  1. Lucky likes to use a distasteful term for other groups to offend them with language before his "opinions" do. (Opinions being different than thoughts) Of course, Lucky is in a "group" of one, so any term would would have to be a spin on self-gratification.
  2. Handy stuff. I have used a date as a descending key by using 9's complement. (In case someone wants to see their most recent purchases, instead of stuff 2002.)
  3. There is a karate movie made in 1976 called Fighting Black Kings. It used to be available on VHS, but I doubt it made it to DVD. You can find it on Youtube, but it would be torture because you have to fast forward most of it. It documents a martial arts tournament in Japan that was full contact. No pads or gloves. People wrapped their hands to keep them from breaking. Most of the movie was hype and fairly boring, but the fight scenes were videos of the actual tournament. The kung fu and thai styles got spanked pretty early. The Japanese took some people out in less than 30 seconds. One head shot and down.
  4. Cool but his history and now exposed affiliations do not back that up We will all watch this unfold I do have a question however Did you believe everything Bush said? Actually, I believe that this guy is a true politician. He is a speech-maker and has been paid by past administrations to promote US policy in the ME. So, whatever he is saying, he probably believes. You never use a partially-committed speaker, someone would dig up a past speech on the internet and wreck his value. The actual problem is that he does not speak for everyone. He can say whatever calming statements he wants. He is a politician. While this mosque is a lightning rod for discussion, it isn't the actual issue. People got tired of reading about bombs in Times Square or plans for JFK, or Ft Hood, or fighters going to Somalia. Those people all went to mosques and they aren't all in NY.
  5. For humor, nothing beats watching kung fu movies on the Spanish channel. They have Chinese actors speaking out-of-sync Spanish.
  6. I read all the Ludlum books at one point, but I got to where I couldn't remember which one it was. The plot was always... Jason finds something out, he goes to a foreign country, finds the exactly correct guy, gets information, goes to a foreign country... They kind of got to be like a Rick Steves travel show.
  7. When you are getting the air out of your main, just don't put your head on the mat. ... wouldn't want 20 babies in your hair.
  8. It doesn't matter if people whine about their problems to me. It's my problems that scare me.
  9. Ah, well if that's the way you're looking at it, I say fuck the Saudi way of life. I don't give a toss if it's "their culture" or "their tradition" - it is unjustifiable to impose those restrictions on people who have not chosen them and do not want them. by "people who have not chosen them and do not want them", you are speaking of... the human race? those people? people who want to talk to other human beings without being killed? probably a short list. write them down alphabetically.
  10. Well.... the ones that weren't gassed. You know, ... the ones that say things were much better under S.H. Ya can't make everybody happy. Perhaps they should have drove their darned cars.
  11. absolutely not. it was a loaded statement. no guy could post. women who were afraid of being cast as conceited by others could not reply, because they would misinterpret attractive in a one-dimensional way. only one with a sense of humor. so, i was exactly correct.
  12. the person who posts next will be the most attractive woman in skydiving.
  13. I understand the history of the Taliban. I worked with a Muslim from Pakistan for a year and discussed this at length. College-educated, married, 3 kids. Talib is essentially a word meaning student. If you have read the Asimov Foundation series, it talks about the period following the dissolution of the central govt. He called this period of barbarism and lack of govt, the interregnum. After the Russians left, the Afghan army had no job (and no pay), so they resorted to collecting money from travelers. This could have been an isolated solution. Instead, this emergency step, became the organizational structure. The problem is that it was the context of the 14th century. Hence the problem.
  14. Really? I've seen 200 posts here about, "don't... because it might jeopardize our troops because it will anger the Taliban." They burn American flags in weekly protests. Let's see what would happen if someone in the US burned the Taliban flag. "Oh no... we don't want to upset them..." They are effectively controlling the actions of the American public. In 10 years, women in the US will have to head scarves. Life in the 14th century.
  15. So? You can be ok with it, or not. They aren't open-minded about it at all. The great part is, they aren't going to accept the western view on this Ever. It is apparently, just one of 500 things that angers the Taliban. There will always be a reason which the Taliban will identify as a reason to kill westerners. Each week there is a new angry protest. Your sister doesn't need to burn a Quran to deserve a gruesome death, she just needs to talk to a man who is unrelated to her. If people want to post that they believe that the west can placate these boneheads, they are deluding themselves.
  16. Sure, but things like this are what angers these clerics. Of course, opinions vary. In SA, women are not allowed to drive cars or work as educators beyond the secondary school level. In Iraq, before the war, women could drive cars and be educated at a university level. Two countries separated by only a border, with the same religion, but different in its interpretation and application. So, this a control issue. The Taliban will continue to fight the west because it allows women to function at even the minimal level of adulthood. (...or does anything that the Taliban objects to.)
  17. +1 Jeez. Every post, no matter what the topic, is about his plan to meet women. Everything guides back to that. Can't we just talk about skydiving and the tunnel ?
  18. I once lived next door to a couple of women. One was a confused cute bi girl. She really wanted a relationship with men, but it never seemed to work out for her. Her roommate got very possessive when I was around. She was still searching for a guy though. Tough and independent - until she needed a man to save her from life.
  19. Whether a woman will be impressed by my stories is not a factor in how I make my decisions in life.
  20. Tunnel training is used by every 4-way team that I know. It is definitely a great tool to fine-tune your skills. I wish it was available when I started. I had 1,000 jumps before going to a tunnel for the first time. I felt like a lotto ball for the first 2 minutes. I don't think it is the same as skydiving because there is an element of awareness that is different. In skydiving, there is always a part of your brain that is thinking of your safety.
  21. - Kurt Vonnegut. He believed it was a cultural issue because kids no longer maintained relationships with their parents. (Hard to take the high ground since he moved from Indiana to NH to NY.) He once said that you could become wealthy if you have a solution. Instead, we have faux solutions (websites - Match, Eharmony). They are selling a relationship with one person as the solution. KV wanted people to be in relationships with many people as the solution. Community. So, we get posting about the continual search, or trying to fix an erroring simulation of the movie image. I think the solution is friendship. (been reading this evening. thought i'd share)
