  1. He told me all about it. I am about to run out and do stuff. I'll post it here later. Either later tonight or tomorrow. A different thread isn't necessary. My dad never talked about the war until one day when I told him about my first skydive and he said, "I did one too..."
  2. At WFFC a few years ago, I was renting a fairly new trailer. However, there is little slide at the bottom of the toilet that goes back and forth when you press the pedal. It stuck. So, the tank filled with water, which backed up out of the toilet and ran into the most convenient hole in the floor, the vent. We solved the immediate problem, but there was probably a nice coating of "stuff" in the vents after it dried. I'd hate to be the first person to run the heater.
  3. From his MySpace profile: Goes by the nickname of "Lucky". Hobbies include sailing, singing. Favorite drink -rum. Very social - likes to meet new people. Currently working in the Gulf of Aden as a "maritime security consultant".
  4. Al Capone once said that he paid more money to the Chicago police force than the city of Chicago. However, no one was arresting the police or any of the corrupt officials. So, I don't think it is fair to assume that the officials are not corrupt. city of gangs Chicago's crime problem back in the news: ***CHICAGO (AP) - The head of the nation's second-largest police department says he is establishing a new unit to deal with gang slayings, which he blames for a murder rate that eclipses that of New York and Los Angeles. Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis told aldermen Friday that he was setting up the Mobile Strike Force to attack the city's gangs. The unit will be comprised of roughly 150 veteran officers divided into about a dozen teams and will "disrupt gang crimes through physical arrests, search warrants and gun seizures," Weis said. He said there were 75 identified gangs in the city and 75,000 gang members. "The gang culture continues to be the driving force behind the vast majority of violence, with more than half the murders committed by gangs," he said. Aldermen expressed concern about the rising murder rate, pointing to a published report that Chicago had 426 slayings as of Tuesday, compared to 417 for New York and 302 for Los Angeles. The Chicago Police Superintendent says that the murder rate is caused by criminals in gangs. (Not that it isn't obvious to everyone else.) That was always Al Capones rule. He said, when you meet another gang. He'll have a knife, so you carry a gun. You go to the doc for stitches, he goes to the morgue.
  5. I have my dads certificate from May 3rd, 1943. Issued by Switlik. Harold L. Foster, President Richard Switlik, Secretary Everyone got out over North Africa at night, in a mountainous area. The co-pilot got linestretch, swung once and hit, breaking his leg.
  6. Two blonde girls were working for the city public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind her and fill the hole in. They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one girl digging a hole, the other girl filling it in again. An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger, 'I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting in to your work, but I don't get it -- why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?' The hole digger wiped her brow and sighed, 'Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-person team. But today the girl who plants the trees called in sick.'
  7. There is one that I see all the time - a dolphin. A lot of scuba divers have it as a charm or necklace. Occasionally as a tattoo.
  8. They work a lot of hours, but get plenty of tips.
  9. Number 4 looks like either Jo's avatar, or Henry Kissinger.
  10. Nah, I just get off on tangents. Isn't it odd that Dropzone.com is flagged as a misspelling on this site? I am home alone, working on my computer projects, back and forth. This is break time. By myself, I stay out of trouble. I have some instigators that lead me into temptation when necessary.
  11. There is a YouTube link that involves Cronkite. It shows the rest of the passengers getting off the plane. There are 3 male passengers wearing suits, with skinny black ties, and hats. It seemed to me that any one of those men matched the DBC attire on that day. Realistically, I could walk into any hotel today, in Tampa, and show the sketch to a desk clerk. I guarantee that each clerk would remember at least one guest who fit the physical description. For that matter, at one point, I was 40 years old, about 5'11" and 180 lbs, an engineer, and a skydiver. (But not in 1971) So, if the desk clerk exists, or not, he probably remembered 12 people that next day. Value? If 30 years ago, the FBI had put a warm body in a lineup, then it would be worth something.
  12. "Fallrate" gets flagged by the Spell-Checker. I think that it is really a word. I use it a lot, so I added it to my personal dictionary. "Levelidity" gets a lot of use with flatflyers. (Maybe I did misspell "flatflyers", but "flatbed" is its only suggestion, so I'm sticking with my version.) Anyway, if people can't match the fallrate, then they have Levelidity problems. As Jerry always says, "If you don't want to go low, stay above the formation". And, of all things, why is "dropzone" flagged? (The suggested replacement is "dwarves". Go figure.) It seems like that word would be ok, considering... It says that "Happythoughts" can be replaced by "Hypothesizer" (I don't make this stuff up). We should all check our Logons and see. I checked "Popsjumper" and it basically told me nothing that I didn't already know. "Popsjumper" just isn't right, but it doesn't have any suggestions.
  13. Arch always said he was 5'9" when he left the plane and 5'8" when he left the hospital. His fallrate increases every time he tells the story, but if you live through that, then small variances are acceptable.
  14. Certainly the pinnacle of ones skydiving career. The perfect headline. Miami Herald "Skydiver with damaged parachute saved by avocados" You know that he's using it too. "Yeah, I'm the guy who was saved by avocados. Extreeeme avocados. It's how I roll, dog." I really wouldn't want to be the paramedics. There are two things in those groves. Really fat rats that eat avocados and the rattlesnakes that love them. Hope he gets better. I just couldn't resist the headline.
