Paris Hilton Talking Skydiving on Craig Ferguson!
happythoughts replied to Gato's topic in The Bonfire
Not a problem. I foresee a lot of mumbling anyway. -
- People who think that being stupid is "cute". - People who are way beyond "cute" age, but insist on it. Like the 35yo woman who cannot run the cash register at the thrift shop. There are 4 people in line and she actually giggles about how confused she is. She calls her manager to straighten it out. Now there are 12 people in line. - People who tell intimately personal items about their previous weekend at a volume so that non-interested people can also hear. "I was so drunk and woke up on the floor next to this hot guy..."
-
No i-dear. Started jumping in 94. It was mostly squares when I started.
-
I believe that she could support me in the style to which I have become accustomed. With a little patience, I am sure she could learn to pack my 170 for excellent openings. Her public persona has always been the one of the sloppy, uncontrolled drunk who embarrasses everyone around her. So, she'd be fun at the dz, but not to go to Chilis with. (I get in enough trouble with the help of current friends.) ...maybe to the Crystal if she'd buy.
-
Excellent point. A lot of people in the sport community were jumping surplus military gear.
-
The shareholders money has been sucked dry. Now they are going to rob the taxpayers.
-
Tandems have made skydiving more accessible, and skydiving is more familiar to the general public today than then. Considering that, sit down with 10 non-skydiving friends and ask them if they would jump out of an airplane without any prior training or familiarity with gear. How many "Yes" votes? - This points to some experience, however little. Cooper picked the non-sport gear. You go with what you know. - Points to familiarity with military gear. The era of the 70s. - VN era military is discharging people. - 40yo estimated age. A 20-year career vet is 38.
-
McCoy was a VN vet and skydiver, so it's not a bad profile. Part of the appeal of Christiansen and Gossett as suspects is that they both have parachute experience. The armed services reduced their number by quite a bit at this time. Example - the 6th SFG was deactivated in 1971. There were probably some career people at Fort Lewis that left the military about that time. People with the skills and knowledge of the area. Someone with 20 years in the military, no savings, and on their way out... It would check a lot of boxes.

That makes perfect sense, but it is valueless when looking at the problem. When looking at the murder rate in Chicago, the FBI stated that the source of the problem is gangs. The FBI is in the business of criminal activity. The teenage gang members who are doing the shooting are not buying them legally. The Chicago gun ban is valueless. Even Nancy Pelosi carries a gun in her purse. She doesn't believe her own hype, she merely adopts a posture that looks good in the media.

She may be doing it for the fun, or just the fashion. Late night tv is always exposure for a new project. Being able to get on tv and say she was cool. If she was doing it for a show, people would know. I am sure there would have to be some photo releases, etc signed by the dz. Stopping the lawsuits in advance. I watched two of her shows. She had the faux-smile going on. When the people weren't around, she talked about them as ignorant rubes. She made fun of people who treated her well. Oddly, she doesn't have one-tenth of the character or abilities of the people she makes fun of. Her main attraction is the lifestyle. She doesn't work, yet is rich. She has spoiled, petulant demeanor of a 14yo with no boundaries. I met a bunch of the MTV "people" once. They acted the same way. The film crew wouldn't talk to them unless they had to. "Hey baby! Sit on my lap and I'll put you in the next episode." Being famous, for doing relatively nothing, must make you a nitwit, but they don't need to be buttheads. -
Hillary - She's Been Asked And She Said YES ..
happythoughts replied to christelsabine's topic in Speakers Corner
This is an easy problem to solve for Hillary. In Obamas voting record, he followed the party line 98% of the time. (That is probably true for most legislators. You support the process that elects you). All Hillary has to do is to mold the consensus of party goals. Obama will follow it accordingly. (My wife used to navigate while I drove.) Bill Clinton makes too much money now. Why would he bother? -
Ah yes... the infamous SCR TopDock technique. Float gently down to 4ft above the formation, turn sideways, reach down, and backpack at least two others. It was always good on the re-build 400ft lower too.

She had the "Simple Life" tv show where she would travel around and work/live different places. In all the shows, normal people were treating her well and, in return, she would stab them in the back in some fashion. People want to get their 15 seconds of fame, but if a skydiver is involved, she will make them look like idiots. Responsible tv shows won't give you that much time on camera, maybe just a few moments, but they don't need the bad press that comes with being dishonest. -

Would that be a result of her skinny-ass frame, or because of labial drag? wing suit? I don't need no stinkin' wingsuit!! That has to be the funniest two lines that I've read in a year. However, you do realize that you are talking about my future ex-wife? -

Because it is not true. The FBI has shown, again and again, that the violence is caused by criminal gangs. The FBI solution in Los Angeles was to reduce gangs. The old "prosecuting criminals and putting them in jail" tactic. Has Diane Feinstein given up carrying a gun in her purse? The rise in youth deaths in Chicago is blamed by police on criminal youth gangs. Gang killings of youth in Chicago were out of control during the beginning of the 2008. The gun laws didn't change, the criminals did.

Hillary - She's Been Asked And She Said YES ..

Mondays political cartoon by Pat Oliphant. The supreme touch is the red-nosed rider in the back seat. (I guess that he doesn't get to drive anywhere) -
I don't think that CEO compensation is limited to salary. That is just window dressing. So, Ford is doing what it should have been doing 8 years ago? Two questions that no one ever successfully answers: 1- If all these things are such good ideas, why didn't they know about them? 2- If they knew about them, why weren't they doing them? (Like the successful competition) If they didn't understand what needed to be done, then they are incompetent because their competition did. Fire them. If they knew, but didn't do anything, then they are poor managers. Fire them. They have pissed away billions in shareholders money and now they want to do the same with taxpayers money. Instead, how about a shareholders lawsuit against them personally? How about demanding a 10-year management plan? The biggest idiocy is that they didn't even have to come up with a new thought. Just look at Yahoo News and see what Toyota is planning for next year.

...been here before. Is this a new and different tie? Are you talking about literature? I have no idea what tie we're talking about or whether anything makes sense. In another thread, a poster said "I just drink and type until I slump over the keyboard. Then I wake up the next morning and see what I've posted". I can identify with that! I just thought that there are two choices. One, people can re-read the 429 previous discussions of the tie and observe the exact same information 3 times. Two, re-type them. So, since this is the same tie that was discussed earlier this year (March, when we repeated the Nov '07 posts), I was suggesting that people use the search feature. It is a time-saver. People do not need to search the internet and post their "new discoveries" again. Same goes for the clasp.

I am done, tired, expired. Van Break Teammates from Ga, NC, and SC were arriving on Wednesday. We spent the evening strategizing. Thurs - 10-way speed. Plus, the Muff Brothers co-sponsored a discount with Janine on dinner if you wore any MB t-shirt that day. Fri - 8-way sequential. Sat - 16-way sequential. That evening... many teams for drunken dodgeball, inflatable arena stuff, and a band. Fortunately, it was overcast today, so I got some rest. Thanks to TK and his minions for providing a superb event.

Gear check may have saved my life..
happythoughts replied to mitsuman's topic in Safety and Training
Here is what I recommend to everyone - visual checks. Don't start touching stuff without permission. Look at everyone within sight on the plane. Look at their chest strap routing and handles. If a cutaway handle is tucked under the webbing, it will not be accessible when needed. If it is happening this time, it may be happening other times when you are not around and they need to know it. A long time ago, I did gear checks on the ground for everyone in my 10-way group before boarding. Nobody checked me and I almost died. Keep an eye out for your friends. Skydiving is serious stuff. One day you will help someone else, then post that too. Glad you are ok.
