  1. I don't find it any more difficult than most other ZP canopies to pack. But my other canopy's a triathalon, and not many ZPs are as friendly to pack As far as deflation on the ground - that is a skill you have to acquire when you first buy an airlock. It won't just deflate, and if there's more than 10 MPH wind on the ground, it can be a small hassle. It takes some practice to learn how to deal with it. But it's not that hard - run behind it, push down the slider and daisy-chain, or grab the tail. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  2. 1:7:0 Canuck has already pointed out that weather has been mixed, and I would like to add that the last few weeks, if it hasn't been the weather, it's been the planes breaking. But persistence is the key. I was there early Saturday and stayed until 9 PM tonight, braving several weather-related shutdowns, squeaking in jumps in between short rainstorms and gusty periods, settling for 6,000 at one point for low clouds, and being rained on the whole canopy ride once or twice. What I won't do to jump Riddle me this - if you pack a wet canopy in an arid environment (like Denver) and let it set a few weeks before you jump it, will it get moldy? 3. This is a different blind jumper. She wears two audibles and likes them to beep at higher altitudes so she knows were she is. But a lot of audibles are only capable of sounding up to 7,000 feet or so. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  4. Heelloooo - catapult Don't need to worry much about runway length with that thing. Just add a hook to the bottom of the Otter and fling it like a used booger. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  5. Hey - I think the calendar is on my side today! Last repack on Jan 30th. Jan and Mar have 31 days, but Feb has only 28, so the today should be exactly 120 days since my last repack. Am I wrong? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  7. My repack expires today, and I am considering going to the DZ to jump. Can I jump it today, or not? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

    Airborne Brothel

I think it has to do with controlled space. The US controls all land and sea out to a few miles off-shore. After that you are in international waters, and not subject to US law (but you are subject to international law - i.e. piracy, et al). I think airspace is different, since we control a vertical column of air straight up from our borders. I don't think you are exempt from, for instance, US Law if you are flying over US territory. 9. June Parachutist (page 18) reports prices of the Cypress 2 at $35 more than the original Cypress, according to Airtec. If they are being sold for more than that, then the dealers are ripping you off (IMO). Considering how excited everyone seems to be about them, how new they are, and there probably aren't a lot available yet, business are likely marking up prices (supply/demand). 10. I own a Lotus 150, but I've never jumped a Sabre2. The planforms on the two are nearly identical, according to Brian Germaine. In the end, you should just demo them - ask your BigAir rep - they can set you up. And if you do, let us know how they compare. I will say this about my Lotus - it is a very nice canopy. Since they are such similar planforms, the question is do you want airlocks? Brian has lowered the price on his canopies, so they should be about the same price. The Airlocks will add more pack volume. You will probably feel bumps more in the Lotus because (IMO) the wing stays more rigid. Personally, I hate turbulence, and I try to avoid turbulent conditions, but I derive a greater sense of security when I'm in it with airlocks over my head. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  11. I have trouble with faces. White people with short hair all look alike to me. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  12. That's a good idea. P2P makes more sense for community sharing anyway. If we precede all filenames with "skydiving", so as to be able to filter them from all the other movies. It would also be easier to search for them. Edit - I just had a thought that there may not be enough skydivers with skydiving movies running machines all day to make it easy to find them. Anyone know what happened to ftp.skydivingmovies.com? I missed that drama. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  13. I thought it was Cypher too, but I'm not that good with faces. My g/f said it was the guy that was sneaking up on Neo with the knife, and that made more sense. Now that Jasmin has posted that he is in various parts of the movie, I'll have to see it again. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  14. Much better. Oh, I wish I was an Oscar-Meyer weiner! Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  15. The cool thing about packing is that it gets more interesting Just wait 'till you start on zero-p canopies - slippery little fellas. Then you have to start with the collapsable slider and cocking the pilot chute (and since Skymama's mind is finally in the gutter with the rest of us, no, that isn't a sex reference). Nice to see you're learning a new trade during your unemployment. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

    Busted!

When people ask why we call them "asshats", we can say they need something next to their assholes, because they don't have any balls. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

    Busted!

Funny - I proposed that same thing last year: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=321347;search_string=whuffo;#321347 Of the words on this thread, I like "asshat" the best
  18. I have heard the opposite - that rolling the nose produces more off-heading openings. Can you elaborate with any data, or is this just based on your experience? And if so, what canopies? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  19. We love showing the vid to tandems students at my home DZ. I was standing behind one, when he first saw it, and his remark was something like: "Whoa - that is one hairy dude" Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

    Gigantic feet??

So it's true! Everything really is bigger in Texas Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  21. Good point, indyz. I'm thinking most people considering a Digitude will be willing to pay the extra $50 for the smaller alti with all the extra features. This may be bad for Altitude Concepts. Personally, I hope there's room for everyone in the market, but I think they will have to come out with a newer, better product to compete. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  22. Hook wrote a nice piece on how to check your trim, as well as information about how often to do it, and some useful tidbits abut materials, etc. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  23. Bonehead mindwarp. You will want to get the chin-cup to get it fastened to your face tight (about $35 USD). Then you will want to get a camera mount. You are a free-flyer, after all. Gotta have video. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Thanks Cajones for putting that together. And thanks kevin922 for arranging the nice tribute in Parachutist this month. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
