  1. ok so I may catch some crap for this post but here it goes. I've been jumping a katana for a little while now gave my rig to my rigger for some work and jump on a friends velo loaded about 1.5. Now I know Crossbraces arnt really needed till higher loadings but the velo is such an awesome canopy even at lighter loadings. The recovery arc is close to the same so what would be the harm in having a velo vs a katana?
  2. This is a really great thread! As a non medic trained jumper I just try to help by staying out of the way. IfIm first on the scene I would just try to keep the injured calm, go get help and or just get out the way when someone trained gets there. Usually anytime I see one get hurt they have 20 people just start running over. They don't need me
  3. Not sure if this will help but on my ka120 the only thing extra I would do is roll the crap out of the tail. Didn't push the nose in or roll it any. Just flake it all out symmetrically and roll the tail a lot. I hope you figure out your openings
  4. The sticky tape is more than strong enough provided you cleaned the helmet surface good and you let it cure for about 24 hours before you jump it. No need to drill holes in your expensive helmet for that mount.
  5. Recently a friend at the dz gave me a birdman classic for free! Now I have no other experience with tracking suits or other wingsuits but I got 90 seconds of freefall from 14k. That's about the only data I have with it. Its not much compared to other people but its cool to me
  6. Id recommend a jumpsuit but you really have to think of what kind of skydiving you are going to be doing and get the right tools for the job.
  7. I've dealt with pawn shops before and they don't give you a quarter the value of anything unless its jewelry. That's assuming they even accept a parachute rig. there's not a very big market for it and who's yo say if they do find a buyer(because they have to assume that you won't come back for it) that they won't go kill themselves with it by jumping off a 3 story building. The only thing you can do is go over there with it and ask but don't have too much expectation when you go.
  8. You can always just call manifest when ever you wake up and ask his the weather is before you drive up there
  9. To set it from front to back, dont set the helmet down on the open part where your head goes in but set it so the visor is straight up and down and then you will have the top of your helmet. Also make sure how ever you position your mount that you have enough clearance for your visor to go up. Shouldn't be a problem though. You can also get some double sided scotch tape to put your mount on so you can early adjust it before drilling holes into a 400 dollar helmet.
  10. I have deployed facing into the wind( headdown). Seriously, don't do it! It hurts!
  11. Clouds were sketchy one day and we decide to go for it anyway. We put together a 3-way hybrid. There's a s&ta spotting, apparently he recognized a pond across a field from the dz. I'm in the third group getting out. With another 3-way right behind us. Everybody goes and as soon as I jump I see nothing but clouds. We build the hybrid and entervthe clouds at 8k feet, we break at 5k and I start tracking( still in the clouds) and realize I can't see, don't know where Im going and don't know where anybody is at so I stop tracking. I was gonna pull at 3.5k but decided it would be best to get out the clouds first. So Im burning past 2k and start getting scared so I decided to pull at 1800. As my canopy starts inflating I start breaking out of the cloud at 1300. Ended up the s&ta really did have a good spot because I made a turn, entered the pattern and landed. Weird thing for ten people to get out before you and you are the first to land. Oh yeah, only had about 70 jumps at the time.
  12. Maybe check your brake line length? When you pull fully on the fronts is there any tension on the tail? It could cause a buffeting effect and cause the fronts to be ripped out your hands
  13. your curve ball is that you downsized to such a high wingloading before learning this stuff. If you are having double front issues now just wait till you incorporate turns for your landings or even worse planning out on rears. the thing about high performance landings is its like starting out all over again and you are going to make mistakes. to answer your question, it sounds like your canopy is trying to recover. chances are with the downsize you are able to pull the risers down faster and further than with your 170. the faster you start a dive the faster it will recover. pulling the fronts down further is giving you more speed=lift. between the two your canopy is trying to recover to full flight sooner than you want. try unloading your canopy by cycling and as your canopy starts tipping back forward pull the fronts, it will make it easier to pull down and wont try to rip out you hands. it will start trying to gain lift again after a while so you only need about 4 seconds on double fronts, and start releasing your risers smooth for the recovery. also all this info may be wrong and get you hurt or killed. i suggest you take some canopy courses. beginner and intermediate. they are worth it! good luck! you will need luck on your side!
  14. Sunday I showed up at the dz, made a couple of jumps, starting out to be a great day as usual and then it happened! A friend of mine walked in with a birdman classic wingsuit to try on since we were about the same size. The suit fit great and then he said I could have it! I said "for free?! You don't even want a little something for it?!" he said he didn't want anything for it and he even came and observed my first wingsuit flight! It was so much fun! I think Im hooked on wingsuits for life now! People really can be amazing and generous! I just hope I can repay him back one day!
  15. is there something wrong with the year 97 only? mine is a 95. was that year ok? i know its slightly off topic but could you elaborate on your comment? http://www.precision.aero/SB/sb1221faq.htm Whew! DON'T SCARE ME LIKE THAT!!!

  17. I've had times where we had 70mph uppers and little on the ground. Had to give everybody a lot of time for separation. Another time all the way down to 1500 everyone was backing up under canopy with 30mph+ winds, but nice on the ground so we kept jumping and just didn't rush back to the pattern. But all those times they did put the jumping on b license and c license holds and no students were allowed.
  18. It was hard to tell. Did you hang on to the Mr bill with your left hand or were you trying to fly the exit and be stable for the pull? If Im stable when I pull ill help out with hanging on other than that Im using my hands to fly. Ill also second that you don't have a chest strap grip. I prefer Mr bill hanging on to the mudflap. Other than that I can't comment on being wrapped by the bridel, the only failed Mr bill I've had was a fat kid trying to hang on
  19. Thanks for the reply guys! I guess what it really amounts to is just more experience and hanging out with the people that are doing what you want to do! Maybe one day ill come across one of y'all a follow y'all around to see how much is really involved in it. Thanks again
  20. Interesting. Can you prove that assertion? Well Im sorry guys. I couldve sworn you needed 6 hours but I can't find it either. oh well, can't be right all the time.
  21. You'd definitely need to be at a 7 day a week Dropzone with at least 2 rigs. Tell a packed your plans so they can try to make you priority to get you on the next load. Don't only do hop n pops because you need 6hours of freefall time. You also need 3 years in sport to get a tandem rating so someone with only a year in the sport can't go and make a bunch of jumps real quick and get the rating
  22. wow!!! insane video! glad everyone turned out ok! ive always thought(was taught) if you are so low that you can't make it to the group then track off till pull altitude. any time ive gone low I would just leave. when I opened I was 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from everyone because I had more time to track than them. if you leave early and still cant out track your mates you need to go get coaching!
  23. A kid at gold coast just turned 14 and has over 3000 pack jobs! Just pay attention to detail and hang around looking for clients. If its what you want to do then go for it!
  24. That's really up to you. You know the dangers are going to increase if you downsize. You like high pulls? You'll have less time in the air. You want to be more stable in turbulence? As you downsize You may fly through some and not feel it compared to a bigger canopy but when you do feel it, it will be more violent. I don't think going to a 150 would be extreme but id stay on the same platform so you are at least use to the characteristics of your canopy.
