I think a war on Iraq would be a stupid thing to do. If the UN needs to enforce a resolution, there are other countries. Besides, enforcing weapons inspections is not what Bush is out to do. He explicitly said he wants Husseins head on a plate. Now, that may be a nice proposition or not, but this is not a good time. The US economy is unstable. It may not be in recession exactly, but it's teetering on the brink. The stock market is still recovering from the TelCo implosion. Hussein seems to be nothing but a harmless megalomaniac at this stage, if that. There are better uses for the money, and there are for sure better uses for the human resources it will entail. I'm not even going into the oil. Whether or not that is Bush's primary concern is unclear. I sure as hell hope not, but I have my doubts, just like 90% of the people on this thread it seems... Bush Jr in general is, in my opinion, not the greatest president America ever had, to put it mildly. But that is a discussion for another topic. If he wants to protect Americans, why doesn't he address some real dangers, like crime rate and illiteracy, instead of feeding a troll like Hussein?

A woman is speeding an a highway and is pulled over by a highway patrolman. The patrolman walks up to her car, writes her a ticket and gives it to her. Woman: "If I pay for this, do I get a ticket to the highway patrolmens ball?" Patrolman: "Highway patrolmen don't have balls, mam"

Good point. Again, the next is only a guess on my part, but Truman tried to win the war with conventional means and failed. Did Hussein try? Or did he just fire the rockets? Well, there was a UN resolution for Iraq to lose its weapons of mass destruction and to allow inspectors. I don't believe he complied. As long as Mr Bush does not go gung-ho and let'er'rip (sorry, I've never been to Texas, hope I haven't offended anyone from there), aren't we enforcing UN resolutions?

Whats your point dude?

"Master i Margarita" should be avaliable in all russian bookstores. If you like reading and you haven't read this book, you are missing out on the literary equivalent to skydiving (ok, maybe not, but you know what I mean

Let the historians correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the only alternative to that a full scale sea-based invasion of Japan? A-la Normandy? Which would have killed millions of Japanese "civilians" (which would indubitably participate in the fighting)? I may be wrong, but I think Truman chose the lesser of the two evils. ------ Disclaimer: I'm not disagreeing with anyone here. This is a neutral question. If you do not take the reports of Husseins stockpile of weapons and production rates as a lie, what do you think should be done? I mean, it is believeable that North Korea is stockpiling weapons as a deterrent, yes, but can you believe that of Hussein? And if not, what should be done?

Hands down an ISTP, except maybe "not interested in theories". Anyone else here read math books as entertainment? Check this out also, gives a fairly interesting result: http://www.thespark.com/person

That's gotta be one of the more original first posts yet

My 0.02 is that even girls that want a nice guy fall into the same trap. Basically, they first meet the guy and they are wow'ed, because he is witty and funny and skydives and rich and whatever the hell they see in him. Then they get him. And he is nice to them. And they can see him whenever they want, and have from him what they want without too much effort. Which basically means that he's treating her nicely. If he were to deny her wishes and ask for sex, he would be a bad guy, right? This makes his original flare (no pun intended) go away. So bad boyz finish first with girls like this because they are never really "theirs", and the girls (usually young) have a really short attention span. I guess when people grow up they develop more tolerance, an attention span, and an emotional need that goes beyond being entertained and being pleased. Then again, I'm still learning, so maybe I'm wrong. Please, please prove me wrong Anyway, don't feel bad dude, if she is this way she wasn't worth you anyway. Just my 2 pennies. Now go and jump, if your rig complains you always have another one

This weekend promises to be crappy again I may come up on Sunday, at least to get a few more supervised packs done, if anyone's gonna be there. Maybe meet you there.
-
Nick? Don't tell me you were there last sunday on the overcast day, cussing at the weather. I'm Eugene. Me and Anton are there pretty much every weekend.

You can't ask the dog, but a good owner will know whether the dog likes it or not. People that went as far as to get a custom harness for their mans-best-friend probably really care, and also know the animal well. Well enough to tell when it's so scared it's about to have heart failure. Besides, you know how dogs love to stick their heads out of the windows of moving cars? Always makes me nervous when I'm driving by Not disagreeing, just venting. People don't know anything about the sport, don't want to learn, but are telling the participants what to do.
-
They are probably claiming that it's not fun for the dog cause it wouldn't be fun for them. Just transferring their own fear to a situation they can deal with. Damn, a skydiving dog would be cool. We have two dogs at our DZ. One is called Sabre, probably after the canopy. He doesn't skydive though, he just steals peoples burgers If gerbils skydive, why not dogs?

U of Waterloo, BMath, Comp Sci major. Was stupid, went to a bad school for a year. When I came here they stuck me into year one cause my previous U was worthless. The first week was fun. My two roomies, who are also good friends of mine, were frosh. They were scared and worrying, while I was telling them battle stories - "Eh, sonny, this is nothing! Back in my day, they gave us 15 page exams and 40 minutes to do them" (yeah, right, heh). As long as my skydiving bills are kept under control, I should graduate in 4 years

This was probably posted before but I couldn't find it if it was. If login.cgi has the url parameter, ie it looks like this: login.cgi?url=referer, the script does nothing. It just sends you back to where you came from, not logged in. Example: I go on the forums, want to post, click on the "login" link on top of the page, type my username and password, click ok, and I'm dumped back to the forums without having logged in. If I erase the url parameter from the address, everything works fine.

We use student Vectors. I believe that the main lift web is in fact adjustable, but even when the three rings are properly on my shoulders some of the student harnesses' chest straps choke. Also, only some of the rigs do this. I've picked a rig I like that doesn't have this problem as much, the chest strap rides up only about an inch even when you pull on your back at terminal (don't ask me how I know). Maybe the leg straps lost friction?
-
Go talk to a Skydive U. coach and ask him/her about that. Its wrong. You don't arch from your chest, you arch from your hips/stomach. Good point. Also, it seems that no matter what I do, on some of the student rigs the straps ride up on opening. Last jump the strap went so high that if I bend my head to look at the ground I feel it against my larynx. The rigs are supposed to settle a bit on opening to absorb the shock, yes, but is this normal?

Hey all, I'm still on student status, and one thing you notice as a student is that every instructor has his own preferences. Some ask you to spot for yourself completely, some want to give you a nod before you go. Some want you to cue your exit, some just want you to get off their plane

Drag depends on your acceleration and surface area (assuming all the other hojillion variables remain constant as you're falling. Actually, one probably doesn't - the air is turbulent as you're stabilizing. The exact effect of this needs a physics professor

We have a skydiver at our DZ who goes by the nick "Thumper", apparently because he hits the ground a lot. He refuses to tell me his real name. Anyway, it was my second jump and he was the instructor. We are on my jump run and he does the usual "How do you feel?" thing with low timers. To reassure him I'm good to go I decide to call him by name. Problem is, he didn't tell me his nick before we took off, so I had to read it off his shirt. His shoulder straps were over part of his name, so what I ended up calling him was "Humper" That made a pretty good story
