  1. That's my fav joke that I tell my scuba buddies.
  2. The video of a jumper doing his first AFF jump made it to one of those shows. He got on his back and spun. At 11,000 ft, "he is seconds from death". After a fashion, true. Hyped for the tv audience, definitely.
  3. A lot do though, its pretty difficult to breathe water. And any deep dive is pretty risky if you have a gear failure. If you run out of air while skydiving, you can't go back up and get more.
  4. There is no way she is a size 8. That's the wingsuit.
  5. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, but if it's still running and broken, it's never right Wendy P. Kind of... the idea of politics is not to give the true time, but whatever time you want them to believe. In Iran, it is whatever time he says it is. Politics is mostly done by coalition. Not everyone agrees, but the group is in general agreement. So, this would be the analogy of a clock that loses a minute per day. Pretty close on most days, and would probably be adjusted before it was very wrong. (Otherwise it takes 2 years to be exactly right. To be exactly right, politicians would have to agree with me. ) A clock that loses a second a day is only right every 118 years, but pretty close for a while.
  6. First, for many non-jumpers, their only exposure to jumping is the media, or friends doing tandems. The media only mentions death and injuries. However, the second misperception is created by jumpers. There are two parts to this issue. The second is injuries. Jumpers may accurately speak to the death statistics, but they fail to mention the number of injuries that occur.
  7. (vague movie reference...) "I have a special purpose" As flight attendant, if the plane is going down, announce that everyone should put their head between their knees. ... their own knees.
  8. You know the best thing about Cousin Cindy? Her thighs. If you're going to take a date to a bbq, she doesn't have to be a size 6.
  9. A dysfunctional family with an eating disorder? I'm thinking the medications aren't going to handle this.
  10. It was done at WFFC in the late 90s. Three guys exited together with rollerblades on. I'm not going to hunt through which one, but someone will know. It is on the convention video for that year.
  11. If I was a tv show producer, this is definitely how I would disguise trolling for content as a legitimate thread, but... what do I know?
  12. Most people don't understand what that little pin-hole on the other side of the lid is for. It's to relieve the pressure difference between the inside and the outside of the cup. Sometimes they don't get popped out as much as they should. Just reach over and pull the little tab off to let the air pressure equalize better. Today, we are giving instructions on coffee cup technology. A sure sign of the end times. Douglas Adams wrote that there was no hope for society because we printed instructions on the side of a box of toothpicks.
  13. Well, the taxes of people who pay taxes (the non-wealthy) were given to Wall Street millionaires because they it appeared that they would lose money, or not make millions. So, we can all be thankful for the stimulus money, otherwise they might suffer from unemployment and not be wealthy. Of course, when they received their bonuses from the stimulus money, now they have a tax issue. So it is important to give them tax breaks or they would not be able to keep it. 55 of the 400 richest are from the investment sector. What idiot is in charge of giving these people stimulus money and tax breaks ?
  14. I always tell people that marriage counselors use techniques to identify issues and then set a plan for correction. It is easier to look through a photo album. Find the happy pictures. Then, ask what changed ? Can that be fixed ? Either way, make a decision and a plan.
  15. The subtext of this whole thread is this - people who are essentially miserable with their sex life and their relationship will continue to be in that relationship long after it was close to happy. That is a truly sad way to exist. If someone is walking a path and their feet hurt, they stop and examine the situation in minutes. In a far more painful emotional situation, they continue and waste another 5 years of their life. I think that unmarried people throw away less time. The oft-quoted statistic is that 50% of marriages fail (so 50% succeed). We need a better metric for success.
  16. That's what I mean. People try to characterize these shoulder injuries as being out of shape. I think these injuries are part of the change in wind speed on exit and body position. Things like the wind pushing the elbows back behind the shoulders. I think we need a list of "stop that" stuff that will make people aware of what is causing these injuries and get the message out.
  17. Our video was one of the early digital cameras. It would try to adjust for the change in pixels and the picture was changing too fast for the camera to keep up. We had 9 of us together in 19 seconds, but one guy was low about 4 feet and we ended up with 23 seconds.
  18. well, we still don't know how bad she would be in the role. I would imagine even more divisiveness with the minority party in Congress, if it's possible to imagine that. Remember when she was running for office and was at a fundraiser and referred to herself as the "D-Punjab" because of her support from outsourcing groups? Actively running around the world, outsourcing our industries? Wonder where your job went? So, easy to imagine.
  19. Just watched a show called Wrong Door. One of the skits was about superhero interviews. The best scene involved a guy whose power was invisibility. He is with his girlfriend (he wears glasses) and says "kiss me". She leans over and remarks, "You're standing, aren't you".
  20. Why shudder over things that aren't even in the realm of reality. I mean, sure, there are one or two ways that could happen, but I think Turtle would have a better chance at being Pope than Hillary running against Palin. Just way too many insane things would need to happen. It would be easy. The easiest way to silence Goober is if he "decides" not to run as VP again. That would open the VP slot up for the Rottweiller. O has got to be smart enough to measure his lifespan if he got elected with Hillary as his VP though. Sir, a message from the Secret Service, "You're on your own."
  21. Whatever happened to Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and partying ? When did he ever go out of fashion ? Seems like the new ones are illogical, guilt-ridden, and boring. We need a new one for "have fun, use protection, be kind". Driving people to make non-sensical decisions isn't helping the birth rate or the divorce rate.
  22. How about biting the hand that feeds ? Hillary ? (After all, she has traveled time for the good of all.) Secretaries of State don't run against their President for his 2nd term. It should be fairly obvious why. Oh, sure. Logic, political history, and rational thought all dictate that. An incumbent President always get the support of his party, but perhaps not all of it. I understood that when I asked the question. However, Hillary would feed her grandmother to wolves if it gave her a shot at the WH. (Especially since he is taking credit for HillaryCare. It should have been her legacy.)
  23. Option 2 - On bigways, as we go above 15,000, it gets teeth-chattering cold. A long time ago, a person noted that I was sitting back near the tail and offered to give me a blanket. It became "the plane blanket". Once we started getting close to jump run, I just passed it forward and it got tossed against the forward wall. The next year, I put 2 in the trunk. On the plane, 2 others in the back were kidding me about it. "I have another in the trunk, let me know if you want to borrow it when we land." They spoke to me in the landing area. You don't have to put wedge the blanket in the top of the door, you can wrap yourself in it.