  15. The Cooper forum is an engine. You just explained the combustion cycle quite nicely! 377 It only explains the dysfunction. People should be posting any information that may lead in a direction. As a theory, if we printed out all 6,000 posts from this thread and gave it to Galen Cook (or similar), he might find something that we have missed and use his own resources (investigators) to figure this out. Cook (or others) might follow up on leads that are far too shallow to interest the FBI. That is the goal, right? Who cares if he writes a book? Everyone is ok with the FBI solving the case, so why not Cook? If Cook did prove that Duane was DBC, Jo could go on the talk show circuit and such. Hiding any information, or having "secret" people/facts, is counterproductive (and, after a while, doubtful). Besides, what is the point of coming online and posting that you have information, but are not going to disclose it? Easier to just not mention it. What we need is one fact. "Which hand is the candy in?" "That one." "Nope." "The other one." "Nope, fooled you."
  16. Well, except according to him. He appointed Hillary to be SoS after saying that she didn't have any foreign policy experience. Of course, he may just be happy to have her in another country for a while. He should send her to a place with no internet.
  17. I am copying this to a text file so that we don't have to keep re-typing it. Here is the chronological progression. 1- Some general comments about stuff posted previously. People ignore it because it doesn't add new value. 2- A mention of "secret people" doing "secret stuff" and involved in The Conspiracy. People ignore it because it doesn't add new value. (I am naming the 3 new secret people as Huey, Dewey, and Louie - just to keep them straight.) 3- Disjointed raving about everything and an attack on the FBI. This is politely (I don't know why) ignored by the FBI. Other posters then arrive at the point of asking for a more courteous attitude and one actual smidgen of proof. (...and here we are again) I am unsure why the personal attacks on the integrity of Ckret are allowed.
  18. If people like Dave Barry, they should rent "Big Trouble", starring Tim Allen, Rene Russo, Stanley Tucci, Johnny Knoxville, and a large list of others. The humor is great, but some of it is especially funny if you have spent any time in Florida. Miami is a screenwriters dream.
  19. Yes, it's coupled to the chances of you surviving the next time you make a jump.. I'm just a whuffo, so I can say this. But I think that belief that experience directly couples to survival, is just something you guys all believe in, otherwise you wouldn't keep doing it. I'm not sure if you guys keep a database with a consensus "cause" of every injury, that goes back a ways. I'd like to see the data on experience vs injury. My guess is that inexperience doesn't couple as closely as you'd like. Usually it's because the "thing" that gets done doesn't stay static..i.e. as you get more experience, you have to change the "thing" so the buzz stays the same. Maybe I'm generalizing only for some. There's a little bit of the drug addict idea of chasing the same initial high. It takes discipline I guess to not go too far. It's possible the risk gets dialed in so it's constant for an entire career? Dunno. You covered 3 things. One is called Booths Law #2. Bill Booth is a current and historical figure of skydiving. Credits too long to list. So, there is a lot of fatalities among the experienced skydivers who are doing pond swooping and high speed landings. However, even though a high percentage of the fatalities are represented by the experienced skydivers, only a small percentage of experienced skydivers participate in those activities. Second, USPA does an analysis of fatalities in the sport. (Pie chart) It generally points to the same type of division. Experienced people - pushing outside the envelope of their skill. New jumper - making mistakes. Self-inflicted choice vs ignorant mistakes. Third, I haven't seen any evidence to connect DBC to an experience level or motive yet. No evidence has pointed to anything as a motive other than money. There is no evidence of long-term participation in the sport either.
  20. Obamas opinion This part was funny because that is what GM said it was going to do with the money all along. The stupidity is that they haven't done it before now. Senator Dodd isn't that gracious.
  21. Well, I try to interpret "good" for all parties involved. When I'm bad, I'm better.
  22. I have been relatively good this year. I hope you will not take into account the specious assertions of that drunk chick. I feel that the video was blurry and without merit. Innocence until adequate evidence proves guilt, that's fair. I could use a new pet and it should have a sense of humor. My tv is broke too. The picture is shot. Previously, it was just various parts that didn't work. You could adjust the brightness nob all you want when Jerry Springer was on, but nobody got any brighter. Try to be a little forgiving on the naughty/nice review. (Plus, if I could get a little info on the "naughty" girls in my area, it's worth some cookies/milk next to the tree.) Thanks.
  23. Bring your roommate along. At some point, leave the room for a moment. When you come back in, your roommate has her on the floor, tugging at her hair and yelling, "It's a MAN baby." Let her know that you have a sense of humor on the first date.
  24. That movie features one of the legends of trials riding, Malcolm Smith. Amazing. About a year ago, I saw him in an interview about a Baja style race that he was in. He must be in his 70s by now.
  25. pic The pic shown was taken at Skydive America about 9 years ago. It was actually featured on the cover of Parachutist. This pic on their webpage is a scan of the cover pic. edited to add: another pic This pic has mountains in the background. I jump at Zephyrhills and there ain't no hills. I guarantee that there isn't any mountains in Clearwater.
