Canuck - have you been to any Canadian DZs? I don't think I heard about that - you'll have to tell me about it. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I was going to make this a poll, but I realized there was more than just a handful of reasons to choose from OK - I admit that I don't actually hate Canadians. Most of the ones I've met are freaks, and I like freaks a lot, so I get along with them OK. They are generally good people. But I'll tell you one thing I hate about Canadians. Every time I talk to them about Canada, the first thing they say is always "it's like the US, only better." Then they proceed to go on about how their socialized medicine is better. Or that their two cultures (French and English) is way better than the hundreds that are in the US. Or that their hockey players that all play in the US are not originally from the US. Every time I hear a Canadian talk about how much better they are, I just want to scream "get oot of my hoose!" Now, I ask you - does anyone from the US say "it's like Egypt, only better", or "it's like Japan, only better"? No. Why would we? If you're comparing yourself to anyone, it implies you have some feeling that they are better, so just admit it and move on. Hope I'm not getting anyone too riled up. It's all in good fun Please feel free to post with what you hate most about Canadians, and let's all try to remember the "no personal attacks" rule. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I don't think we could ever speculate that. It would be impossible for anyone to say what Holly saw, or thought she saw, except Holly.

Stop whining. You know how many Phils skydive? It beats the shit out of Eddie, I can tell you that. Half the people at the DZ call me Riddler now, just 'cause its easier Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

How should icidents be discussed in the INCIDENT forum?
riddler replied to lewmonst's topic in The Bonfire
To keep it simple: 1. The incidents forum should be for facts, official report and first hand information. Questions about facts seem like they should be OK to me, just to clarify. But not to speculate. 2. There is absolutely nothing wrong with discussion. Cajones has stated this several times, but I don't think people are reading his statements. Please discuss on other forums, not on incidents. Incidents is where we can look (not ask) for the latest info. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -
On the second load, the repellers started climbing out at about 4,000. I went out at 5.3. Good 10 seconds free-fall - had to dump at 3.5 after seeing an open canopy at about 3. Sniveled through to about 2.5. Landed a bit east of the runway, but was careful to avoid Farmer McNasty's. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Somehow I can't see my body getting lost in the confusion: "approx 30 yr old male, 6 feet, 170 pounds, blue hair ..." Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

The logic(?) I have heard behind this is that if it is a patch of turbulence, you just get through it faster. I don't know how logical that is. I do know I don't like turbulence and I like to get it over with as quick as possible. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

One of my favorite childhood memories was of my uncle stuffing thick paper into my shoes so that I would be tall enough for all the rides

Here is the reason I don't sign that. If you read the fine print on the Colorado one, it says "organ donation OR medical research". I did some further investigating and found that a number of corpses go to medical schools for dissection. I know it's silly, but that gives me the willies. If I go in skydiving, ya'll can let my family know that I want my organs and tissue donated (if possible), but NOT for medical research. I've already told them, but they are an emotional bunch and I don't trust them to react with clear thinking if that happens I need to get off my lazy butt and put it in writing as well. It would be nice to think that I could help save other people's lives. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Yea - and WFFC was one of the repellers! FlyAngel2 was another I saw the video of myself falling off, but I didn't get it firewired to my camera! Doh! Great fun, balloons! I'd like to learn a little more about normal repelling (including, maybe how to spell it?) before trying it off of a balloon though. Let us now when you come out! We will try to show you a good time. K - yes, I was on the second load. Dr. Bill and I hopped off on opposite sides at the same time. I noticed we were stopping a lot of traffic on Hover Road. Must be an interesting sight for whuffos. Seeing a hot-air balloon, noticing people hang from ropes on the sides, and then watching people chuck themselves out Edited to say - sorry to see you go! But I hope you're all settled in now and we'll see you at WFFC! Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

That wasn't our balloon from two weekends ago, was it Michael? I know it's Longmont, but the balloon doesn't look like I remember. I was cool watching the repellers hang off the side!! They videod all our exits. They have video of me falling off backwards screaming "OH MY GOD!" Next time I'll get even further from those burners!! Hot, hot, hot! The first time in my life I wish I was shorter Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I saw a flyer for that posted on my DZ bulletin board. Let us know how it goes. Sounded like a sweet gig. Good rates, nice weather (barring hurricanes). The only thing that could make that bad is a bad DZ. Hope it works out. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Great post, Bill. I especially like #4. Most of the bad jumps I've had come from trying to do too many new things on one jump. I try to do one new thing, and only one new thing, on every jump, but there are plenty of jumps when I'm content to just do the things I've done before. I try to keep in mind that I have *thousands* of skydives ahead of me. I'm not in any hurry to be the best right now. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I think this is about half of the problem. A lot of people don't know what URL means. If it could be changed to "link" or "clicky". Clicky isn't much help for newbies - "link" would probably be better or even "weblink". Oh yea - URL = Uniform Resource Locator Edited to add - I think your color scheme is lovely, HH. It reflects your giving personality and magnanimous nature. . Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Congrats. That is one of the coolest exit pics I've ever seen. Not from a skydivers perspective - from a whuffo's perspective. Just all the people strung together out the plane. I'm using it as my new desktop

I agree with BillVon here - I have a home network of various laptops, and Vaio's are better than IBM, Dell, Gateway, et al. Toshiba is a close second IMO Also, the CD-ROM can be swapped out for a second battery ($150) to double your battery life. UBid.com has some great deals on all laptops, including Vaio.
