I still own a frap hat. I usually jump my full face. The function of a helmet is not necessarily to save your life, sometimes it just save cuts and bruises. Incidental contact with floater bars, peoples knees, or people playing bowling for skydivers. I bought a full face when I started doing 4-way a while back. At some point, you get kicked. A frap hat has a little inside pocket to hold my pro-track, but it won't hold a camera. Many people are choosing hard helmets because they want to attach a camera, even the tiny go-pro cameras. Skydiving hard helmets are not legally rated for hard impact in the way that a motorcycle helmet is. It may not save your life in the same fashion, but it certainly may help.

From all the SCR jumps, you and Bigun know how difficult it is to just get 8 people into a round. Rounds have the least structural support and people seem to have the incorrect assumption that they will be the easiest to build. They are always the tough round in 10-way speed.

Things you dont like about skydiving?

I can remember when I met my first freeflyer. He explained it to me and I said, "how do you turn points ?" "you don't. you just freefly. we don't touch anyone" Basically, only 50 people in the world had the talent to touch others safely while headdown. Now there are freefly world records because people wanted to work at perfecting their skills and flying with like-minded people. Many people go to an organizer to improve their skills and challenge themselves. To learn how to do something better. If people don't want to do RW, they shouldn't. Is somebody forcing them ? So why do they cry about others having different goals and expectations ? The rest of the world isn't going to stand still so that the precious snowflake is happy. Anyone can gather like-minded people together and do whatever style of skydive they want. -
Cordoba Mosque = The Conquest of Manhattan
happythoughts replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Additional information, I don't have to generalize. Example - Nidal Malik Hasan (the Ft Hood assassin) worshiped at a mosque led by Anwar al-Awlaki along with three of the supposed September 11, 2001, hijackers. Hasan attended the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia, in 2001 at the same time as Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi. Obviously, if someone knows to travel from Texas to Virginia, there is something going on there. Only the naive would believe that others attending services at that mosque did not hear dangerous rhetoric and teachings. That is exactly my point. Muslims know of those dangerous people. That is tacit support. This isn't some "lone wolf" action once every ten years. It is different people, with months of planning, training, and support. -

So, New Yorkers have almost monthly attacks/attempts. Then, you have people exercising their freedom of speech to say the following down at the mosque, you're just going to have to be a little understanding about the New Yorkers reaction to your new mosque. Free speech destroys a little trust and tolerance. The Muslims need to work on building a little trust through anti-terrorist action. "We can say or do anything we want, but you have to like us." What ? -
The basis of the decision is how stable you will be, with/without a suit, at your skill level. The people who jump in these varieties of clothing are probably more stable at pull time than you are at this point. Talk to the instructors at your dz.

Cordoba Mosque = The Conquest of Manhattan
happythoughts replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Personally, I tire of all religions. They are leaches on society. It has been repeatedly shown that the mosques are the recruitment ground for violence. The Al-Shabbab group in Minnesota recruited 14 kids to be sent to Somalia. The Ft. Dix shooter went to a mosque well known for radicalism. "Perception becomes reality" You hear that everywhere. If Muslims want to be known as the religion of peace, then they need to clean house. Jesus ran the moneychangers out of his house of worship. Not a bad example. If someone teaches war against Americans, they should ban him from teaching in the US. New Yorkers would like to hear someone take a stand with them. -

Agreed. Wars are always about money/power. Do you believe that part of the Muslim-West battles are occurring on US soil, or attempt to be fought on US soil ? Do you believe that their is no recruitment of Americans in the US for these acts ? June 2009 fatal shooting at an Army recruiting station in Arkansas by Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad September 2009 Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, planning to car-bomb a Dallas office tower September 2009 Michael Finton, an American convert to Islam, is charged with attempting to bomb the Paul Findley Federal Building in Springfield, Ill. November 2009 Fort Hood massacre December 2009 arrest of five men from Northern Virginia in Pakistan for terrorism-related activities Christmas Day 2009 would-be underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab Colleen LaRose, aka Jihad Jane, of Pennsylvania and Jamie Paulin-Ramirez of Colorado, charged with various terrorism related-crimes. Betim Kaziu and 12 others were charged in 2009 with supporting the al Qaeda-affiliated al Shabab group Brooklyn residents Wesam el-Hanafi and Sabirhan Hasanoff were indicted on charges of trying to help al Qaeda with modernization efforts. Think New York has a reason to feel uneasy ? May 2009, four men were arrested for plotting to blow up a New York City synagogue and use an anti-aircraft weapon to attack military aircraft in Newburgh, N.Y. September 2009 Najibullah Zazi and two others planned to conduct a suicide attack on Grand Central Station Queens-born Bryant Neal Vinas, aka Ben Yameen al-Kanadeeis, received al Qaeda training in Pakistan and agreed to plan an attack on the Long Island Railroad. May 2010 The Times Square bomber had a 100 lb. fertilizer bomb. The JFK airport fuel tank farm attempt. The Ft Dix attempt to murder soldiers. -
you've got to admit, Bolas looks better in that outfit than most of the women at that bar on sr54. "Ummm... we should leave." "why?" "the bartender is the hottest woman here." "and?" "she looks like a manatee in bib overalls" Gotta drink 'em pretty... I have an alcohol-governor built in. When I reach the level that she becomes pretty, I fall down on the floor and pass out.

