  1. both eugene and skydive oregon are pretty good places. eugene is right off the freeway so even if you can't stop by you'll still be able to see us from the road(look for the orange vx coming in that's me). we got some pretty cool people at the dz and if you're there after 5pm during the week i'll be out there. skydive oregon is a little further off the beatin path but have great facilities and cool people as well. cant' really go wrong with either place in my opinion. both are probably considered small dz's compared to most socal dz's but sdo does have an otter and eugene has 182's during the week and usually a caravan on the weekends. hope to see ya out there Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  2. thought i'd make it a little easier for people to find good info about canopy flight in all aspects. hopefully this thread will grow a little bit with people added some more links that i don't know about. by the way there was a great article on skydive arizonas website about a year ago but now i can't find it. anybody know what i'm talking about and know hwere it is? if you're interested in learning about canopy flight in all aspects try going to these links. if you have questions about what you're reading maybe some people will chime in and help out. http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/98_low.pdf http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/choosing1.pdf http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/choosing2.pdf http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/flylnd.pdf http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/survival.pdf http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/wingload.pdf http://www.icaruscanopies.aero/choosing.htm http://www.lerc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/bga.html http://www.bigairsportz.com/basoman.pdf check the table of contents on this one for what you're looking. please add more... 6. when i'm asked a question, i give the best/ most accurate possible answer i can give. however, people can be given all the knowledge in the world but it doesn't mean shit unless people apply their newly found knowledge. (please re-read this over and over again until you comprehend this statment. Do you honestly apply what you have just been told?) I have given out tons of information, stuff that will not only save their lives but will also dramatically improve their performance when it comes to canopy piloting and swooping. however, only a few of them have actually put this knowledge to use and are now literally flying past those that have the same information but chose to ignore it, not use it, or never really took the information in. basically, if you ask the question we can only give you 50% of what you need even if the answer is spot on. the other 50% (or more) comes from you applying this information. Just a side note, take all information with a grain of salt and learn from as many people as possible. this is just my .02 on how to reach the invincibles I have been guilty of this as well from time to time, not listening to people, but once i put everthing aside and told my self i knew nothing, that is when i actually started to open my ears and mind about this stuff. 10. i don't know what size round it was but it was coming down a lot faster than a square reserve would have. from what i hear the student cut a 300 sq ft main away because of a broken stearing line, now personally i think she would have landed a lot softer even if she didn't flair or do anything with that 300 over her head instead of that 22, 24, or 26. and what kind of gear do they have if they let student gear get to the point where a stearing line breaks at such a low loading. on landing she was going backwards, there were about 10kt winds when she was landing personnaly i think this dz is going to hurt all dz's in the area. 17. there was a show on the discovery channel a while back researching the speeds they can obtain and it was awesome. they basically took apart a neptune and put only the essential components on the bird and they finally found out that this bird could top 240+ mph!!! it was kind of cool because they were having it chase a toy out of a c-182 from 10k and they thought it could only go 160mph cause they thought it was having trouble staying up with the toy, but they later found out that it was having troubly slowing down for it. They had some one going head down to video and keept up with it pretty well, but then all of a sudden the bird just turned on the afterburners and there was no way he could react that fast and keep up. cool thing is the bird started to come out of that dive at like 100' and was flying straight and level by like 50' or something. now that's a swoop! 18. skybarge 300 ----> xbraced sub 100 in 20 jumps, that should be pretty good. just kidding my thought process is that there is no text book canopy progression because people are not text book. some do and learn things quicker/slower than others, the feel of a canopy can be totally different depending on the person even if it's the same exact canopy. plus, a persons canopy goals are different for everyone, some want to survive freefall, some want to explore canopy flight to the fullest, just depends on what the person wants. however, i guess we can generalize. start with a big square canopy, after this it's anybodies guess on what would be text book. just my .02 Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  23. So the NWCPC had their 3rd meet at Skydive Snohomish in Washington this weekend with great success. This meet showed the biggest turn out so far with 10 competitors including 2 pro pilots Eldon Burrier and Luke Aikins of team XAOS. The day started out questionable at best with heavy mist/ rain, but in true NW fashion the sky broke around 2pm and the game was on. We started this competition with distance and it set the pace for a great day. This event was very tight up until the begining of round 2 of distance where the current NWCPC points leader Tom Phillips busted a huge personal and regional record of 366'. The only other competitor to go over 300' was Luke Aikins at 304'. Accuracy was next and again proved to be some of the most enternaining rounds of the competition. competitors now had to deal with a slight down wind push which developed during the course set up. a few people scored zero's in the accuracy course which effectively put them out of the running for top spots. Speed was last but proved how much everyone had improved over the season already. At this event only 3 people had gate strikes compared to almost everyone at the first meet and nearly half at the 2nd. Luke Aikins and Eldon Burrier also provided great information and experiences on how to fly the course and what they saw some of the advanced competitors doing. With this new knowledge there were again regional record times going through the speed course, with many people being under the 3.0 second mark. The knowledge gained at this last meet from both Eldon Burrier, who placed 2nd overall at NWCPC event 2, and Luke Aikins was priceless and helped out all advanced competitors greatly. Along with this knowledge the 3 top winners also recieved cash and prizes from: Infinity Performance Designs Alti-2 Body Sport USA Opening Shock and, Hop N' Pop productions I would also like to thank our chief judge Scott R and the rest of our judges: Bryan J, Paul, Crystal, and Charlie, for making this event happen. They did a great job again. Below are all the individual results and the next meet will be held at Eugene Skydivers on August 13/14th. Congratulations to our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners; Tom Phillips, Daniel Self, and Bryan Gile. See you all at the next meet! *=Guest Overall: 1st: Tom Phillips xaos *Luke Aikins xaos *Eldon Burrier xaos 2nd: Dan Self velocity 3rd: Bryan Gile vx 4th: Stuart Schoenfeld vx 5th: Luke Nevin xaos 6th: Todd Higgley xaos 7th: Rob Irwin vx 8th: Steve Schierberl katana Distance: *Luke Aikins- 261, 304 *Eldon Burrier- 254, 253 Tom Phillips- 156, 366 Luke Nevin- 269, 190 Stuart Schoenfeld- 191, 290 Dan Self- 236, 224 Steve Schierberl- 144, 210 Todd Higgley- 166, 171 Bryan Gile- 0, 224 Rob Irwin- 213, 0 Accuracy: Tom Phillips- 45, 53 *Luke Aikins- 20, 49 Dan Self- 28, 37 Bryan Gile- 33, 24 *Eldon Burrier- 28, 29 Luke Nevin- 16, 21 Stuart Schoenfeld- 0, 32 Todd Higgley- 0, 18 Rob Irwin- 15, 0 Steve Schierberl- 0, 0 Speed: *Luke Aikins- 2.47, 2.17 Tom Phillips- 2.73, 2.53 *Eldon Burrier- 2.90, 2.70 Bryan Gile- 2.73, 2.97 Todd Higgley- 3.83, 3.30 Stuart Schoenfeld- 7.90, 2.57 Dan Self- 8.17, 3.30 Luke Nevin- 7.97, 3.53 Steve Schierberl- 30.00, 30.00 Rob Irwin- 30.00, 30.00 Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
