What if you had to give up skydiving?
outlawphx replied to AFFI's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've been sitting here for a couple minutes trying to write a response, and the best I can offer is my good vibes for a successful surgery. "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face." -Eleanor Roosevelt -

Thanks for the info everyone. Tracking out of it sounds like a good thing to try, and I'm going to try back tracking if it happens again. I knew that if I could get back on my belly I'd have no problem stopping the spin. I guess it was after seeing that wingsuit video (that I immediately thought of when I was spinning on my back) that made me nervous, but I guess there was more going on related to the wingsuit.

I hate to post a newbie question, but... So I have heard about the infamous "side spin" with Tandems, and I recently saw this video on skydive movies showing a person going into a "side spin" (flat spin?) on a wingsuit jump (here). Now this weekend I was goofing around sitflying with another jumper, and I did a poor cartwheel (fast) that ended up dumping me on my back as I came back around and it put me into a spin on my back. So I went with in for a couple seconds. Now my backflying skills are pretty limited, but I couldn't stop the spin and it seemed to be speeding up (probably 2 revolutions a second). I rolled over on my belly and had to counter hard to stop it. My question is when a spin like that develops, is there more than just body position that keeps it going? (i.e. like an ice skater pulling their arms in and increasing a spin) Also... With a tandem side spin, is it so dangerous because the tandem master's ability to counter a spin is limited by the passenger on the front or is there something else going on?

The voodoo only comes big enough to hold a 170, so it may or may not be a good first container for you. The Talon FS has the same harness will a little different shape container, and it does fit larger canopies. In any case, I have a voodoo v3 with a Sabre2 150 and a Smart 150 in it. It's been a great rig for me. I haven't had any flaps or covers open up while freeflying, and it stays put on my back.

I jump a TRV22 top mounted in a bonehead d-box on a bonehead optik, and I think jtval is jumping the same setup. It's been working great for me.

If I understand correctly, many of their chutes are sewn together down there, and then shipped back to Florida for inspection before sale.

Well, I'm D-15712 and the only round jump I had was with a round reserve. -

What I am talking about is the amount of liners that we can put in a particular size shell, not the shims in that liner. Glad it all worked out. Be safe and share some of your photos. Will do Thanks for all your help Linda! -
The guy back and sitflying looked pretty damn smooth

What is the scariest thing you ever saw a student do?
outlawphx replied to noluckned's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I watched one of my freefall students (S/L progression) take his 5 second delay to 20 seconds. 20 seconds gives you a lot of time to think about your student It went something like this... -On the strut. -Go! -Nice arch. -Looking stable. -OK, look for the ripcord. -Pull anytime now. -OK, now you're just being greedy for freefall time. -WTF? -I'm going to fail your ass for this. -Pull damnit! -Crap! I lost sight of him in the ground clutter. -God I hope I callibrated his AAD correctly (Sentinel with a 300ft differential between the airport and landing area) -Canopy deploying -Thank god! At least I dropped him from 5-5.5k, just in case Edited to add: I've seen some students do some scary stuff and hurt themselves as well, but that's no fun to talk about -
That sometimes happens, but the moderators usually do a good job of controlling that.

It's pretty easy. I got sucked into building machines for family and friends since the mid 90's, but now I just tell them to call Dell The hardest part is dealing with any hardware conflicts and driver incompatibilities that may arise. That's the nice part about ordering from a vendor like Dell, IBM, etc, and since margins are so thin nowdays, it's not really cheaper to build your own (unless your picking up used parts)

What's the price of your camera(s)? ltdiver Well, with the payout on my homeowner's policy would pay for a nice side mountable model Actually, the helmet is not coming off now. Taking off another top shim put my head further up in the bucket, the ladder straps on the inside are holding the chin cup closer, and someone here mentioned checking that the chin cup might be upside down (and it was). -

I took another pad out of the top of the helmet and moved the chin straps to the inside. It won't come off backwards now, so it's not going anywhere. I'm still tempted to get a medium though, since it's too wide to side mount a new camera in the future. I did talk to Ash, and I tried on their medium over at Square 2. It fit nice and snug, and that's what I thought I was getting when I bought my current helmet. Question is, is it worth the $100 loss I'd take on my current Optik to get something with a little slimmer profile... -

It does have 4 inserts. Maybe the guy I bought it from added another one
