  1. I posted in the classifieds, but I figured I'd post in here for people that don't look in there.
  2. I had some pain earlier this year, and after talking to my doctor about it, he recommended taking some Afrin nasal spray before jumping that day. It worked great, and after a couple months, I found I didn't need it anymore.
  3. They've got a nice racetrack just west of town where I've taken my sportbike to a few times. Other than the Motel6 and restaurants, I can't offer much
  4. Oh balderdash! They understand perfectly well when it suits them! As do the Italians and the French. Oh and btw...Airspeed scored a 34 in round 3 and is currently in first (up by 4 points)followed by the Russians and Deland Fire which are tied for second. Figures They probably just didn't trust that newfangulled GPS thingamabob and a pilot that's dropped a couple thousand loads over SDA. I must say it's damn impressive that SDA can run 3 twin otters and a skyvan all at the same time while doing hot loads without having jumpers running into each other. More than once I saw one otter take off to the North and then another otter coming South touch down not 30 seconds later. It was a little annoying though that they waited to fire up the two other otters until the first one was backed up 4 loads deep.
  5. I'm waiting for it to replace my current Altimaster.
  6. They seemed pretty cool. I saw them taking time to talk with some fans after they landed, even before they had time to take off their gear.
  7. I was thinking about that as well. I talked to a couple of the local camera fliers this weekend, and I think I'm just going to use a strap over the accessory shoe and use gaffer's tape on the viewfinder and between the lens and camera body.
  8. So I'm sitting in the Otter at 7500 ft waiting for the Russian 4-way CREW guys to jump, and they don't get out when the green light goes on. They just keep staring out at the spot. So the pilot turns off the jump light, and starts going around. The pilot tells me to tell the Russians that we need to wait for another plane to drop before going back on jump run for them, but it turns out they don't understand any english. It's at that point I realize I'm in an airplane in the middle of Arizona and the pilot and I are the only Americans on the plane I'm jumping with a Scotsman, there's the Italian 8-way team, the Brazilian women's 4-way team, the Russian 4-way CREW team, and some european skysurf team. Pretty cool
  9. 3:5:0 Three 2-way sit jumps and two 3-way sit jumps. Good times
  10. I keep earplugs in my helmet for Skyvan loads. Damn that plane is loud! The Otter isn't so bad, so I usually don't bother. My dad's a pilot, and he has high frequency hearing loss. Apparently it's pretty common in that profession.
  11. The floater bar on a King Air stole my altimeter I look over to it in freefall and still have the wrist strap and plastic ring around my finger on, but the only thing between them is a flat piece of plastic.
  12. Yep. I'm going to be the old fart in the retirement home trying to show people my logbooks and tell stories about when I was a young whipper snapper
  13. I went through a spell of just putting down JAJ (Just Another Jump) or JAFJ, but now I realize it's nice to be able to read about and remember what I was doing a decade ago. So at the very least it's what kind of jump and who I was jumping with. Later, I'll try to fill in some more information after I get back from the DZ that night. Stuff like what I learned, what I should work on, and anything else that I can learn from or will help me remember the jump in the future. Often it's the people, not the jumps, that are worth remembering. I made five jumps this weekend with a guy visiting from Scotland and another from Florida, so I wrote down who they were and a little about them when I got home. I went to get a logbook signature when I first got back into the sport this year, and it was interesting to hear the opinions of a group of newer jumpers on logging. A few said they didn't bother anymore. Some others said they'll just log the entire days worth of jumps onto one line with data from their ProTrack. I can somewhat see their point if they're making 500 jumps a year, as most of the individual jumps probably aren't that special anymore.

  15. The rigger down in Eloy (Dennis) has a picture of him taking a pig on a tandem. It was dead though, and I belief he said they had a nice BBQ with it.
  16. Well that's good news! When you first mentioned it was a $500 repair, I decided that I'm never taking any camera equipment apart
  17. I've got a TRV22 I'm going to be top mounting. Will a tripod screw keep it secure? Is a strap really necessary? Should I just go buy some webbing and a fastex clip and make one myself? Do most people use one or two straps? I'm going to either buy or make a dbox in the near future, but I'm looking for a solution for the next couple weeks.
  18. http://www.awfulplasticsurgery.com/archives/005464.html Ya think?
  19. Remember those stories of crippled old ladies lifting a car with one hand to rescue their children? Adrenaline is your friend, and I guarantee you'll have enough to overcome some muscle soreness to pull.
  20. I used to jumpmaster S/L students, and a common thing I saw on PRCP's was students dipping their left shoulder when turning their heads to look at the ripcord. The more you turn your head to the side, the more likely that your body will follow. Think about using your periphial vision instead of trying to stare directly at the ripcord. As always, talk to your instructors about it.
  21. Well, quite a few Otters were configured as float planes initially. In any case, they would make me a little nervous if I was jumping a wingsuit.
  22. I got to make a few jumps with it this weekend, and it's brought down the speed in my neutral sit from the mid 150's in shorts and a t-shirt to the mid 140's. This suit rocks! I figure if I ever need to speed this suit up, the arms and legs could be shortened. Right now the cuffs go about 6 inches past my wrists and ankles, so they could be shorted for less bag.
  23. My wife even asked me if I should put on shoes for the picture But damn, it's 100 degrees out!
