  1. Only you could say that and make me laugh I'm surprised that the thread has gone on this long. It's good for those of us that are kind of lazy about getting in before the lock. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  2. Better to be at the dropzone wishing you had a job than at work wishing you were at the dropzone. At least, I think that's how the ol' saying goes Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  3. Mile-Hi in Longmont, CO has a main landing area (which I avoid), as well as a separate "high-performance" area (which I also avoid). A few rules about the two areas. If you are doing 180 degree hook or more, do it in the high-performance area. But you must talk with experienced swoopers at the DZ before landing there. If you are doing less than a 180 degree hook, stay out of the high-performance area. And no crossing the high-performance area below 1,000 feet (same as the runway) for non-swoopers. Personally, I don't hook or swoop and I stay out of both areas. I choose my target from 1,000 feet, and it is out of the main landing area. I've already found some cool shit landing out in the sticks
  4. Just to clarify - you don't have to swim laps or do flip turns. If you can jump in the water with a harness on, kick down and away from the harness (only a few feet), kick back up to the surface, and dog-paddle to the side of the pool, you will probably pass water training. Many people that can't swim are capable of this - I can't swim myself, but I passed without a problem. Don't ask about my SCUBA training All these people talking about jumping in a lake. Brrrr. I went in a heated pool and after that we played on the water slide and sat in the jacuzzi. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

    eeeeewwww

So, I'm a little confused. Why use a dating service when you have the dropzone? If I was a cute skychick, I would take full advantage of the male/female ratio.
  6. Completely disagree with this. People that hook are generally the same as other skydivers. Yes, there are some extreme ones that disregard safety, but those are the minority. It takes a lot of skill and practice to perform hook turns, and those that choose to do it are usually as safety oriented, and many of them MORE safety oriented than the average jumper. I should state that I do not swoop or hook. As far as avoiding them, as well as all other pilots, I intentionally land away from the main landing area. This doesn't mean I let my guard down, but I think it decreases my odds of any canopy collision. Yes, I have to walk a little further, but it's not as long as the ride to the hospital. At the first meeting of the Colorado Canopy Pilots Association, it was proposed that the 1,000 foot no-fly zone over the runway be extended to include the high-performance landing area for non-swoopers (which is not far from the runway). It seems like a good idea to me to give the swoopers their own place to play. We will see how it works at Mile-Hi. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  8. It's not that, it's just unlikely that a 21' block of dry ice could fit through the door. And even more unlikely that he could climb it. And no way in Hell could he move it himself - too heavy too much bulk. Plus with all the smoke vapor spilling out the door, you would figure it out when you opened. The door on the ceiling is far more likely Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  9. You didn't exclude that possibility, so I am right. Sorry Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  10. The door is on the ceiling?? It could happen Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  11. 0:7:0 At the DZ all weekend for the Casa boogie. Weather wasn't great until Sunday, but still managed to get in 7 Casa loads. Brought a case that was owed for balloon jumps the previous month. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  12. Same here - failed level 3 twice. Went to wind tunnel. Came back and passed all remaining levels. Can't wait for the new ones to be built.
  13. Wow - we're really getting to the "B" movies now. Ed - how about "I no yanky my wanky"
  14. Oh yeah! I forgot that line
  15. The first one - Sudden Impact
  16. 'sOK - I had to cut and paste from a web site - I couldn't remember all the items exactly. Here's a hint for the rest of you - Peter Sellers played three different characters in this Stanley Kubrick movie.
  17. Don't remember the title exactly: Leaving Las Vegas? ... Still awaiting a response to my quote above ... Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  19. Clerks. Edited: "One .45 caliber automatic. Two boxes of ammunition. Four days' concentrated emergency rations. One drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills. One miniature combination Russian (pronounced 'Rooshan') phrase book and Bible. One hundred dollars in rubles. One hundred dollars in gold. Nine packs of chewing gum. One issue of prophylactics. Three lipsticks. Three pair of nylon stockings. Shoot, a fella could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff" Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  20. I think it's a lot like the SOS system. People can debate for ages whether it is better or not better, but it comes down to the fact that you don't see them that much. Most skydiving gear has throw-out BOC, and that's kind of what people expect. I can't say I don't like the pull-out, but I can say I've never used one. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  21. I think you could make even more money by charging to eat pudding off of Skymama
  22. As a skydiver, I don't always assume the pilot is right. The incident that happened that I mentioned above was a very experienced skydiver and a new pilot. The pilot turned on green light, but was not properly trimmed. Pilot error, IMO. I've been front float on a few exits watching the pilot roll relative to the horizon, which freaks me out. I was unable to relay that info to the jumpers behind me, so in the end we had to jump anyway. This needs to be a combination of pilot and jumper procedure - both need to be doing things right to make it safe.
  23. Not anymore - she's unemployed as of last Friday.
  24. I've done about 100 jumps from King Air. I actually had a friend hit the tail, but it was combination of errors - pilot was rolling and climbing, and jumper was jumping WAY out. Hit the back of his head on the tail. He was OK - wearing a helmet, got a bad concussion and left a nice dent in the tail. If procedures are followed for the pilot, there's little chance of a tailstrike. The tail on the Pak looks a LOT closer to the door than the King Air, but maybe it's just a misperception. I think I'll wait a while to jump one to see if it's a problem.
  25. Cripes! I heard that thing had a low tail, but from the pic, it looks plain scary! Is anyone else worried about hitting the tail, or is it just me? Other than that, it's nice to see a aircraft that has a specific mod for skydiving
