  1. Someone found a guy recently with both of the riser rings through the harness ring on one side. Had been jumping it like that for well over a month or two. He's was on a heavily loaded velo swooping it like that too! He's not the kind of guy to get gear checks but look at the people around you totally and not just the chest strap!
  2. Hey! Spaceland shouldn't be too far away or you could just move back and come back to gc
  3. I did actually did look forward to my first cutaway and when it happened it was everything I wanted in a malfunction. Super line twists going all the way up to a big ball of crap with heavy rotation and spinning me on my back. I definitely didn't try to cause it, I prefer surprises. One of the best jumps I've ever had!
  4. I didnt use the measuring chart I tried on a couple of my friends to get the sizing right. If you know of anybody at your dz with them id ask them to try theirs on.
  5. I find the g3 light even with a go-pro on top of it. P.s. I love my g3!
  6. Awesome dude! Good luck and maybe we'll meet in the sky one day!
  7. I know the last canopy course I attended there was 6 of us and our canopy coach showed us all the differences between things like 7 cell vs 9 cell and how the navigator is the exception to the 9 cells during our debreifs. Depending on your class size and what kind of canopies everyone has you could ask your coach to explain it all to you.
  8. It would be cool but how is he going to get back home? He left his skateboard at the dz. Also he left his gear outside on the concrete in the sun, it not going to last very long like that and that's if its still there when he comes back out. One more thing... Who eats toast with cereal?
  9. It really depends who you are trying to keep up with bit the more weight you wear the higher your wingloading is going to be. Id start with 4-6 pounds and go from there adding about 2 pounds each time to get use to the canopy ride and so you don't become too fast for who you are flying with. Just start small like everything else.
  10. Almost any gear purchase you will get your money out of. Start with cheap stuff. Goggles, open face helmet. An analog altimeter, jumpsuit, and then start looking for gear. If you're going to play in the tunnel for winter you could use your goggles, helmet and jumpsuit. Just start with the basics
  11. Ha. I don't use a jumpsuit either. Get rid of the longsleeve and wear a normal t-shirt. That should help some but you may need to wear a couple pounds of lead weight. Anytime you change your clothing flying will feel funny which is why people where jumpsuits to begin with. It builds a consistency, much like you built with wearing the same clothes. Get a tight slick jumpsuit and if you need then add a couple pounds of weight.
  12. I wish I could swoop like that! My canopy isn't responsive enough to whip harness turns like that yet. I guess its time for me to downsize.
  13. I used that stuff after a motorcycle accident with road rash all over me. It works! I used the Johnson&Johnson version. It helps healing so much and reduces scars
  14. I mostly land on my feet - I struggle a bit with cross wind landings but I've since been told I need to counteract the wind effect on the canopy with a marginally harder pull on the upwind side to keep the canopy level and haven't had a chance to practice this yet. who ever is telling you that needs to go on Brians Canopy course! -- You canopy does not KNOW about anything except Relative wind Yes your canopy only know the relative wind, it also doesn't know ground speed. When you are mixing the ground with flying(landing) you are going to have to counteract the wind on a crosswind. Landing crosswind is the same as doing a flare turn in no winds.
  15. Often the hardest thing to do is get into the car and going there. Instead of planning on making a jump just grab your bike and go watch and hangout with no intention of jumping. After going there a couple of times to just chill and watch planning another jump might not be so hard. Good luck to ya
  16. Well the best answer is learn to fly the he'll out of the canopy you have now before downsizing but you are most likely gonna do what you want anyway. Id print out the canopy survival skills and the downsizing checklist if you are thinking about downsizing and go over them. Also none here has seen you fly your canopy. Talk to you instructors if they think you'll be ok. But I wouldn't put stand up landings as a sign to go smaller. You could probably figure out how to stand up a velo 96 in about 5 jumps, it doesn't mean you'll be ok in an oh ship situation.
  17. Well ask yourself this. What if nobody used radios for students? Would that have stopped you from jumping? Also you can buy a nice set of goggles with clear lens for 20 bucks.awesome investment btw. As for the altimeter lens hard to see through, new goggles should help but id talk to them about it if its really that bad. Just be prepared to hear " nobody else had problems with it.
  18. I love my solo2! For a basic audible, its awesome. It has 3 freefall alarms you can set between 1500-6500. It doesn't log any data, just something cool to have inside you helmet. I just use mine for breakoff, wave off, and my hard deck. I also use a neptune2 that has a couple of freefall preset which also has 3 alarms each and has the same for canopy alarms. But haven't tested out the alarms for on it so can't comment as much on that.
  19. Those are some good posts and I appreciate yalls time for answering my question. There isva highly skilled rw guy at my dz that is always holding skills camps at my dz. I think I might try to talk him into holding an organizing class. Great ideas y'all. Thank you!
  20. Did a beach jump and someone asked me if a boat bought us out there
  21. Hey all! I was wondering what kind of proper briefings do y'all give when organizing 8-ways, scrs and maybe bigger. Some of the basic things like exits, diving down, breakoff. I tried doing a search and only found old events. Just wondering what kind of briefings the experts give out.
  22. Yeah and if you are gonna jump, don't pull unstable... You could dislocate an arm
