Does Size really don't matter?
ridebmxbikes replied to Avikus's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As she gains experience she will be allowed wear weights to help but more importantly she will also learn how to fly faster/smaller. Soon enough y'all will fly together with no problem. Might take a couple of jumps to get it right at first but you'll get it -
Haha, my friend put a go-pro at the top of the strut and was able to catch an entire tandem skydive from exit to opening. I've also seen the on the inside windshield pointing out the door for the exits too. Not sure of any other good spots unless you let people climb around the outside of the plane

Anyone with an alternative way to attach a Sky Tie?
ridebmxbikes replied to colossus's topic in Gear and Rigging
Any concerns with the elastic? I know some reserve flaps don't open all the way or it doesn't fit. I haven't had any problems with the elastic though. -
Flying the p*ss out of a canopy.
ridebmxbikes replied to DocPop's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Why would anyone want to fly their canopy to a point that it p¡§€$ on them? No wonder why people downsize before they get to that point! -
Ill just lie about what really happened. What happens in the sky, stays in the sky! Unless Im wearing my go-pro can't lie if its on video.

For all that money youre gonna spend buying someone 50 jumps to give you some tips not to mention you're own jumps, you should just go to a tunnel. Its more cost effective and you'll learn more.

I'm with aflac this year. They do cover skydiving this year and that includes the supplemental when I signed up. Also the supplemental didn't cover it last year, only the health insurance did. They also don't cover all extreme sports. It seems like the policies are always changing. You'd just have to call and find out who covers what and what they offer for what price.

Be careful with that shoulder. My friend dislocated his right shoulder upon aff graduation on landing. Second time it happened was on a 3-way on exit, he ended up going to silver because he couldn't pull. Third time it happened was on a 8-way in freefall. Couldn't find silver to save his life. Aad caught him. After that he got surgery and he's still waiting for a full recovery before he jumps again. I'm glad to hear you got a left hand throw out but in freefall your arm is in the perfect position to slip right on out with minimal force. Which was most of my point. Id keep the dives really simple, easy docks with no pulling and no linked exits. Get the shoulder fixed as soon as you can and protect that arm with your life! Blue skies! Edit: p.s. I think I saw a company that rents aads.you could search for it and. Ill try to find it for you too.

Holy cow batman! That's an awesome video! I don't think a striving canopy can do that though. But what's this helicopter spin with the rears?
-
Ok Im bored and figured id try to make a fun thread. I've started attempting barrel rolls where I dive the canopy, flair out and raise a toggle all while trying maintain speed and wow I've never been so high above my canopy! So my question is... What are some other fun and crazy things to do while you're all high n stuff?

nobody pulled?! awesome video but the helicopter looked fake!

Comparission of cross-braced canopies
ridebmxbikes replied to markussprenger's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'd agree with you. To me the KA is a transition canopy for people who are building their experience with lower wingloadings. When you get to 1.8-1.9+ a crossbraced canopy makes more sense because it has more powerful controls. So you're condoning going from a Xfire2 139 to a Velo 103-111 in one step? That's not what I said but now you ask I'd be happier for the OP to do that than to condone you jumping a KA135 at 240 jumps. I'm saying that in a choice between a KA107 or a VE103 at around 2:1 I'd recommend the VE. bwahaha, get'em! this is why i love this site! entertainment for days! -
At what elevations you set your audible?
ridebmxbikes replied to SFBayArea's topic in Gear and Rigging
I set my first alarm for breakoff, changes almost every jump depending on who I jump with and what type of jump. The second 500' before pull time to come out of track and wave off, usually about 1k below breakoff but preferably 1500' so the alarms don't blend in. The third is my hard deck which can also change, usually 1500 but if Im pulling @ 4500' or higher I set it to 2000'. I figure if I pull higher and I still haven't fixed it by 2k it probably isn't gonna get fixed anyway. -
I agree! 100 jumps at 20 bucks a jump for rental is 2000 dollars. You can get a cheap used rig for that and when you are ready to downsize or get a whole new ri you now have stuff to sell. I've bought and sold 2 canopies, put about 150 jumps on each and resold them for the same price I bought them for. Buy some gear and you'll have way more fun!

What?! How can you have less jumps than me and be at such a higher wingloading than me?! This is bull§#¡+! I'm downsizing!
-
Noon here, not responding to anyone in particular but have theory? If someone is pulling at 2k then shouldn't their mindset be not to try to fix a mal and go straight to ep's but then you have the guy who pulls at 3k or higher that figures he has time to play with his ball of cloth till its past the deadline and cuts too low? Not saying everyone should be pulling low but if less people were cutting away too low 10 years ago when people were pulling lower it seems like people got complacement by pulling higher. does any of that make sense or am I way out of my league with this subject? Thoughts?
-
Think of it like this, you're about to downsize, you load yourself up with weights so you're at the same wingloading on the canopy you have now to see what the smaller one will feel before you jump it. Then you take the weights off (losing weight) and you jump the smaller one. You will probablvcome in at the same speed but the responsiveness will be a lot greater, recovery arcs longer. Everything will be higher performance and will happen faster.

Run around and collect everyone's silver handles and hide them in someone else's gearbag. Everyone will laugh and you'll have tons of friends after!

Pilot Chute gets wrapped around your arm or leg
ridebmxbikes replied to wicodefly's topic in Safety and Training
I did that on my first demo. Exited on a hop n pop and threw out on my back and the bridal went between my legs. I just flailed, screamed like a girl, flipped over bringing a leg over the bridal and it worked. Had it tied around my leg I probably would have went straight to silver and tried to contain the mess on my legs. But that's what I think I wouldve done. Situations can always change in very small ways that would call for different actions. -
Yep, I know how you feel! I'm fortunate to have a very cute red head packing for me and and I think my canopy likes it too!

Negative reactions to the sport
ridebmxbikes replied to NorrinRadd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah my old boss use to tear into me about it saying I was gonna die n stuff and I was crazy. Its amazing how people talk to you when they think you have a death wish and you're totally insane. I think they're the crazy ones! -
