You mean people who talk about tools when they really mean guns? that kind of thing? Frankly, a gun IS a tool. I live in the country. We have bears coming around - one killed my cat last year. We've had rabid foxes hanging around -- one went after a neighbor's pet a couple of years ago. He was killed 'by a 22 caliber long gun' and was found to test positive for rabies. Skunks and racoons also get rabies and attack people and pets. Not to mention persistent rumors of wildcats attacking livestock.... That's why we have guns here - they ARE tools used to protect our livelihoods, homes and families... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. actually, when one of the people involved is in authority above the other, many people do care. Issues like sexual harassment or abuse, etc. It may even be against the law if it affects working conditions, no? If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Or is that because you just jump balloons and helicopters so infrequently, that you haven't gotten used to it there yet, like you have for airplanes? Or maybe it's a matter of human perception. You feel like you're dropping more when exiting from a balloon because there's no windspeed to fool your senses into believing that you're already going real fast downward? It is exactly correct, the forward acceleration is such that as you step off and begin to accelerate down, you decelerate forward movement, so there is not much acceleration involved, simply speeding up 25 - 30% over the next 12 seconds. Stepping off a bridge, on the other hand.... you do get that droppy feeling. Or a hovering helicopter, balloon etc. What made it real noteworthy to me was one year jumping off the new river gorge bridge from the roof of the motorhome going about 45-55 mph. No droppy feeling! Even though the previous days jumps there, from standing (days before the diving board) you had felt it. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Caucasian Americans For Obama - Can't find the website
skypuppy replied to davjohns's topic in Speakers Corner
Perhaps black Americans share more than just skin color. Perhaps they also share a common history, culture, food, religious ties, etc. Is it okay for them to bond over those things, or is any group of black people getting together for a common cause evidence of racism to you? ______________________________________________ Then, as already stated, it must be ok for another group who doesn't share a common culture, food, religious ties, etc., not to bond with the first group and indeed to work hard to put forward their own candidate with whom they do affiliate. Thus, ours is better than yours.... Yet when someone says that, they are accused of being racist. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. No, you twisted his Like that is a surprise Exactly. Exactly the whole point. We're not trying to teach someone not to kill here, the time for that has passed. We're removing a threat to society who has already proved that he is willing and able to take advantage of others. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. The point is, he escaped and went on to rape and severely beat an innocent women, who suffered brain damage from the beating. Just saying they can't excape, or that they won't later be paroled, as davjon has said, doesn't make it so. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Nope, but as a society you have failed. The village has failed. Here are some questions to consider: How many people convicted of heinous crimes have serious psychological issues? Does "The Village" and the family not have a responsibility to help those dealing with severe psychological diseases? I don't really believe in the 'it takes a village' philosophy, however, even if I did there are many severe psychological diseases that cannot be cured. A schizophrenic women just stabbed two canadian women fatally in the main tourist region of atlantic city in broad daylight (about 11;45 am) in front of a policeman. A schizophrenic man who cut a stranger's head off while taking a bus trip, and then ate some of his victim (in front of the other passengers on the bus) is now getting day parole just 3 years after killing the 25 year-old. I view neither of those perps as being anyone I owe anything to just because they have wires crossed -- but I still believe that society should be protected from them. Remote prisons are not secure. Many people walked away from gulags in Russia or from other remote high security prison camps. And the fact they did it, means that these dangerous people would be free to attack society again. The purpose of the justice system is to protect society -- if they can;t be rehabilitate (and many can't), and they're liable to kill or commit other violent crime -- kill em first. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

>No good can come of keeping them alive. And no good can come from killing them. At that point it's just a question of "what is the least bad?" Wrong. If you kill em, they're dead. They're not going to walk past the fence and rape some poor housewife who happens to live down the block, like happened not far from where I live a few years back.... So to make my statement 'correct' all I would need is a poll of conservatives who support the banning of gay marriage and a poll of conservatives who believe in 'small government' that does not infringe on personal activities. __________________________________________________ Here's the point, though. You don't have a poll of conservatives about either point, and yet you still made the statement.... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. I voted no. Then again, like many I pretty much always wear mine now. But to mandate it is an infringement of my right to choose. I feel the same about aads - they should not be mandatory, although I believe everyone (experienced, qualified, which to me means off student status) should decide on their own if they want one. Actually here in Ontario it dropped to .05 a couple of years ago. At first, that was just a 'warn', but now it seems to be the point where they trigger higher insurance, loss of vehicle for a few days, and everything that used to occur at .08. Rush already explained it. How do you know this? From the recorded phone call where he was following TM. That's called an act of aggression that's easily perceived as a threat. Try finding someone in a neighborhood and follow the person around. See what happens. For big fun, try it with a woman. See how she responds. following is not attacking. One starts with an A and the other with a F.... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Here's one: You assume that Z was an attacker. Wrong assumption, wouldn't you agree? No, "follower" doesn't mean "attacker". Here's another: You assume that whatever force TM was using was non-lethal. You don't know that. Here's another: You said TM stood his ground. Not so. By all accounts, he approached. That's not standing your ground. No confrontation would have happened had TM continued on his innocent way and not approached Z. Something about glass houses here...... +1 If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. hmmm. bureaucrats refusing to acknowledge that the elected gov't has changed the law. refreshing. yeah, right, I guess I didn't see that.... Sadly, what is lost in this exchange about the specific law, government and independent provincial CFO's is that the Conservatives made it one of their campaign pledges to remove the long-gun registry. A significant majority of the electorate placed them in power. So my issue is that these uniformed bureaucrats are not just in contravention of a legitimate Law of the Land, but one that succeeded on the will of the citizens. Yup. And the CFO's were appointed to serve the commissioner of the RCMP, but now seem to think they are at the top of the chain of command. and now even tho' the head of the RCMP has written letters to the CFOs in the provinces that they ARE NOT to have required anything that could resemble a registry, the CFO's in Ontario and Alberta in particular have specifically stated that they don't care what the feds and the rcmp say, their own legal advisors have told them they can require this information. Apparently these guys had gotten together in February in order to prepare for the eventuality that the long gun registry would be repealed, and this was what they came up with. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/straighttalk/archives/2012/05/20120513-083854.html If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Quebec is already suing the feds to get the info on quebec gun owners, rather than destroying it. Now other provinces are attempting to maintain a paper record in order to reinstate a new registry once the Conservatives are out of office. Here is one article in which the Ontario Provincial Police openly defy the feds. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/politics/archives/2012/05/20120509-140218.html If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme.
