last year most of the guys in our region (NW) were flying xbraced, and we had everything: xaos, vx, and velo's. we had 1 competitor on a katana 97 as well who did pretty damn good. this year i'm guessing we'll see some jvx's as well. as far as who's going to colorado, i know i am. ok, i'm totally confused. how are people are making judgements on which canopy is better for groundlaunching even though they haven't flown both the nano or glx, or maybe even either of the 2 canopies being discussed here? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
-
i know my xfire 97 very rarely got tail flutter, along with my vx. really only certain times when doing crw with those canopies. i do think they are more prone to tail flutter though, and for a couple of reasons some of which have already been stated. but also, look at your d-lines. they have a little more slack than some other canopies in it's same class, which contributes to the lighter rear riser pressure and tail flutter. just make sure your lines are in good shape and that they are in trim, if it still happens on a regular basis i would have it checked out. also, i would like to add the optimal wingloadings for canopies can change person to person. my 97 i felt was best @ 1.8 or so, a friend of mine who has a substatially larger xfire loads his at about 2.0 and he loves it there. hope that helps. worlds longest swoop from a plane across flat ground?
superstu replied to rhys's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
ian drennan went out of the speed course in colorado. it wasn't the fastest but it was funny. does that count? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down -
i started jumping at snohomish which is a little north of seattle, and the winters kinda suck. but that kind of goes for the NW in general not just the seattle area. i live in oregon now and we've had a ton of rain this year. however, i know a lot of the core jumpers and people of the DZ's both in Oregon and Washington and they are 2nd to none. you'll have a great new family up here if you decide to make it your home. send me a PM if you want to know more....stu Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

would you fly video in CO just for a cool pond to train at?
superstu replied to pope's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
i'm pretty much on the same boat as ian. it seems you've got to be nearly perfect to have a nice swoop when you're at or close to sea level. but yes, going from a 500' MSL to a 5000' MSL was a "little" different and very fun. gotta love mile-hi! on a side note, how's the CPC Championships and GO FAST video coming along? any release dates? VSE, makers of the Infinity, makes probably the highest quality of container out there today. no matter what your discipline is it WILL keep you safe and do it's job, while mantaining a sleak appearance. the customer service at VSE is what sets these containers and company apart from any other company out there. they know the true meaning of how to take care of their customers. if you want quality customer service and a great quality product go with Infinity.

talked to andy the couple of days ago and he said that they've sold their property at kapow and have a big semi to transport all their stuff to the new location. from the sound of it it's gonna be a bad ass dz in the NW. big hanger, big runway, big landing area, and easier to get to. he didn't give me any dates on when they're gonna open though, they've probably gotta get everything set and organized, which i'm sure is not an easy task. i'm looking for some durable swoop pants to use on the CPC and possibly the PST circuit this year, which brand(s) do you guys think is a cut above the rest? i know going with moto-x pants will work but i'd rather support a skydiving company. any suggestions? and if any of you manufactures out there want your product on the CPC and PST circuits send me an email or PM as well. thanks...stu Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

Thoughts on CPC 'eligibility'
superstu replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Well i can tell you just some of the things he's done for me how about that? i live in the NW, which is across the country from you guys, and he's gone out of his way to give me calls and emails about advice to give to some new swoopers in this area and the advice he's given has been top notch. the stuff he's done for me and offered to do for me has all been very professionally approached and done without expecting anything in return. there's only a few people on these forums that i would trust to ask serious advice to and Ian is one of them. i hope some of you newer pilots out there have a chance to work with ian or at least talk with him. man you must be looking in the wrong direction then. in colorado, ian was giving advice to several competition guys a couple days before the competition. helping them with set-ups, power training, hitting the gates, ect., so how is this helping him out in any way? he's giving advice to his competition that he's competing against. he was doing these things because he saw that some of the people there might be able to benefit from his knowledge and i think they did. did they give him anything for these favors? i don't think so. did he expect anything for these favors? i doubt it. mark, you might fly at 'pro' level but your attitude is below amateur. this statement straight up pisses me off. As far as what i think needs to be done about the top 10 guys going pro or staying amature, well i think it's too early to tell. we've only had 1 year of the CPC and i'd like to see what happens if we didn't change anything for next year, because right now all these assumptions about 'ringers' and 'sandbaggers' are just that, assumptions. so my vote is to keep things the same but to take note of possible changes that might be needed for the future. of course these are just my .02 Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
