Psst, Tim, the WAN connects to the cable modem, not the uplink.... Andrea. Power off the computer, then unplug the router and cable modem from the wall. Connect big 8 wire phone type cord between computer and router #1. Connect big 8 wire phone type cord between WAN on router and the cable modem. Make sure cable modem is still hooked up to the cable tv wire stuff. Plug in cable modem, and wait until all the lights are working. Plug in router, and also wait until all lights are working. At least till the #1 light is lit, then a few extra seconds.... Turn on computer. Done. If it doesn't work, try again, same thing, but in #2. Or #3. Or #4. Yes and no, though not a true hardware firewall, it does make it a bit more interesting to find your computer on the net. (Don't worry, I'm not going to get technical, I'd just lose ya.) LOL, that's not simple! What part on my tower goes in the 1,2,3,4 slots? What Iwan said. The network card in the towers go to the 1,2,3, and 4 ports of the router. This can be found by looking for the plug that looks like a big phone cord, but with 8 wires instead of 2-4.
