anyone having problems tuning a guitar with a floyd trem on it just isnt doing it right. at least 30 of my guitars have floyds on them and ive never had a problem with any of them. any guitars with a floyd and no locknut is most likely a cheapo guitar with a knock off licensed by floyd trem. this WILL go out of tune and WILL NOT work properly. if the dreaded break a string and go out of tune bothers you, theres a little gadget that attaches from the claw to the trem in place of one of the springs which has adjuatable tension on both sides to hold the floating trem in a neutral position.adjust it tight and pop a string and it still floats neutral. for the record, i only use 2 springs on my floyds. if you play dubbing the strings with a heavy right hand, you may want to set up with 3 springs. heres how to get started with the 2 spring setup. start by adjusting the claw screws almost all the way in with about a quarter inch space between the claw and back of the cavity rout. should be about the right tension to start you in the ballpark to tune it. do slight adjustments until you get the guitar in tune with the trem floating level. tighter with the claw screws if its in tune but the trem is floating forward, and looser if its leaning back. you might try boiling the strings first also to take the temper out and stretch them. it helps alot. once you get used to floyds, theyre easy to deal with. i did luthier work for many years and have done hundreds if not a thousand floyd installs, recesses, etc in trem and non trem guitars. i still have about 50 pounds of floyd parts and a couple dozen original floyd trems laying around still in boxes new. need a part, i can always hook up a skydiving brother or sister. _______________________________ HK MP5SD.........silence is golden

I'm curious why showers seem to be involved in the skydiving experience. Do you get dirty up there, or is it from bugs sticking to you? Haha please forgive my ignorance. I'm guessing because it contains the evil "G" word in the subject matter. You know, g-g-g-guns! Some people are so paranoid about them, that even if you're talking about them in a non-political way, they just can't handle it. thats why i posted it in here. i didnt want to hear any whining about where i put a "chute n SHOOT" post, even though the post was mainly about clyde and what happened to him. anyhow, heres an update: Tomorrow Clyde will be moved into a room on 3rd floor West at UMC. He will have to keep the trach. for likely another month; eventually he will be given a finistrative [sp?] trach. which will allow him to speak.....he cannot talk nor can he write on the dry erase board I took for him to use......his hands and arms are too weak for his writing to be legible......this is a terribly frustrating time for all of us with our inability to read his lips, except for occasional words, nor can he write, "yet"-that will change, hopefully soon....... Dr. Simmons told me this morning that pneumonia showed up last night........this is not good but we were warned that this might happen.......The nurse from CMMC talked with both me and Clyde this afternoon and when it was explained to him what would be involved in his therapy and rehab he nodded that he understood .......thankfully, he was not agitated today as he was yesterday when he awoke after losing a week of his life....that was really jolting and difficult reality! He is breathing w/o the ventilator now and is managing pain via a pain patch that seems to be working well. He seems to be making small but good progress. i dont think this has been posted, so for anyone interested in the chute n shoot this year, were hosed. anyhow, more imprortantly is for clyde to get better.damn, it sucks when things like this happen to someone. this was in my mail today. ------------------------------------------------------------ Hello to all whose e-mails I found in a Chute 'n Shoot folder this afternoon and sorry for those whose addresses I do not know....John Storrie may have already contacted some of you; but this is the latest news from Joanna about Clyde's accident : Saturday about noon Clyde was attempting to cut the berm beside the barn at the end of the first rifle range when the tractor turned over, rolled over him, broke his ribs and damaged his lungs......He got up, walked from the old barn to the pavilion area to his truck and drove himself [!] to the hospital in Forest.....he was then airlifted to the med center in Jackson where he has been since Saturday afternoon. Sat. pm he was moved from trauma into a step-down room for observation till noon yesterday when he was sent to have a lung scan.....during this procedure everything went wrong with his lungs and his heart and he was rushed into surgical ICU where they spent about 3 hrs. stabilizing him....his heart went crazy but is now ok... Today I was told that his lungs are looking better and his heart is beating as it should.....Tomorrow a tracheotomy will be done to insert a tube into his lungs b/c currently the tube down his throat is not working well enough....he is full of tubes...although he is well sedated he can respond by moving his head very slightly when I speak with him. There will be no Chute 'n Shoot this year.....Clyde is going to have a lengthy recuperation. Please pray for his healing and also that this accident will be a "wake-up" call for him.... yes, if your grommets are the correct size, you can pull the slider over them. not sure what size, id have to check. on my one canopy i have the slink bumpers and i pull it over them every jump i use it on. only downside is when u pull it back, they flip inside out and ya have to pull them back from inverted. only takes a few exxtra seconds tho. _______________________________ HK MP5SD.........silence is golden
