Yahoo........... you haven't experienced our sport til you've lived through an airplane crash. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  11. Come on guys, you have got to be kidding. Hasn't any of you ever heard of Darwin? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  12. Yeah, the pictures you attached show exactly what I was describing, It has worked for me for several thousand jumps. No excess line escapes before the toggle and brake is released. Many people I've talked to over the years have cutaway for something that is so easy to avoid. Good luck. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  13. I don't know if I can explain this correctly but here goes. I run the excess through the loop at the back of the riser then bring it to the front and loop it over the top toggle tab right along with the cat eye used for stowing the brakes. Then place the tab in the holder used for stowing the brakes. I don't like any method that gives any chance for the excess line to come out before I release it along with the brakes. I have seen too many people cutaway because they reach up to release the brakes and they end up with a half-hitch due the excess line coming unstowed before they are ready. I saw two cutaways this year alone due to that. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  14. Do you know if the FAI stats include deaths due to aircraft rides to altitude or only those who successfully stepped outside the aircraft? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  15. **************************************** Some people want to be swoopers and other things (if thats you I am not making fun or looking down on you for that decision, it obviously takes great skill) I, however, I have chosen for my focus to be safety. **************************************** I give kudos to you for thinking about safety but someday as you get more experience and more comfortable in our sport you will likely move on to things with more risk. (larger formations, vertical moves, wing suits and maybe even swooping) People can be swoopers and still mitigate a lot of the added risk. I love swooping but I choose when and where to do it. When I'm at my home DZ I swoop on most of my jumps but when I go to other DZs I pull back dramatically especially when there is more traffic in the air. When I do swoop at other DZs I pick landing areas that are less congested. Yes, even when it means a longer walk. I swoop because I enjoy it. I swoop for me, not for the crowd. Besides there is always someone better than me to "wow the crowd". I also pick the brains of people I trust to have a higher knowledge of swooping. As you grow in this sport, know this: being safe and managing risk is about making choices, finding mentors and making as many jumps as you possibly can. Mentors do not have to be instructors they just have to be knowledgeable and have the willingness to spread that wealth. Good luck and Be Safe Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  16. Well the Dr said he could place the box in such a way that the wires would be less likely to be affected and that he could put the box in some deeper tissue to be less uncomfortable with the harness. But he warned that there is always a possiblity that the openings could affect the pace maker or leads. He said that some patients could actually go several hours or even days without much notice that the pacemaker wasn't working properly while others may be in trouble in a matter of minutes. Life is a risk...... Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  17. I see that Iowa is on your list for a 60 way FS however it is not on the USPA site. I'm just curious. Do you list records on your site even if they aren't official with USPA? Don't get me wrong, I know the 60 way happened because I was a part of it. But I don't think it was ever sent in to USPA. Just wondering. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  18. Actually the 2K helmet comes with the new button cutaway system already installed. There are ratchets on both sides and the excess hides away into the chin cup. Also they will install the Cameye (or Hypeye) if you order it along with the helmet. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  19. My son-in-law is an electrophysiologist (heart Dr.) And he specializes in pacemakers. I'll be talking with him at Thanksgiving dinner. I'll see if he would meet that request by a patient. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  20. Once you get your shoulder figured out and you get deeper into the sport you should consider getting a rig set up with a "left hand pull". There are quite a few people in our sport who have done this. It's a simple thing to make a left hand pouch for the throw out pilot chute. Good luck. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  21. In Deland contact Robert Chromy or Solly Williams they both have houses that they use to rent out rooms. Usually to teams but they will also rent to individuals. Probaly around $20.00 per night. Both great people and very easy to work with. PM me for their contact info. Sandy Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  22. skydive naked during the winter? **************************** Is it cold out, or are you just un-happy to see me? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  23. You can tell Winter is about to set in. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
