Clouds?? In Ireland we would call that a good day. Did you see all the holes? "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

The above is taken from a post by Tonto in another thread. I have found the fear that plain talking like this can induce to be a real wake up call, it has caused me torealy think about skydiving and if its for me. I jump very little, and the weather here in Ireland dosent help, I have never been what you could call current. I havent jumped now in 7 months but will be jumping in two weeks time, before after a long layoff when I would go back to do a few jumps someone would say "come on a four way" I might say "no I think I will do a solo first" and often get the reply "oh you'll be fine" and off I'd go. Not any more When I go back it will be my 100th jump next and we had planed a four way , but after reading these fourms and thinking about the real results of my posible failure, my 100th jump is now going to be a static line jump. so the point I am making is if the plain truth scares you you like me in the past are guilty of complancy and the "I'll be fine... Lalalalalala" mentality BTY thanks Tonto "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
kevinwhelan replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
I think there is a huge difference in the two backup devices being discussed here. A reserve allowes a skydiver a second attempt to do something, get a landable parachute over his/her head. This is after the skydiver has done what they should do, but for whatever reason need to try again. An AAD is not of the same type it only comes into play when the skydiver has failed to do what they should do. Derek is saying , I think, that if you will take a greater risk because you reason that in the unlikely event that you can't handle the situation you find yourself in the AAD will handle it for you that you should rethink your judgment. A reserve wont do anything for you you must deploy it, it would be fairer to compare an AAD with an RSL just my reading of the thread "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing -
They shouldn't let this fucker even wear the uniform...

This bit dose Prosecutors say Akbar told investigators he launched the attack because he was concerned U.S. troops would kill fellow Muslims in Iraq. They said he coolly carried out the attack to achieve "maximum carnage" on his comrades in the 101st Airborne Division "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing -
And strike two.... if I have a motor sitting under my ass go south, I want it hooked to the least available amperage possible.... Dosen't matter its only 12 volts unless youv got a supersensitive ass also a small charger only puts out 4 amps "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

***------------------------------------------------------------------------Too high an amperage, for one.... if he was only going to use it for short periods, it *MIGHT* work...for a while... No the motors will only draw what amps they need "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

Anyone know about this "Dropzone" ? No one here in Ireland has heard of them and they Claim to have the only two turbines in the country http://www.pearsecom.com/fiorspeartha/index.html edited cos I'm Thick "be honest with yourself. Seems he has done it from http://www.flyozone.com/pgframe.htm 23/3/2005 :: Jimmy Hall Goes Para-diving As far as we know, Jimmy is the first person to ever jump a normal, production paraglider out of an airplane and then freefall before opening. Jimmy has been jumping from altitudes of up to 12,500 feet at his home dropzone in Hawaii with his Vulcan DHV 2. It took a lot of research and a lot of courage, but after working with the rigger at his local dropzone, Jimmy designed a special deployment bag, slider, and pilot chute system to deploy his glider from freefall. These photos are from just a few days ago when Jimmy jumped from an airplane at 12,000' at 90mph. Nice work Jimmy! "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

But that means that the pouch would be "cutaway" each time you deploy*** Just thinking as we go along here, but rerigging would only consist of inserting the cable/cables into loops to hold one side of the pouch to the container. To my mind this is no more complex than cocking a pc. But I also know that every extra step in a pack job is another point at which you can screw up "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
-
The reason there are only 3 handles is to make things less complicated*** I dont mean to add handles i mean that the bag leaving the container would pull these cables "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
-
Would your system work if the cables jammed because of poor maintenance or improper assembly? well this is true of most parts of a rig "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

I was reading some old posts about horseshoe mals and they scare me. I was wondering if there is any system that splits the pouch when the bag leaves the tray. maybe with "cutaway like' cables. this would prevent the pilot chute staying in the pouch after the bag has left the tray and so prevent this type of horseshoe what would the disadvantages of this "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

*** This is contained in my wingloading proposal. A canopy coach can 'sign you off' for given loadings; that way an S+TA at another DZ can check your logbook and see if you are competent to jump that gear. This is very like the Irish System. Our PAI licence also contain a canopy certification this is rated class 1 to class 4 and must be stamped and signed off Class 1 is 0.75 to 1.0 lbs/ft and "reasonable performance" Class 2 is 1.0 to 1.25 lbs/ft with high performance and quick responses aprox 150 jumps class 3 is 1.25 to1.75 lbs/ft minimum 400 jumps with 100 jumps on class 2 canopies Class 4 is 1.75lb/ft and above 750 jumps with substantial skills in class 3 I know these requirements are a bit vague and would need to be formalised to work where you have a lot of jumpers, but here in ireland the instructors know everyone on the dropzone. I have seen guys turn up with a new canopy only to be told by the CCI that "unless you show me you rateing you're not jumping that" may have saved them "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

*** If I read your post right you are thinking that the reserve will help stop your forward motion by adding drag and slowing your arcing speed that the swoop produced. Well wondering would it not having any experience of high preformance landings i dont understand the speeds or times involved (I fly a PD190 loaded at about 0.8) I just wondered would the forward speed extract and inflate the reserve in time to slow the swoop "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
-
I have been reading a lot of discussions about swoops and hook turns and was just wondering what would happen if, (and dont laugh) suppose you have made a hard hook turn to set up for a swoop and you find you are too low and will hit hard with bad results. What would happen if you dropped your toggels and popped the reserve with no cutaway? Would your forward speed open the reserve and help or would it make a bad situation worse? btw I have not or ever intend to try a swoop let alone this Idea, just wondering "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

*** The other story was a guy who got the PC under his arm on his first jump (SL). Can you explain this? I did static line and we had no pc just the bag pulled out by the line.
