The "Militarization" argument explained.......
Boomerdog replied to skycop's topic in Speakers Corner
This assumes (hopefully), that sufficient intelligence is obtained that dictates the proper AND proportional response. Then of course there are the horror stories of wrong addresses and terrified innocents rousted and jacked up in the middle of the night. And lest we forget...the late Detective Adam Sowders of Burleson County, Texas, who with some very questionable intelligence from ONE CI, tells Sowders that a Mr. Henry Magee; a petty criminal highly suspected of dealing marijuana around Burleson County had a trailer full of pot plants in excess of 6' tall (the evidence actually collected is well shy of what the CI stated). Sowders secures a "no-knock" warrant from a judge based upon ONE source of highly suspect (individual AND information) intelligence and decided to kick in the door in the early morning hours of the following day(s). Sowders was first in the door arousing Magee sleeping next to his pregnant girlfriend. The "intell" Sowders tragically missed was that Magee slept with a fully loaded AR-10 at his bedside. A VERY short time after entry was executed a startled Magee subsequently gets the drop on Sowders putting a few rounds into Sowders killing him. Magee of course was arrested and charged with the murder of a cop; which in Texas is a one way ticket to Death Row. But after all the evidence was presented to the Grand Jury returned a "no bill" of indictment on the murder charges as the preponderance of evidence pointed to self defense. Magee however is facing felony drug charges and will probably serve time of convicted but he did avoid the "trip to Huntsville." Fact is, similar scenarios are going down like this and people are dying. Most of the time it's the civilians. This time and sadly a cop "bought it." It did not have to end like this -

Are there guns in my house? One of these days I'll get asked that question by an MD. My answer will be no guns in my house and that will be the end of that. P.S. The guns are locked in a safe.

Well, I don't know if you were ever in the military, but there are many ways and many stories how to teach lessons and humble the self perceived mighty. I still correspond with two senior NCO's who taught me very well in my young officer days and who got so p.o'd at one young officer (not me), they convinced him to submit an official request to command a whorehouse in the Phillipines. It's a story the three of us still laugh our @$$es off to this day and the young officer got himself taught a very valuable lesson from a very different type of whup@$$ but whup@$$ nonetheless. -
Years ago, I tried explaining the US Constitution to some colleagues from New Zealand. I enjoyed my time working with them, drinking beer; in fact one too many beers on occasion with them (NOTE: Constitution not discussed while drinking beer). They didn't get it. But then, I probably didn't understand a few things about how New Zealand's government works either. The President HAS ALREADY STATED quite plainly he will not seek the advise and consent of the Senate in trying to get a deal with Iran on their nuclear program. Obama seeks an executive agreement. If an agreement is made, that agreement will be in force while Obama is in office simply because Obama can and will enforce it. Once Obama leaves office, the succeeding President and Congress is under NO LEGAL obligation to honor that agreement. The next President and Congress might honor the agreement for political reasons but that is a different matter altogether. Obama will not seek a treaty with Iran simply because he knows he will not get Senate ratification for the treaty under Article 2, Section 2, paragraph 2 of the U.S. Constitution which reads: "He (the President) shall have Power, by and with the Advise and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur..." Once a treaty is ratified, it carries the force of law. That's how we do business here in the US. You live outside the US? Fine, your country has its laws and I would thank you to remember that. You don't like the way we do business here amigo? Tough noogies! Senator Cotton only reminded both the President and the Iranian dirtbags. Yeah, the letter was designed to "stick it" to both sides but that's American politics and like I said, if you don't like it...! Be that as it may, agree or disagree, the United States Senate is not out of bounds on this one.

Whupass ain't necessarily physical. Where oh where did you EVER get tha impression?!?!? I'm shocked! -
OK...so what's your point? intent? Another fatal shooting of an African-American male at the hands of a police officer. Sad and tragic. There will be an investigation and hopefully due process will prevail in rendering whether the cop responsible was justified or unjustified in the action taken. However, if the facts clearly point that the dead suspect engaged the cop to do harm to the cop, the cop was in their right to defend themselves with deadly force. As someone here has already stated, I'll just reinforce the point, you tangle with a cop, you do so at your own peril. Lotta stuff goes down over here. It's a big country with a lot of people. Kinda reminds me of that scene in "Smokey and The Bandit" where the Bandit tells this woman he picks up on the side of the road. "When you tell somebody something, it depends what part of the country (United States) you're standing in...as to just how dumb you are!" And if you're not standing in this part of the country (US), you just might be making it worse. But you are entitled to your opinion which like @$$holes...everybody's got one.

Yea...one of these days, another time, another Ivory Tower, some students (and maybe some faculty too) are gonna do the same stuff and in the process of physically removing the flag just might be engaged by a bunch of ex-GI's taking full advantage of their GI Bill. And remembering some of their wounded and KIA'd buddies from Iraq, Afghanistan and places in between, are gonna unleash on big can of whupass on em.' -

Very true. But when both sides of the aisles of the US House and Senate look the other way because one side has political contributors who need the cheap labor and the other side who sees a bonanza of votes then a pox be on both of them. -
It's NOT nuclear experts you want...it's nuclear inspectors and a rigid...VERY VERY RIGID chain of custody to account for ALL of the nuclear fuel i.e. uranium to be used for power generation then the waste taken elsewhere. The Iranians should never be able to handle any fissile material.