I would be good with the "faithful" not treating women in contravention to our laws and traditions. That right there is a host of traditions that fundamentalist muslim groups foist on females here in this country inparticular... and certainly in places in the world where women are held in slavery... both reproductively, figuratively and in reality. I'm not talking about breaking laws. I have been harping about their use of deliberate hate-speech and violence for 3 days. I even proposed two solutions to the problem. I was referring to traditions. They can't break the law here. There are Christians who raise their good little girls to be Barbie-Cheerleader types, and Muslims who object to the objectification of women like that. So, the N.O.W. agrees with the Imams on that one. Hard to draw a line there on the good/bad. I don't think you get to choose for them. Cultural Diversity. The Constitution says they have the freedom to choose their traditions as long as they don't break any laws. Do you have specific examples of the non-law-breaking ones you are objecting to ?

Hmmm... those darned racist Californians are protesting the building of a mosque there.

I think high-maintenance is a big part. I'm not responsible for the happiness of others. "I'm new at the dz and nobody will jump with me." Next time, bring your mom to the dz and she will introduce you to the other kids. Their moms will make them play with you. "The other kids are really serious about getting better at their sport and they aren't nice to me." Then go find other kids who think like you, or talk to your mom and she will make your sister play with you. "I'm wonderful. I really think so. Ok, now you say it." No.

touche. I am only self-involved because I have no g/f and no job. So, I am doing procasturbation. I don't really want to do anything, so I put it off by sitting on the couch watching porn.

The self-involved me-me-me Princess has a name. What is the guy equivalent? Prince doesn't have the same ring. Not quite as spoiled sounding. Like any other part of life, they are in skydiving too.

Princesses. It's a sport. Other people aren't here to make them happy. -
BBQ ? I think they already have their own traditions and don't want yours forced on them. That is what cultural diversity means. DUDE... you do know that there is no ban on roasting all kinds of dead animal parts in the koran right? Barbeque away.... lamb.. goat.... whatever... I am sure many of them are good card carrying members of PETA People Eating Tasty Animals If someone wants to come here COMPLY with the laws of this land... or stay home. Conversely... I expect Americans... even conservatives wishing to take us back to the 18th century, to comply with American laws as well. I'm thinking you omitted the all-day pig roast from your list. What's a bbq without a good bbq pork sandwich? Now that was a stealth avoidance edit... you didn't say "comply with the laws" alone. "I expect them to conform to our laws and OUR traditions.." You wrote "...and OUR traditions". Which of their traditions do you think should be immediately changed because they are offensive to you? no burkas in schools, like the oh-so-cultured French? prayer 5 five times a day? i can see Easter being a difficult topic. These are religious and cultural freedoms. They must be somewhere in the Constitution.

There seems to be certain religious factions that have created their own image problems. Four miles from my house (in the South), there is a Sihk Gurdwaar on the lot next to the Baptist church. It hasn't been a problem. Of course, ask any of the people preaching acceptance if they'd let their kids go on a weekend retreat sponsored by the Catholic church. Honest answer? No. A religious group has been repeatedly been found guilty of criminal action and now people refuse to trust them. Everyone accepts the common sense of that.
-
I have always said that I am not a supporter of any religion. The best hope is that they do not have a destructive impact on society. Muslims, Christians, whatever. All the same. All religions need to do some housecleaning. Muslims get the most attention because of the repeat violence. Other than that, nobody really cares where anyone else worships.

Another similarly redeeming use of lawyers. For decades, the CC has known about, and protected, the abusers of children. When it first came to light, there were claims that something was being done. They were transferring the guilty to protect them. People started suing the CC and they, once again, claimed to want time to implement a solution. (The solution is, of course, to immediately turn them over to the authorities and repudiate their actions. After all, most religions consider child abuse immoral.) The pope makes a few faux apologies and thinks it will fade. Abused people should sue them into non-existence. Sue the mosques that harbor terrorists into closing and Islam will become accepted in the American religious tapestry.
