i jump full RDS all jumps unless i know i'm getting out below 4k. of course i don't do too much free fall any more, but i have taken mine terminal plenty of times and it works great. joe and mel make a really nice RDS from what i saw of a few peoples, however i went with a local guy here in the NW and it works great too. ian drennan could probably word it better and hopefully he'll step in if i butcher his term, but basically your 'roll out' picture is what you're seeing as you 'roll out' of your turn and come on heading toward your target when you're finishing your turn(i.e. gates, pond, ect). it's the picture you gain from doing your turn a thousand times (both physically and mentally)and being able to 'see' if you're good to go or a little low; and depending on what picture you're seeing at that split second then you react accordingly. you learn your 'roll out' picture in your early stages of swooping when you're doing double fronts and 90's (90% of the people probably skip through the basics too fast and never really learn their roll out picture until they've had a few accidents). then when you advance later on in your career to bigger turns that same 'roll out' picture you've engrained in your head when you were doing 90's is still there and you can recognize earlier and earlier in your set up if you're low or not and what 'tools' you'll need to utilize. ian, step in if I completely translated that wrong but hopefully that kind of made sense. if this video is something that you're consistantly doing i would take a step back and re-evaluate what you're doing and what you might need to work on. but that's just my .02 you did a good job of keeping your head after that first little skip, now just look back and honestly assess what you might change (NOT what you did wrong) for the next time. piece...stu Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

lack of recognition that you were low. let up on your fronts a tad sooner and make sure you have a good roll out picture. target fixation could have played a role in that as well, but you can only tell that. basic rule for water swooping is treat the water as ground, so make sure you're completely plained out before you put your foot down. hope this helps. CPC Championships and Go Fast Challenge Updates
superstu replied to swoopster33's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
we'll see about that bro...my plans are contingent on what the schedule looks like when it comes out in january/feb. to answer the original question though, i did do 2 rounds through the qualifying course as practice. i was just too physically and metally beat up after the comp to try real hard for it to be official. i thought the course was fun. i've posted a little 5 minute deal on skydivingmovies.com of some video i shot while i was at the CPC/GO-FAST event back in september. most of the pilots shown are amateurs, however, jay's distance record is on there along with tidbits of everything that went on that week. this footage is really the tip of the ice burg as well, i'm also putting together a NWCPC film as well and the preview should be out soon as well. the NWCPC film will have stuff from all 5 regional competitions plus extra stuff on there from this years crazy antics. to see last years stuff do a search on skydivingmovies.com for "section 8" and that'll give you an idea of what's in store for this year. the most recent movie should be posted pretty soon if it hasn't be posted already. hope you guys like it. great memories, can't wait for next year! movie is titled "2005 CPC/GO-FAST..." see ya...stu Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

CPC Championships and Go Fast Challenge Updates
superstu replied to swoopster33's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
will we be able to buy this, or is he still going to put it on OLN? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down -
if there is no effect then why would pro's, who are paid to do well in competitions and push the limits, do this? it has to do with your center of gravity under the parachute. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

Alright, this will be a little tough to explain online but i'll try and put in my .02 think of it this way, you are a pedullum(sp) under your canopy. when you do a regular flare or when other people come straight in and flare, which way does their body swing compared to the canopy? you swing forward right? so your body is now more toward the front of the canopy and your canopy has a higher angle of attack (AoA), which means you have lift (unless you have too high of an AoA then you've reached your stall point.) so weight forward= >AoA= lift. now in swooping we are trying to be as most efficent as possible. if you can change where you are under the canopy while keeping the canopy as true to form as possible (ie not deforming it with risers or togles) then that should be the most effecient way to fly across the ground. so when you're trying to eek out that last little bit of flare, CP's are leaning forward so they have to use less of their inputs so they distort their canopy less which means they can go just a little bit further because they were just a little more efficient. however, it's such a fine line that for a lot of people they either don't see the difference or feel the difference because they just don't have the experience yet. hopefully this kinda made sense. where did you start counting the seconds? i highly dought that he was going 150mph because 3 of us were able to keep up with him pretty well. we were all loading at about 2.2 on vx's and velo's but yeah, it is a good illustration of how shit can go bad and quick. i've uploaded the video of my friend kicking out of linetwists on his vx79 from 12k. this was not planned, it was just luck he had the camera where he did. video is titled 'gile spinner' under the malfunctions category. i don't know when it'll be available but hopefully tomorrow it will be 'cleared' Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

as someone else stated the NW winter is coming so not too much can be planned. however, i wouldn't be too suprised to see some stuff going on spring and summer of next year. what are you looking to get out of Canopy control class? accuracy? aerodynamics? High perfomance flight? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

i have the video and will try and put it up tonight after work. i'll let you guys know Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

do what you have to do to save your life. if that means chopping at 12k then do it. i don't question people's decisions in these matters, i just take a note for my self and then apply what i've learned if i'm ever in the same situation. my friend has great video of him kicking out of such line twists on a vx 79. yeah, it took him 5500' to do it but he got it done. he depoyed at 12k Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

get some coaching from slaton and duane at the GLC, then go have fun. it'll be easier on your body if you do, and less frustrating. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

i posted this on cp.com as well but don't know how many of you go there, so here is a copy and paste of my thoughts on this issue. how about wingload categories (not restrictions), instead of weight categories? What i mean is why not have categories such as if you're at 2.2 and below you're in category A, if you're 2.2+ then cat. B. that way you can wear as much or little weight as you want or your body can handle. if we put restrictions on our selves such as all CPC competitors can only fly at 2.2 and below then i think we will be hurting the progression of the sport severly (sp). For me personally I don't want to be restricted on what i fly, how i fly, or how much i load my canopy at. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

the bigger reason why pilots were having a challenging time with zone acc is because they didn't set up/ adjust their paterns accordingly. a lot of guys set up on the zone acc course the same way they set up on the dist course and they were blowing out the back. people should have been setting up 150-200 feet further back for the accuracy course Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
